Not long after Ning Youyou got into the taxi, Xiao Hong called.

What she was trying to say was the same as Xiao Lan. Both of them had found their companions from Mu Se, so they felt bad for leaving Ning Youyou out. Xiao Hong actually called to try and change her mind.

“Xiao Hong, thank you, but I’ve already found someone.” Ning Youyou continued with a smile, “I’ll be attending the ball.”

Xiao Hong was thrilled by the good news, and so was Xiao Lan! 

She chimed in, “See! Youyou has got herself a companion to the ball. There is really nothing we should be worried about.”

Gladly, Ning Youyou hung up the phone.

She swiped her phone happily and saw the number that she had just recorded down. It was Mu Shaoqing’s number. Quickly, she saved his number in her contacts but was unsure of his name. She was not told of his full name and only knew him by ‘Mu’. Therefore, she simply saved his number under the name Mu. Besides, she could always ask for his name next time.

She looked at her cracked screen with a frown. It certainly needed to be fixed before the ball. 

As soon as she got to the office the very next day, both Xiao Hong and Xiao Lan decided to get to the bottom of the events from yesterday.

“Youyou, what exactly happened last night? Why didn’t you say anything before you left?”

“Also, how did you manage to find a companion all of a sudden? What’s going on?”

In the face of doubt, Ning Youyou decided to be honest with her two good friends. 

“I left the club to get some fresh air; that was when my phone was stolen. Fortunately, an acquaintance of mine stepped in and helped.”

Both Xiao Hong and Xiao Lan paled with shock at the news.

“Come. Let me have a look. Were you hurt?”

“Oh, god! You were robbed! I can’t believe it. That’s so scary.”

Ning Youyou dismissed their concern with a smile. “It’s all right. I consider myself lucky for getting out of the jaws of danger unharmed.”

Xiao Lan still shuddered at the thought of the robbery. “Youyou, shall we get you a boyfriend to protect you? It’s far too dangerous for you to walk alone at night. We’re going to be worried about you.”

“Agreed. Youyou, you are the most beautiful girl in our department. What if something bad happens to you?”

Ning Youyou casually shrugged her shoulders.

“You aren’t rushing me into a relationship, are you? We should take it easy about boyfriends and stuff. As for now, I think we should all focus on our career development instead.”

Xiao Lan continued to bombard her with questions, “By the way, Youyou, didn’t you say that you’ve found a companion to the ball? Who is it? How did you find him so suddenly? Where is he from? Do we know him?”

Ning Youyou decided to throw the same subject at them.

“Xiao Lan, Xiao Hong, what about you? What about the men that you’ve paid for? Are they reliable? Will things go wrong?”
