Chapter 40: Who Am I To You! Tell Me Again After You Think It Through

Huo Weiwu stopped tapping her foot and gazed inquisitively at Gu Haoting.

“This card is linked to an account holding one billion yuan. If you’re bored, instead of doing something that will make me angry, you can ask Auntie Long to go shopping with you,” Gu Haoting told her.

“What do you mean by doing something that will make you angry?” asked Huo Weiwu with a mischievous smile.

He put both hands on the armrests of her chair and leaned forward.

His warm breath fanned across her as his eyes grew fiercer.

“You’re so intelligent, so surely you must know what I’m referring to?” asked Gu Haoting. His gaze was locked on her.

Huo Weiwu lowered her eyes as she lightly drummed her fingers on the credit card.

Based on what she knew, a woman would lose respect the moment she used her man’s money. The power dynamics would shift in the man’s favor, making the woman inferior.

If she used this card, she would lose the ability to live as she wished—she would face restriction in most matters and be forced to avoid doing things that would make him angry.

There was a strange look in Huo Weiwu’s eyes.

She would do whatever she wanted and lived however she preferred—she had always prioritized her freedom.

Huo Weiwu grabbed the credit card on the table and handed it to Gu Haoting. “I appreciate the thought, sir, but I can earn my own money. Thank you.”

Gu Haoting’s face darkened and his eyes narrowed. “Just do as I say! Why are you being so calculating? Moreover, don’t you know how you should address me? Is ‘Sir’ really what you should be calling me?”

“I don’t want to fight with you so early in the morning,” Huo Weiwu said as she slammed the card on the table.

Gu Haoting casually swept his hand across the table, sending the card and dishes crashing to the floor. The sound of shattering dining ware and breaking glass was crisp and clear.

“Nobody wants to fight with you.” He turned around and took two steps away from the table. With his back still facing her, he said in a deep voice, “Call me if anything comes up.”

With that, he strolled to the main door.

Auntie Long hurriedly opened the door and stood aside respectfully.

It was only then that Huo Weiwu realized that Lieutenant Shang had been standing outside the door.

After Auntie Long shut the door, she said meaningfully to Huo Weiwu, “Madam, you shouldn’t get angry at Master. He waited for you for close to two hours—Lieutenant Shang and the rest have been standing outside all this time as well.”

“Why did he wait for me!” Huo Weiwu glanced at the food splattered on the floor and asked furiously, “Did he want to lecture me? Or threaten me? Or did he just want to scare me?”

Auntie Long seemed to be growing slightly upset. “Master is really good to you, Madam. I’ve never seen Master so patient. Madam, I think that you should reflect on your own temper—just watching you makes me angry.”

“Angry?” Huo Weiwu snorted. She stood up and stared coldly at Auntie Long. “You’re on Gu Haoting’s side, so I don’t blame you for considering things from his perspective. However, you still don’t have the right to criticize me.”

“I’m not trying to criticize you, Madam. I just think that Master gave you his credit card out of goodwill, so it was unnecessary for you to anger him,” said Auntie Long with her head bowed.

“Is it wrong for me to want to depend on myself? Is it such a sin to reject his credit card? I really don’t understand the way that high-and-mighty people like you think—you think that rejection is equivalent to rebellion, then you immediately resort to intimidation at the thought of me being out of control!”

“I don’t need to be controlled! We have such different ways of thinking. You can leave this place,” Huo Weiwu said angrily as she spun around and marched back into her room. She flung her door shut forcefully. Her eyes reddened as she forced her tears back.
