Marvel: Starting From The Bottom

Chapter 74 - External of Despair, Absalom

[[Selene Gallio]]

"So, I cannot leave this room until the guest leaves?"

Amara, my last direct descendant asked with sadness in her eyes. She was far too naive for her age and I couldn't let Absalom find her. The Externals might be a group of individuals that consider themselves to be Gods— but even an External didn't trust another External.

There was no way that I could let Absalom meet my granddaughter.

"Yes. You may roam freely once this guest leaves but before that… you are not to take a step out of this room." I ordered, making her frown. "Well, the maids will provide you with everything that you need so you don't have to worry too much about anything."

Amara nodded.

"Alright, I will see you once the guest leaves. He should be here in an hour or two." I said before walking towards the door.

Amara gave me a bow, letting her long golden hair touch the ground.

"My lady, Mr. Hanley has arrived." One of the maids said as I walk out of Amara's room.

"Very well, I will meet him soon."

Ancient Roman architecture is one of the most fascinating and advanced forms of architecture to this date. There have not been many civilisations that have been able to come anywhere close to the architecture and city planning done by the Romans. Even modern architecture draws inspiration from the Romans.

The castle of Nova Roma was ancient. It was built long before historians started recording history. But by means of magic, Selene has managed to maintain the perfect state of this castle throughout the millennia.

The nation went unharmed even after Apocalypse's quest and that's a feat of its own. Selene managed to keep it hidden from his eyes— the eyes of a mutant god.

As I was appreciating the beauty of the architecture, another beauty walked towards me.

"I apologise for my tardiness." Selene said as she approached me. "But I had to take care of my granddaughter as Absalom is about to be here soon."

Shaking my head, I replied. "Absalom is one of the Externals with high authority. So, I can understand your worry."

Selene smirked and raised an eyebrow. "Sometimes, I find your ability to gather intel terrifying. Absalom is a man who has kept himself hidden from before the time you were born and for you to know about him… it's a mystery. You are lucky that I cannot pry into that head of yours." She narrowed her eyebrows. "But that is also what makes you fascinating."

Unfazed by her words, I put on a smile. "For those who know about the Externals, it's not difficult to gather information about Absalom. While he has made his social presence almost non-existent throughout the years— he used to be a major face in the immortal community. While I might not know about his current self, his past is something that I am very familiar with."

I have been making a huge mistake as of late— and that was overestimating the time I had. As I went through the events that happened in the past and the ones that are supposed to happen in the future… I realised that I might have kick-started a few events while erasing the chances of a few happening altogether. It was a buŧŧerfly effect— a single pebble thrown on the water surface causing ripples.

And I have to stay prepared for the future— even the power of the Sentry is not enough. If someone like Knull decides to invade earth— even with the power of sentry, I would be nothing more than an ant in front of the grasshopper.

"After the world war, Absalom said that humans were growing dangerous at a rapid pace and he needed time to come up with ways to keep up with them." Selene frowned. "I am stronger and more experienced than most of the other Externals and that makes it difficult for them to trust me… that is also the reason I am not part of the upper echelon of the Externals."

Most of the Externals are ridiculously weak and the only thing that they can be proud of… is their immortality and resurrection ability. The true scary members of the Externals have always been Apocalypse and Selene.

But fortunately for me, Apocalypse is not a part of it right now. He is by far the strongest and most terrifying mutant… obviously not taking the Marquis of Death, Matthew Malloy or Jim Jaspers in the mix.

Each external represents an aspect or concept and Apocalypse represented destruction while Absalom represented despair.

And of course… Selene represents corruption.

"Absalom from what I know is arrogant. So, the way to deal with him will be by getting on his good side." I said with a smirk, making Selene raise an eyebrow.

"Absalom may be arrogant, but he is cunning. Don't get carried away." Selene warned, which made me chuckle.

"Don't worry, Lady Selene. I will be careful."

You have no idea how much I know about Absalom, Selene. I know him better than any External knows him.

But maybe… torturing could be a better option.

After a moment of silence, Selene asked. "Does finding the Externals have something to do with your project 'Eutopia' or your promise of immortality?"

Selene… you are smart, and that might be a problem.

Nova Roma… Still as worthless of a nation as ever.

Sometimes, I wonder— How high is Selene's superiority complex to remain stuck in this time locked empire… just to feel like a goddess?

If not for Nicodemus and Gideon's request— I would have never set foot in this godforsaken land.

Old things remind me of my past… one that I would love to forget.

"Absalom."

I would have loved not to hear that voice but Gideon just had to send me on this check-up.

"Selene."

Smiling at the witch of old, I give her a courtesy bow.

"Just as flawless as ever." I said as she smiled.

Selene is the biggest threat within our group by a large margin and the only one other than me that notices this is Nicodemus. Gideon, Saul and the rest think that she is an External and she would always keep the Externals above other beings.

Even Nicodemus agrees to that statement to a certain degree… but they don't know Selene. I am the one who has been on her tail for the longest. She is known to erase all tracks, and that is what makes me the most suspicious of her.

"Honestly, when you said that you were going to make a visit— I was surprised." She said. "I thought it would be Gideon who would make a visit."

He would have loved to… if he wasn't chasing after wealth.

"He is… busy. But it doesn't really matter. I only came to check on a fellow immortal."

She nodded at my statement.

"Very well. Shall we get going?" She asked and I nodded."

"Please."

After all, the sooner I find something— the better.

[[A/N: Unedited as I was watching Last Kingdom. Great show.

And I might start writing advance chapters soon and stock them.

(2) Galan… or as everyone knows him 'Galactus' used to be the Herald of Black Winter. Like Silver Sulfur is the Herald of Galactus.

Winter made him his herald the same way Galactus made Silver Surfer his Herald.

Galactus was scared of Black Winter so he lied and tricked Thor to help him fight Winter. But when Thor learnt the Truth... he drained Galactus of all of his power, taking the power cosmic inside of him. (Cosmic King Thor #6)

He kicked Black Winter and made Galactus cry like a bish before returning things to normal.

It was an awesome volume… even though I am not a fan of the next volumes with Zombies and shit.

Comic Thor and Comic Hulk are on another level. Stormbreaker Thor looks like an ant in front of base Comic Thor.

Best avenger from MCU is Iron Man cuz RDJ… And from the comics it's Thor.🙂

Did I write this fact before?]]
