My Brother was a Genius

Chapter 3 - I met a star.

I met a star.

Music is a field, in which talent matters the most.

Even a loser like me believed that I had a talent because of all the praises I received during my middle school years.

But I came to understand that what I had was not a talent, when I entered Shibumi Arts school.

There, I saw real Geniuses, people with talents that can never be reached by common people.

They were walls, which I could never climb, no matter how hard I tried.

This was the cruel reality that was shoved on my face, in the age of 17 at Shibumi Arts school.

But I refused to admit that.

I believed that I also had a talent, and with a little more effort, I would be able to catch up to those Geniuses.

I was short-sighted.

The world where Geniuses and normal people lived were different.

No matter how hard I tried I was never able to narrow the distance with them.

When I was trying to understand 1 new thing, they were able to reproduce 5 new things. When I learned 5 new things, they were spitting 50 new things.

I also wanted to be a singer like them.

I also wanted to make the hearts of the audience flutter with my songs like them.

I also wanted to shine brightly on a stage like them.

How much I saw their success, that much it made it difficult for me give up on my dream.

I thought, if I worked 10 times harder, may be, I would be able become like them

When I failed I tried 20 times harder….

30 times harder…

harder………………..

Even then I couldn’t reach them.

And the price I paid for my every effort, was the happiness of my family.

If had I admitted that I’m a loser, I would have avoided the pointless death of my mother.

If I had admitted that I’m a loser, I could have avoided the hardships faced my sister.

If I had……..admitted

I’m not a Genius.

“Brother.”

Suyeon’s voice brought me back to the reality.

I lifted my head up and looked at Suyeon.

When I saw Suyeon’s face, the song that she sang just now, replayed in my head.

I can’t believe that Suyeon had such a great talent.

With my surprised face I opened my mouth.

“Suyeon.”

” Ha..how was it….is it weird..!?”

“Did anyone taught you, how to sing….?”

“Yes.”

“wha…! When…?”

As far as I know, Suyeon never took any professional singing class.

With our family situation, there was no way mother would have been able to pay fees for the singing classes of both me and Suyeon.

Seeing my surprised face Suyeon’s cheeks sprouted like a balloon.

“You forgot….. didn’t you…?”

“Forgot…! What…?”

“You teaching an elementary school girl, how to sing.”

“Ah…..”

Suddenly a memory flashed in front of my mind.

Little Suyeon came to me and cried saying that everyone in her class laughed whenever she sings.

She asked me a magic spell to make her sing so well, that no one would laugh at her anymore.

At that time, I just taught some few basics about singing from my vocals class to her for about an hour or two.

With just that……. no way……

“After that I practiced everyday what brother taught me…….SO is it……..good..!?”

“It’s not good.”

Suyeon’s face grew darker….

“It’s just Awesome.”

“Really.”

Now her face started to glow brightly…

DAMN…………MY SISTER IS CUTE….

Suyeon jumped up in joy as if she had won some kind of Grammy award.

I felt sorry to see Suyeon smile so happily after receiving a compliment from a loser like me.

She is Genius…..soon, she will be able to receive compliments from many great people.

At that time this compliment from a loser will not be even in her memory.

” Suyeon.”

“ Huh……”

“Didn’t you say that you wanted to be a singer..?”

“tha……. I just………. wish I could.”

Suyeon mumbled the words….with a face that believed that she could never become one.

What kind of sh**ty fate is this.

The person who would have achieved the dream, if given an opportunity was deprived of all opportunities.

While a loser who had no chance of attaining the dream was given a tons of chances

It won’t be the same this time.

I will give every bit of my chance to you….little sister.

With a heart full of confidence, I looked at the fluttering Suyeon and said.

“Let’s make you a singer………a great one at that.”

It was the moment when I decided what I had to do.

Won Seong, ran Howl studio as a hobby. More precisely, the hobby of observing the guests who come to the studio.

There were many types of people who came to studio.

People who just wanted to record songs as a hobby. People who came on a date.

And people who seriously dreamt of becoming a singer.

And now there was a very interesting guest in front of him….

“ Hello.”

He is the youngest customer ever came to the studio. His name was Yoon Hajun. He visits the studio once in every two weeks

By the looks he appeared to be in final year of middle school, or first year of high school.

