Chapter 58: A Man Or A Woman?

Ning Youyou glanced at her watch and realized that she had been waiting at the door for about 40 minutes now.

It seemed like the person that she was waiting for would never come.

“What are you doing here?”

She was about to leave when a familiar voice came talking to her.

The voice reminded her of him. She turned around on the spur of the moment and saw the face that she had been waiting to see.

“Mu!” She reacted in utter surprise.

In all honesty, she did not expect him to show up.

All of a sudden, she became a little slow-witted. She had been waiting to see him, but when he finally showed up, she was suddenly rendered speechless.

She squeezed the bag in her hand a little tighter while trying to find something to say. “You know what, I’m your colleague now,” she broke the silence with a brief self-introduction.

“Hmm?” Mu Shaoqing appeared quite aloof and detached.

“I’m here for my orientation as a new staff member, which means I’ll be a part of the company from now on. In that case, we may call ourselves colleagues,” Ning Youyou explained.

“Oh,” Mu Shaoqing acknowledged it, matter-of-factly.

Ning Youyou stared at him blankly, for she was a little startled by his cold, impassive face. With her head down, she saw the bag in her hand, which reminded her of something that she had yet to give him. “Actually, I’ve been waiting for you. I have no idea which department you’re working in, so I thought it might be a good idea to wait for you here at the entrance. I was just trying my luck. Who knew! You’re really here!”

Mu Shaoqing sized her up. “What’s the matter?” He asked in a dull voice.

Smilingly, Ning Youyou passed him the bag. “I’m returning this to you. Thank you, I appreciate what you did last time.”

Mu Shaoqing took a brief look at the bag and saw the jacket in it. He recognized it at first sight. It was his tailor-made jacket, a limited edition that was one of its kind. He put it on her that night and completely forgot about it the next day. He did not think that she would return it, much to his surprise, in a well-folded manner.

They came to a standstill for a while before Mu Shaoqing actually accepted the bag.

“You’re welcome.”

Ning Youyou gave a chuckle, but before she could say anything, the phone in her bag started ringing. “Excuse me, I have to answer the call,” she said rather apologetically.

She turned sideways to take out her phone. It was her mother calling, so she answered it immediately.

“Hello.”

“Youyou, what took you so long?”

Ning Youyou felt a little awkward. “Mom, I answered it as soon as I could,” she softly said.

“Youyou, why are you talking so softly? Are you with someone? A man or a woman?”

She did not know how to answer the question at once.

Ning Youyou threw a glance at Mu Shaoqing and was glad that he was not looking at her. There was no way she could answer her mother’s blunt question in his presence.

“Mom, why are you calling me?” She decided to skip the question.

“Oh, Youyou, I’m calling to tell you that your friends are here to see you. Your father asked if you could buy some groceries from the fresh market on your way home.”

“My friends?” A confused expression crossed her face.

“Oh, it’s…”

The call was interrupted. Xiao Hong and Xiao Lan could be heard talking loudly.

“Ta-da! We’re here for you, Youyou!”

“Surprise, surprise! We dropped by as soon as we could after work, but it’s such a disappointment that you’re not home. We’ve even brought you some gifts!”

In response to their mischievous act, Ning Youyou lowered her voice and pretended to be serious. “It’s your fault. You should’ve called me before you dropped by.”

Nonetheless, she promised to be home as soon as she could before she hung up.

Ning Youyou looked up at Mu Shaoqing, smilingly. “My family called. I have to go now.”

Mu Shaoqing looked at her and nodded lightly.
