35. Mind-Clearing Slip

Master Winston saw that Mirrocle wanted to say something, but he did not push it.

Among all his disciples, Mirrocle was the youngest one. Originally, he did not intend to accept any more disciples. Mirrocle was an orphan picked up by his eldest disciple when he came back to school.

Originally, he planned to send Mirrocle to an orphanage, but Mirrocle seemed to have an affinity with magic. On the way back, he had been crying nonstop. But once he entered the magic school, he became quiet.

Initially, the eldest disciple thought it was a coincidence, but every time he took Mirrocle out of the school, he would cry until his little face was red.

Master Winston was sympathetic and at such an old age, he couldn’t stand it when he saw a baby crying so sadly, so he let Mirrocle stay.

When Mirrocle was taken to the school, Master Winston’s eldest apprentice was in his twelfth grade. His other two apprentices were also at the critical moment of their study.

Therefore, Mirrocle was brought up by Master Winston. So the relationship between them was more like that of grandpa and grandson compared with other apprentices.

Mirrocle did not say anything until the two of them were at the gate of the school. Master Winston really could not get what was with the young men nowadays. If they had something to say, just say it. Why were they wasting so much time being hesitant? In the end, they would say it anyways. So what was the point of being hesitant and wasting so much time?

“If you don’t say it, you won’t have any dinner tonight.” Finally, Master Winston couldn’t hold it in.

Now that he was old, he liked being straightforward. After all, there was not much time left for him. So he needed to cherish every second.

Mirrocle was still immersed in his own thoughts. When Master Winston said that, he silently sorted out his thoughts, summoned up the courage and asked, “Master, what should I do if I he meet someone who get reborn in a dead body?”

Master Winston thought Mirrocle was just bothered by some trivial matter, but who would have thought that he would say something so huge?

As a man who had gone through a lot, even he couldn’t maintain his composure. He was shocked and said, “You met someone who was reborn in a dead body? Did you get in any danger? Who would be so bold to do something like that in this kind of situation?!”

In the long life of nearly a hundred years of Master Winston, he had had many unimaginably queer and heart-stopping experiences, but when it came to rebirth in a dead body, he only read it in ancient books. After all, in the face of a world catastrophe, all living things including humans and fairies had to take great effort to stay alive under the natural law. Who would risk going against the nature’s will by reviving in a dead body?

Mirrocle saw that his master, who had always been calm, act as if he was facing an archenemy. He wondered again whether he should tell his master or not.

However, Master Winston impatiently scolded, “Just say it! Don’t mince your words. You know I don’t like being kept in suspense. Hurry up and say it!”

So Mirrocle told him everything he had experienced in the valley of the Astraea Foxclan, including the jade slip that he saw for the first time but was definitely very important to the Astraea Foxclan, and Larry’s identity.

However, he still chose to hide something, for example, the fact that Larry was originally a human and was reborn in a dead fox’s body.

He didn’t want to get his master worried. He thought that it had nothing to do with Larry’s injury.

Master Winston could tell that Mirrocle was hiding something from him, but since he was reluctant to tell him, he wouldn’t force him to say it either. He carefully pondered what Mirrocle said about what happened when they were in the territory of the Astraea Foxclan.

“Those who attacked you the first time were the Dummy Foxghosts, but it should not have much to do with the Astraea Foxclan.” Seeing that Mirrocle was confused, Master Winston took a sip of tea and explained, “Among all the fairies, the Astraea Foxclan is the least likely to hurt others. It is not that they aren’t capable of doing that, but that those Astraea Foxes who want to go further with their cultivation are very careful of their actions and try not to get their hands dirty. You just said that the foxghosts were merciless to you. Astraea Foxes and Dummy Foxghosts are both at an extreme. Dummy Foxghosts are extremely evil and Astraea Foxes are the opposite of evil. So those Astraea Foxes who don’t want to get their hands dirty would never work with the Dummy Foxghosts. You got away this time without being hurt because Astraea Foxes won’t kill anyone unless they’re left with no other choices.”

Mirrocle was deep in thought. He recalled what the leader of the Astraea Foxclan had done after he appeared. The leader did not do anything to them. He just took away the jade slip. Though he attacked June, he did not mean to kill her. So, the real danger they encountered was when the Foxghosts attacked them. Later, they could get away because they were lucky that the leader of the Astraea Foxclan cared about his reputation.

Thinking of the jade slip that the leader of the Astraea Foxclan valued so much, Mirrocle asked. “Master, do you know the jade slip that the leader of the Astraea Foxclan took away while we were in the valley? Also, I came back this time mainly to ask you to think of a way to save the little fox. He had helped me before, and he had never done anything bad. Master, please help me save him!”

Master Winston pondered for a moment and thought about a book he had read before. The book was very old and mixed with a bunch of magic books. Master Winston loved reading when he was young. But due to the turbulent society, there were not too many books for him to read. He could only turn to the books in the school and read each one repeatedly. That was also why during the world catastrophe, the House of Mirrors could keep most of their strength.

It was a pity that the book was too shabby. He just flipped through it once. Due to its old age and lack of maintenance, the paper became too fragile and turned into powder. So Master Winston could only try to remember part of the content of the book.

“If I remember it correctly, it should be a magic weapon of the Astraea Foxclan and it is called Mind-Clearing Slip. It is said that it was left by a nine-tailed Kurama Fox a thousand years ago before he became an immortal. Although it couldn’t be used to attack others, the biggest advantage of this weapon is its extremely strong defensive power. It is said that due to this magic weapon, the nine-tailed Kurama Fox did not get hurt by thunders while he flew up to the sky. The Astraea Foxes are still able to cultivate without any hindrance thanks to the Mind-Clearing Slip, but no matter how powerful the magic weapon is, it can’t avoid being affected by the passage of time. It has been nearly a thousand years since the nine-tailed Kurama Fox ascended to the sky and became an immortal. There has never been another nine-tailed Kurama Fox in the Astraea Foxclan ever since then. As for that little fox, there must be something special about him, but I’m not sure what it is that makes him special.”

Master Winston might be old, but he could proudly say that his memory was absolutely better than that of ordinary people, and might even be better than the young people who stayed up every day.

“Also, that little fox’s injury is too serious. The magic healing spells may not be applicable. Perhaps the best treatment for him is to use the Mind-Clearing Slip. In addition to its strong defensive power, the Mind-Clearing Slip could also use its own power to repair the spiritual energy around it. That little fox’s Essence Orb and his limps are all broken. Even if I go and help him, the chances of him being able to continue his cultivation will still be slim. So the best treatment for him right now is to use the power of the Mind-Clearing Slip.”

After confirming that he did not miss anything, Master Winston told Mirrocle everything he knew.

Even though Mirrocle was still puzzled, for example, since the Mind-Clearing Slip’s ability to repair was so strong, why did the Patriarch of the Astraea Foxclan deliberately harm Larry and then put the Mind-Clearing Slip together with Larry? Wasn’t it like carrying coals to Newcastle?