But his attitude was too mature for his age.

“Is it the same two hours…!?”

“ Yes.”

Hajun nodded and entered the recording studio.

Soon after, the music began to seep out of the tightly closed iron door.

Seong closed his eyes, and got himself immersed in the music.

Every time the boy comes, he played a greatly altered song from the previous one.

The level of perfection of those songs were quite high.

Time flew as Seong deduced about the customer with his closed eyes and the two hours passed in an instant, and Hajun came out of the recording room.

His face showed signs of regret.

It seemed that even the song today was not to his satisfaction.

Seong was very satisfied with Hajun’s attitude.

A normal kid would be proud of himself if he had this level of skill, but Hajun was different. He finds it insufficient, and tries to improve himself every time he came to the studio.

At the disappointed Hajun, who came in-front of the counter, Seong spoke

“Would you like to have a drink.”

Hajun nodded at Seong’s words

” I’d love to.”

Seong went to the refrigerator placed behind his desk, and took an ice tea and gave it to Hajun

“Thank you.”

While Hajun was drinking the ice tea Seong who was watching, spoke

“Are you a trainee in any music company..?”

“ No.”

” Then are you a music aspirant.”

“ Well……kind of similar.”

“You look like a student, how old are you.?”

” I’m

17.”

“Can I ask which school you are studying..?”

“I will be attending Shibumi Arts school from this year.”

At the words that came out of Hajun’s mouth, all the set pieces for the puzzle of mysterious customer got arranged in Seong’s head.

“I see, if you’re a student of Shibumi Arts school, then that level of skill is understandable.”

“What major…?…may be Applied music.”

“Yes.”

“Is it the vocals department…?”

Hajun shook his head.

” It’s the composition department.”

“Ohh…”

Won sungmin exclaimed. After scratching his shaggy beard for a while, he said

Then you are my junior.”

” You…. graduated from Shibumi Art school…?”

“Yes… come to think of it…… isn’t it already 10 years since graduated.”

Hajun opened his eyes wide.

He never thought, he would have a senior in his neighbourhood.

When Hajun was in his thought, Seong continued to speak.

“Looks like you are doing everything from composing to producing….aren’t you.”

“ Yes.”

“Do you use electronic keyboard for composing.”

“No…I use logic.”

“You mean logic software….then all are virtual instruments.”

Hajun nodded his head

The more they talked, the more Seong liked Hajun He felt like that he had found something unique, and want to keep observing

” Are there any plans on recording with an instrument? No matter how good a virtual instrument is, it cannot keep up with the strengths of a real instrument.”

“I want to do that to, but its a bit difficult due to my circumstances.”

u Then how about the idea….of using my instruments.?”

“Really….”

“Yes, I will lend it to you as you great senior.”

“ Can I…..really borrow..?”

“Of course junior…..but there is a condition.”

“ Condition…?”

“Yes….the first audience for your song should be me.”

Hajun nodded his head ferociously.

– Good….with the deal made….let’s head to my sanctum.”

Seong took Hajun to a place upstairs that was different from the recording room he used to rent.

“Even if we don’t have a piano, we have an electronic keyboard, drums and a guitar.”

Once the tightly closed door was opened Hajun’s eyes grew bigger at the various instruments that were placed in a neatly organised studio.

The level of the instruments in the room was no joke.

In particular,, there were two guitars of each type, and some of them boasted great prices.

” What kind of instruments can you use.”

“I can play a little piano and guitar.”

Yoon Hajun mainly used the piano and guitar, when composing in his previous life.

Among them , the most frequently used was the guitar.

No matter how good the virtual instrument was, there was a difference compared to the real guitar, so Yoon Hajun insisted on using the real guitar.

“Its all tuned, but if you don’t like it, you can retune it.”

At Seong’s words, Hajun looked at the guitars.

After taking a few steps, he stopped in front of a guitar.

The guitar model itself wasn’t that special. However the large sticker on the body was somehow familiar.

I’ve seen this a guitar lot…… Where….where…?’

” If you need help, feel free to ask me. I might lack skills, but I can teach you certain things.”

Seong’s didn’t enter Hajun’s ears, instead his mind was filled with the guitar in front of him.

“A Guitar owned by a studio owner….where could I seen it.’
