59. The Scheme

Du Chuxuan caught his laugh. Ever since Yuxing Tianrui moved back to his own tent, when no one was around, he began to ignore Du Chuxuan again. At first, Du Chuxuan thought his tsundere boy was mad at him again for some unknown reason. Later, as Dongxiang reminded, he finally remembered the book he had given to Yuxing Tianrui and understood everything.

“Your Highness. Will you try?” He raised an eyebrow and smiled at Yuxing Tianrui, a touch of teasing in his eyes. Yuxing Tianrui’s words were swallowed back.

Yuxing Tianrui didn’t intend to ask, but it didn’t mean the thing wasn’t urgent, but because the Turks wouldn’t launch a battle within a short period of time. He was also extremely curious about this matter. No matter what, Ashina Yi, as the second prince, was a capable person, but his competence just never got a chance to be played.

He handed the secret letter to Du Chuxuan and quietly observed his reaction.

Du Chuxuan stunned for a moment and quickly unfolded the letter. The handwriting was vigorously stylish and needless to say to whom it belonged. He flicked through rapidly and finished the letter, his lips slightly parted, not knowing what to say to it.

“So what does it mean?” He felt his head swelling. Yuxing Tianrui laughed briefly, “Everyone in the world knows that father only has one wife, that is my mother, and has dismissed the entire harem for her. Now this woman, the so-called Concubine Shu, showed up without making a row. Isn’t her purpose obvious?”

Du Chuxuan sighed. Now they were stuck in the frontier and whatever happened in the capital was out of their reach. However, he could still sense the ghost of sarcasm in Yuxing Tianrui’s tone.

“I don’t think you need to worry. If father really wants to hide it from you, he wouldn’t have written this letter to you.” Du Chuxuan carefully put the letter on candle fire and watched it burned out, throwing it away.

“Besides, the letter says the woman is merely a concubine. A woman of a humble origin will at most be a wife of equal position as mother, and it should be your eldest brother who is most threatened by the child she brought over.” A trace of wicked smile played on Du Chuxuan’s lips, but the worry was still discernible in his eyes by careful observation.

Knowing that Du Chuxuan was trying to comfort him, Yuxing Tianrui pressed his lips in silence and didn’t talk before long, “My plan is to figure out the man behind the scene as soon as possible, so as to make sure there aren’t disloyal people at the border. Therefore, I’ll feel safe to delegate the power to others and leave here.”

Du Chuxuan certainly understood his thoughts and nodded knowingly. Then, he carefully spread the medicine in his hand on the edge of the window.

Looking at the nearly imperceptible film of powder, he gave a light sigh. This was the last thing the old man had given him before he left. He had planned to use it to save his life when necessarily, but now, it should be used in this way.

However, he didn’t grudge over it at all and was even a little elated at the thought of leaving this barren place soon, “It’s not difficult to catch the man. What’re you going to do with the person?”

Now the whole barracks knew that Shan Zhongli had been imprisoned, for self-evident reasons that Du Chuxuan had stated the other day at the meeting. Based on those three accusations, it was reasonably to ground Shan Zhongli, but hard to convict him. At least, the Court didn’t work in this way. Just go on with the actual situation in the future.

Yuxing Tianrui didn’t worry about this matter, hugging himself in an attitude to watch a great show, “I’ll handle the rest, as long as you catch the person.”

Du Chuxuan pursed the lips and shrugged, “I’ve prepared everything. Now, the rest is your work. Forget it. It’s dark outside. I should go back. Take a good rest, Your Highness and good night.”

Before he left, he gave Yuxing Tianrui a seductive look. What he wore today was already beautiful, and the way he did it was so captivating that it gave a catch at the soul.

“Hem!” Making a nearly inaudible snort, Yuxing Tianrui pretended he didn’t see that gesture of Du Chuxuan and buried himself in collecting the files on the desk. However, the moment his fingers crossed the book wrapped in cloth, his ears were redder and redder.

The reason why Yuxing Tianrui and Du Chuxuan were in a relaxed mood was because of the internal instability among the Turks.

Ashina Yi’s, in a somber face, fixed his eyes on the edict, a trace of cruel smile at the corners of his lips. He heavily cast the edict scroll on the floor, “Great. Everyone is so smart.”

A group of advisors were kneeling in front of him, tremulous and not daring to speak. Since the edict scroll arrived, Ashina Yi’s expression wasn’t pleasant. The rest of the others didn’t dare to ask what was going on and only waited quietly for Ashina Yi to tell them what it said.

A hidden guard, who had been observing Ashina Yi’s face in the distance, cautiously picked up the scroll and handed it to an advisor kneeling nearest. The man took care in unrolling it and flicked through. Then he couldn’t help but to fall sitting on the floor, too shocked to say a word.

Those behind him were surprised at his reaction, all crawling forward to see what the edict said. When they finished reading it, everyone in the hall became clammed up.

“Your Highness, this isn’t a trivial matter, but things on the battlefield change in every second. Although we haven’t achieved a long-tern victory yet, Shenglan has suffered a miserable casualty. As long as we stick to it, we’ll surely defeat them and march across the border.” A man brought himself to step forward and make the suggestion, seeing no one else had the courage to talk.

Ashina Yi didn’t speak, but there had been gleams in his eyes. After a long while, he turned to face the advisors and asked in a cold voice, “What about the others? What do you think?”

When Yuxing Tianrui got that news, so did Ashina Yi. It was obvious that this was the best timing to launch a battle against Shenglan. He really didn’t want to miss out this opportunity with an inviting reward.

The advisors knew him well and naturally understood what was in his mind. However, after all, the edict was from the King, which even Ashina Yi, a prince, couldn’t simply ignore it.

To them, they could try to make a military merit in the future, but if the eldest prince mounted the position now, they would be kicked out of the game forever.
