“Why do you want to work? Are you in debt again?” Elias asked Nora as they were on the way home from her part-time job. He wondered how much debt the Kranz family was in, but accepted the fact nonetheless.

“Thanks to you, we’re out of debt, but I still need money because we’ve only breakeven.”

She had been juggling different part-time jobs, so working at the royal castle wouldn’t make much of a difference to her.

“What’s that about learning to act like a lady?”

“I wasn’t educated properly. My parents have taught me but only the bare minimum. As it is, I’m afraid I’d just be a nuisance.” Nora simply wanted to be at least an inkling of what aristocratic ladies ought to be. She knew her aspirations were low, but her status was far lower in reality, which was sadly something she couldn’t change.

“Nuisance to whom?” As he asked her curiously, Nora let out a sigh.

“I thought being with me would smear your excellent reputation.”

Elias then placed his hand over his mouth, looking as though he was pondering over it.

Does he also think that way? Perhaps he never realized it before but now considers it true.

“What’s the matter?”

“Nothing. You shouldn’t worry about my reputation whatsoever. I wanted to be with you. Don’t mind the others.”

If he had said, “Indeed, my reputation has gone down,” and dumped her right then and there, then she would gladly accept it. After all, his captivating charm was enough to mesmerize her into believing whatever he says was right, regardless of his good-hearted nature.

What a frightening thought.

“But…”

“But?” Nora tilted her head in surprise just as Elias pulled back the hand from his mouth.

“Does that mean you’re going to continue being with me? If so, I’m incredibly happy.”

“Huh? Um, well…”

That might be the case, but Nora was dumbfounded, not expecting the conversation to turn that way.

“Knowing that you want to stay with me, you have no idea how happy that makes me.” He flashed her a dazzling smile and she averted her eyes, feeling embarrassed. She’s gotten fairly used to it, but his face at a close distance was too much to bear.

Then she felt something soft touch her cheeks, before she even noticed that something had approached her. She realized she had been kissed and turned to face Elias, who consequently held her in his arms.

“I love you, Nora.” He said as he stroked Nora’s head. She felt overwhelmingly embarrassed but at the same time was relieved that no one was watching them at night.

“I love you.” Elias expressed his feelings to Nora every so often. However, Nora hasn’t quite fully conveyed her feelings to him.

Her feelings weren’t as deep as Elias, but she did like him to a certain extent. Even though it wasn’t really the case, she wanted them to be on equal footing, so to speak.

I must tell him properly.

“So, um…”

“Yes? What is it, Nora?”

When she raised her head, Elias’ face was so close that Nora could see reflection in his sky blue eyes. They were glistening and staring straight at her.

—There’s no way I can say it. There’s absolutely no way I can say it.

Nora felt overpowered by his resplendence. She felt defeated and bowed her head down, but Elias stroked her head and gently wrapped his arms around her.

“What is it?”

“…It’s nothing.”

“You sure?”

Oddly enough, Elias was happily smiling.

If I get used to it, will I be able to stay calm whenever I see that face?

But that would mean she’d get tired of his face… and that seemed like a distant reality.

“Welcome home, sister.” Upon arriving home, her younger brother Perre greeted her. She had heard that his black hair, grass-colored eyes and well-proportioned face that resembled their mother were popular with the ladies.

Nora didn’t think she was hideously ugly. But there was a standard of beauty in the world. If Elias was the breathtakingly regal type of beauty, then Perre was the friendly and gentle type.

Either way, they looked way better than any average lady, and she couldn’t help but laugh at the sad fact.

As Nora stared at Perre with her thoughts flying elsewhere, the latter blinked incredulously at her.

“Is there anything on my face?”

“You have well-proportioned eyes, nose and mouth.”

“…Did anything happen?”

She couldn’t say that she was mesmerized by her lover’s face and it muddled her thoughts.

“Well, I’m going to start working part-time at the royal castle.”

“Working part-time at the royal castle? What do you mean?”

As she elaborated on it, Perre’s face was riddled with suspicion and his expression remained dark for some reason.

“In addition to servants, other aristocrats and knights also wander around the castle. I’m a little worried.”

“I’m sure no one actually poisons newcomers.” Nora figured that he might be worried because of what happened with Duke Lindell but Perre shook his head a little.

“That’s not what I mean. I’m worried that strange insects would stick around you.”

“By insects, you mean men, right? Don’t worry, I’ll be fine.”

If she had Perre’s face, then she might encounter trouble if she walked around leisurely. But there shouldn’t be a problem because she’s nothing but ordinary. She was certain that she could easily blend in with commoners.

Perre, however, let out a sigh. “You don’t understand at all. The power of your singing voice is incredible, you know?”

“Who said anything about singing? I’m going to work there, not sing.”

In the first place, people had varying tastes in music, so not everyone actually liked Nora and her songs. And even if they liked the songs she sang, that wouldn’t have anything to do with her, would it?

But Perre didn’t mask the dissatisfaction in his face. “In any case, you can’t be alone with a man.”

“No need to worry yourself too much. It’s just a normal part-time job.” Nora sighed a little, wondering why her younger brother was unnecessarily worrying.
