Guided by the Head Maid, Nora headed deep into the royal castle and arrived in front of a beautifully decorated white door.

I’ve seen this door before.

Just as that thought crossed her mind, the Head Maid opened the door and a lady was waiting inside as expected. Wearing a crimson dress and with her tangerine hair and chartreuse eyes, she was like the incarnation of beauty.

She had met her once, when Nora was poisoned and slept after vomiting. As such, this was the first time she’d taken a closer look at her.

For a while, Nora was fascinated by how elegant she carried herself in her dress, but then she noticed that Andrea’s brows were slightly furrowed.

“Why haven’t you come to me?”

“Lady Andrea?”

“And why were you singing in the backyard?” That’s when Nora realized why Andrea looked quite sullen.

Was she mad at the fact that Nora came to work at Thorvard’s recommendation?

“My apologies for not giving my formal greetings to you sooner, my lady. And I’ll be careful not to sing in the future.” Nora immediately bowed her head in apology, but Andrea looked even more morose.

“That’s not it. I also wanted to hear it.”

“Pardon?” Just as she asked, Andrea got up from her chair.

“Do you hate me? Are you angry because His Majesty forced you?”

“I’m sorry?”

Andrea approached Nora and wrapped her hands around hers.

“I mean, you didn’t come to me at all. I was surprised when Elias informed me that you have been working at the royal castle all this time, you know? I’ve actually been looking forward to it. You even sang to the servants but you won’t come see me at all…”

Seeing Andrea’s wistful expression as if she was about to cry, Nora felt taken aback and after thinking about it, she felt that something wasn’t quite right.

“Um, I’m just working in the royal castle. I thought it’d be disrespectful of me to approach Lady Andrea for no reason.”

Staying by Andrea’s side was a prestigious position that would only be possible if one could handle all sorts of chores. It would be rather strange for a newcomer like Nora to come to her directly, even if they were acquainted.

However, Andrea tilted her head while still holding Nora’s hand.

“What do you mean by that?”

“What I’m trying to say is, as long as you’re hired as a servant, you can’t break that rule.”

“But aren’t you supposed to keep me company?”

“Huh?” With her hands still held by Andrea, Nora stared at her and the two simultaneously turned their eyes to the Head Maid.

“It seems like His Majesty had wanted to invite her as Lady Andrea’s companion, but since she requested to work, she entered the castle as an apprentice worker. Only after mastering the basics was she supposed to come to Lady Andrea.”

Nora and Andrea both blinked blankly at the Head Maid’s explanation.

“Is that so? I thought I was supposed to work just like the others.”

“I thought you were going to be just my companion.”

“In the first place, Miss Nora was supposed to be taught how to clean the room and how to brew tea. I thought she was having a difficult time because she hadn’t come to Lady Andrea’s room, but from what I can infer from the rumors around the castle… that doesn’t seem to be the case.”

The Head Maid let out a small sigh as she prepared the tea with dexterity.

What an impressive skill to be so quick yet elegant at the same time.

“Still, I thought she had been informed that she could come to Lady Andrea’s room whenever she wanted.”

“Come to think of it, I was asked if I had wanted to meet Lady Andrea.”

“Then why didn’t you?” Andrea grumbled while shaking Nora’s hand, but she only felt troubled when she was informed of that.

“But I had just started working. I thought it would be better to master everything so as not to inconvenience you, Lady Andrea.”

“Master everything… What do you mean by that?”

As the daughter of a marquis, it would not be an exaggeration to say that she was oblivious to the world of working servants.

Seeing her quaint interest, Nora smiled. “Well, things like carrying, peeling, preparing, washing, cleaning, weeding, painting window frames, making flower beds…”

“Nora, I don’t think someone who wants to emulate how the nobility act and behave should do those kinds of work…”

The Head Maid, who received the ire of Andrea’s gaze, looked at Nora with a grim expression.

“Is that so? I thought I would be able to understand a lot of things after experiencing all sorts of work.”

Andrea, who was still holding Nora’s hand, looked at the Head Maid and sighed.

“It seems like there was a miscommunication and things weren’t explained clearly. Miss Nora, you’re supposed to be Lady Andrea’s companion. There is no need for you to work that hard.” The Head Maid explained. Hearing that, Nora was a little surprised.

“But… What about my wages?”

Of course, it would be great to learn Andrea’s behavior closely, but she wouldn’t get paid if she didn’t work properly. After all, she needed money to buy her gift for Elias.

In contrast to Nora who was freaking out, the Head Maid calmly placed the teacup on the table.

“It has been prepared accordingly.”

“But… we’ll just be talking?”

Seeing the Head Maid nod, Nora shook her head hurriedly.

“Oh no, that’s unacceptable. I should earn my keep.”

“Why? You’ll just be my companion, wouldn’t that be easier?”

Nora gently removed her hand from Andrea’s grasp and smiled at the lady who seemed displeased.

“I understand the value of money firsthand. And I’m most definitely not the kind of person who can offer conversations and get paid solely for that.”

“Oh dear, what is this? I can’t tell if you’re too serious or just stubborn. I suppose you’re similar to Elias in that respect.”

Hearing her words, Nora blinked in surprise.

“Really?”

“Definitely.” Andrea smiled, gracefully sat down on her chair and sipped her tea.

“Your servant duties are over. Please come to me from now on. And you can sing if you want, but I’d like to hear it too.”

The last bit sounded like the grumble of a spoiled child, which made Nora chuckle unintentionally.
