Legendary Hollywood Producer

Chapter 110: Negotiation (please ask for a recommendation ticket)

In Hollywood in the afternoon, another guest was welcomed in the editing room No. 3 of Warner Studios.

"Roman, Peter Heggis, long time no see, you guys look pretty good."

As soon as Kevin Hoween came in, he saw Roman and Peter Heggis all around the monitor, sitting there not knowing what they were doing.

After walking a few steps, I discovered that the filmed and edited TV series "The Punisher" was playing on the monitor.

Roman heard the sound, got up from his seat, and greeted Kevin Hoween.

"It's been a long time since I saw each other, Kevin Hoween, I'm too busy this time, I ignored your side, it's my fault, I'm sorry."

The two shook hands in a friendly manner.

Kevin Hoween smiled and said, "You are too serious there."

In this project, since the first three episodes were filmed, he called Roman again, and he didn't come to reply. Kevin Howen actually complained against Roman a little bit. Anyone being treated like this would feel a little unhappy in his heart.

After all, although this project was packaged and produced by CAA, it was not really handed over to CAA. The parties did not come to confirm the situation, where CAA would promote the progress of the project, so the crew was half dissolved.

But for the sake of Roman apologizing so sincerely today, Kevin Hoween doesn't care too much.

"I moved some time ago, and I have to keep an eye on the offline release of the movie "The Hangover". That's why the project operation here was delayed. I'm really sorry, Kevin Hoween."

In fact, it was because Roman didn't pay much attention to this project. People from CAA called that day and turned his head and was left behind by him.

"It's okay, isn't it because the TV series are going to be broadcast on TV? The problem is solved, and everything can continue."

Although it is to lay the foundation for the development of Marvel's film and television, if the show is not loved by the audience, it is impossible for Roman to continue to invest money on it.

It's one thing to make money or not, but you can't blow up word of mouth.

If the audience is born with the idea that Marvel movies and TV dramas are rubbish, it will really be a hindrance.

In fact, Roman has also inquired about the operating mode of the TV station, so that's why he didn't care about this project.

This is not the later era. Before the Internet platform came in and disrupted the situation, foreigners could not compare with the "direct ties" after all.

Most of the TV dramas broadcast by TV stations are made by themselves, so are there any foreign ones?

There are also, but people will vigorously promote it only if the copyright is sold off. Otherwise, why should you give up good resources to help you promote it and earn that subscription fee? But if the copyright is sold off, Roman will not be so hard to make a TV series, and act redundantly.

Today's major American TV stations firmly control the market, and they are even more closed than the movie circle before emerging forces come in to disrupt the situation.

Everyone knows that the types of TV stations in the United States are divided into public stations, cable stations, and pay stations, but what is the difference between these? What is the strength of their various types of TV stations? In order to make everyone more intuitive, here is a comparison ranking of spheres of influence:

Public station>Cable station≥Toll station

There are 6 public stations, namely CBS, ABC, NBC, FOX, NBC, CW, and PBS. Each of them covers more than 90% of the area in the United States and is a large television network. Mainly rely on advertisers and ratings to survive, but the PBS TV station among them is quite special. It is non-commercial. It is for the purpose of supporting the development of public broadcasting. It doesn’t care much about ratings or advertisers. It has other sources of funding. Keep running. The other five are not.

Cable TV stations such as USA, TNT, FX, AMC, Disney, MTV, CNN rely on family subscriptions + interstitial commercials + drama DVD sales to make profits. The coverage is mainly in various cities, with a coverage rate of about 70%. In many remote areas, these stations cannot be found at all.

Moreover, public stations and these cable stations will pay attention to the issue of scale, because their audiences are minors, so there are restrictions. Any fruit shots and vulgar language are strictly prohibited, and swear words will be directly "beeped".

The coverage rate of pay TV stations is not much different from that of cable stations, but there is a question of whether to subscribe or not. But because there will always be people who do not subscribe, the theoretical coverage rate is almost the same, and it is only theoretical.

Talking about the problem of TV search channels. Usually, as long as you pay a monthly fee to Comcast, you can directly see the public and cable channels. The two are basically sold together at a cost of $70 a month. And pay TV stations such as HBO, showtime, starz, etc., need to pay an extra money to be searched on TV without packaging, that is, whichever you subscribe to, you will find which one.

Comcast is the largest cable TV operator in North America, and they are also responsible for broadband access services. Because the base station construction, line laying, signal management and other tasks in many parts of the United States are completed by their companies, they are the overlords of the television industry of course, and television stations are actually doing a job that specializes in providing film and television content services.

Content production is what we often call "American TV dramas". TV stations definitely need them, but they usually shoot and produce them by themselves, then broadcast them, and cooperate with others. That is also to share copyright.

The main reason for this is that they have no shortage of collaborators or TV series. In order to maximize profits, they must be divided by copyright. After all, when DVDs are released offline, no copyright means completeness. Give up that part of the income.

For these reasons, Roman did not pay much attention to the distribution of TV series. Copyright is his bottom line, and it is impossible for him to separate it, let alone sell it out.

Roman can't allow others to meddle with the copyright benefits of these Marvel characters. The big losses Marvel has suffered in the past about copyright are still reminding him all the time. The copyrights of Spider-Man, X-Men, Fantastic Four and other characters are almost stripped from Marvel, and the profits they make will not be shared with Marvel. In the future of the superhero market, the intestines of Marvel executives will be regretted.

The separation of copyright not only means the division of profits, but also means that in the production of the role of the film and television drama, the consent of another part of the copyright owner must be obtained, otherwise the filming will not be possible. "Mission: Impossible" is a good example. As long as one of Paramount Pictures and Tom Cruise disagrees, the project will not start.

This is a terrible thing, Roman will not let the copyright of Marvel's characters be divided.
