“That’s funny. What does he mean by that? The old Allan would never say that.”

“It means that my feelings weren’t conveyed to Elias at all.”

Nora didn’t know exactly how he felt, but she reckoned Allan actually liked Elias. In Allan’s eyes, it seemed like Nora didn’t treat Elias quite well. If so, it was highly likely that Elias also felt the same way and wasn’t fully aware of her feelings for him.

“It wasn’t like I didn’t try, but his face was just too charming that I felt… Anyway, it was just too tough.”

“Tough? But don’t you like Elias?”

Nora let out a small sigh as she picked up the sheet music for the song she’s performing for the day.

“A while back, Allan had told me he ‘liked’ me as some sort of a test. After which, I started suspecting that Elias had a disreputable relationship with Lady Andrea, which I thought was even officially recognized by His Majesty. It was those two events that helped me realize my feelings.”

After hearing Nora’s words, Flora dropped the sheet music she was holding and they scattered across the floor.

“What? What’s that supposed to mean?”

“Which one are you asking?”

“B-both.” Flora looked visibly upset, but she started picking up the scattered pieces of her sheet music along with Nora’s help.

“You thought that he might be in a disreputable relationship with His Majesty’s childhood friend, Lady Andrea, who’s also a queen candidate? That’s shocking.”

“Indeed it was shocking. In many ways. But it turned out to be a misunderstanding.”

Of course, moral ethics was at play. But thankfully, it was just a misunderstanding.

“And the thing with Allan… I didn’t really understand it at first, but he told me to ‘give it a try’. Then he whispered in my ear, ‘I like you, Nora.’ And told me to compare it to when Elias did the same.”

“That’s also shocking.”

“It really was. I was immensely surprised. But I realized I felt different even though they had the same face and voice.”

“Your reaction is also surprising.” Flora seemed dumbfounded or even slightly taken aback, but it was true and it already happened so there was nothing Nora could do about it. After taking a sip of water, Flora let out a deep sigh.

“You just weren’t as obvious as Elias’, but there’s nothing wrong with that. Besides, you already accepted him even after turning him down several times, so I’m sure he knows how you really feel. And he must also know that you’re not the type to be affectionate in public.”

The type to be affectionate in public… I’m certainly not that type. I’ve never done it nor could I ever do it.

“That’s true, but…”

“You want to properly convey your feelings, right?” Flora smiled as Nora nodded pensively.

“That’s right. You know me well.”

“If you do that, Elias would probably be in a jolly good mood for ten days or so.”

I think that’s a bit of an exaggeration, but I can somehow understand why he would be happy if I confessed my feelings. I subliminally knew that and did try saying it, but he was just too captivating that in the end I couldn’t do it.

“In the meantime, I’ve decided to work part-time at the royal castle. I’m still not quite certain if I’ll be in charge of Lady Andrea’s personal effects or I’ll be working as her assistant. In any case, I’d be able to study the etiquette of the nobility while earning money on the side so I’m extremely thankful for the opportunity.”

“What? Weren’t you already out of debt and that’s why you quit all your other part-time jobs except this one? Why do you need to work there?”

“Yes, we’re out of debt now, but I don’t have extra money either.”

She didn’t mind living humbly, so she took the part-time job as suggested by her family. But she didn’t have extra money after all.

Flora seemed to have realized something and grinned. “So what will you do with the money you’ll earn from that part-time job?”

“I’ve always been on the receiving end, so I wanted to give something back.”

“A gift?”

“Precisely.”

Flora had already guessed to whom it would be given, so she just shrugged her shoulders with a sigh.

“If Elias heard that, he’d probably be over the moon for a month or so.”

That’s another exaggeration, but I must admit I can’t rule out the possibility.

“So what are you going to give him?”

“That’s the problem. I have no idea. Considering who he is, he probably already has everything.”

Coming from the prestigious House of Marquis, he surely couldn’t have any financial difficulties. Moreover, everything he had was probably of the highest quality. Nora wasn’t sure what to give since she was bound by her limited finances. However, Flora didn’t seem to share her dilemma.

“As long as it’s from you, I’m sure he’ll be happy even if it’s trash.”

“Is he that much of a freak?”

“Pretty much. He’s a well-mannered, dashing, ravenous freak. Someone you don’t want to make an enemy of.”

I think that’s a pretty terrible assessment, but sadly, I can’t refute it.

“I wonder what’s good to give…”

“Oh! I’ve got just the idea. And today’s even perfect.” Flora laughed mischievously before drinking a glass of water.
