33. I Will Take You With Me

Translator: Ann Yi

If, in this world, there was someone who cared about you the most and understood you the most, that person must be your enemy.

In this case, the Patriarch knew everything about the Evelynn Foxclan. For the past thousand years, his hatred to the Evelynn Foxclan’s was deep into his bone marrow. But right now there was a lack of spiritual energy in this world. And for that reason, the conflicts between the Evelynn Foxclan and the Astraea Foxclan were kept to a minimum; otherwise the war between the two clans would have erupted long ago.

Decades before, the Evelynn Foxclan went through a civil unrest. After that, the Foremother of the Evelynn Foxclan never appeared again. The Astraea Foxclan had been closely watching the situation of the Evelynn Foxclan, but they didn’t want to get their hands dirty, and that was why the world had been peaceful for so many years.

The Patriarch did not hesitate at all. He went straight to June and hit her, though he failed to shoulder the responsibility as June’s Master.

But, he knew how strong June was.

Even if June took the blow head on, she wouldn’t die. At most, she would be seriously injured. The reason why the Patriarch did not do anything to harm the rest of them was that he had reached a critical moment in his cultivation, so he couldn’t possibly get his hands dirty. If he attacked Frost or Mirrocle, it could easily sabotage his crucial cultivation.

As for June, he didn’t need to concern himself with her. First, June betrayed the Astraea Foxclan, and second, she wouldn’t be dead even if she took the attack. Most importantly, the Patriarch came here not to deal with these over-confident and blindly arrogant people. But if they found out his secret, it would not be worth it.

The instant June dodged, Mirrocle and Frost stood together to protect Larry, afraid that the old fox would hurt him.

But the old fox, who they saw as a pain in the ass, did not attack them. And before they knew it, he took the jade slip and disappeared into thin air.

June looked thoughtful. She saw what the Patriarch did and heard what he said about the Evelynn Foxclan.

She looked at Frost calmly. What Master meant couldn’t possibly be Mirrocle. Had Mirrocle been a member of the Evelynn Foxclan, he wouldn’t have learnt magics.

In June’s eyes, Frost’s true identity was both unexpected and expected. Otherwise, no way could she explain all those unbelievable abilities Frost had showed them all the way here.

“Young Lady, are you alright?” After Mirrocle confirmed that the coast was clear and that there wasn’t anyone present who would attack Larry, he then remembered June.

The truth was the Patriarch didn’t hit June. She was lying on the ground, just because she was thinking about the Patriarch’s intentions and Frost’s identity.

“I’m alright. Don’t worry. Larry’s condition is very bad. I know that you’re a vet.” June’s stare made Frost hold Larry tighter.

“You see, he is not suffering from simple, physical wounds. His inner spiritual energy system is completely destroyed and his limps are broken. Even if you take him down the mountain and cure him, he will only be an ordinary crippled fox.” June’s purpose was clear and had not changed.

She wanted to take her Senior Brother with her and wanted him to be with her all the time. No matter what he became, she wished they would never be apart.

Even though Mirrocle couldn’t see through June’s thoughts, his thoughts were exactly the same as June’s. He didn’t want Larry to get hurt again, whether Larry was a human or a little fox.

“I can bring him back to the House of Mirrors and ask Master to save him. Master’s cultivation is way better than mine, so he can definitely cure Larry!” Mirrocle advised.

Frost took a step closer to Mirrocle. Subconsciously he believed Mirrocle more.

June smiled and seemed to be very disdainful of what Mirrocle said, “You humans have always treated other species as outsiders. You think I will buy it? Humans will never do their best to save a fox fairy.”

These years, the relationship between humans and the fairies was a subtle subject. There had not been a large-scale confrontation, but there had been endless small conflicts.

Seeing that Mirrocle was obviously hesitant, June continued to say with her charming voice, “Also, like I said, you can cure people and beasts, but can you cure fairies? Do you really think you’re doing him good by taking him to the human world?”

With the spell of June’s charming words, the hands Frost used to hold Larry tightly started to get loose.

Mirrocle was shocked as he almost fell under the spell of June!

Silently, he recited the Mind-purifying Incantation, and stopped himself from being charmed. He secretly took out a Mind-purifying Talisman from his pocket. This kind of talisman was easy to draw, but it was quite effective. It was something he must take when he travelled, and he never hesitated to use it. That was why he usually put as many Mind-purifying Talismans as possible in his pocket.

Mirrocle and Frost were standing in the same direction. Even though Frost took a step towards June while June and Mirrocle were talking, the distance between him and Mirrocle was still very short. So June didn’t even notice it when Mirrocle stuck a Mind-purifying Talisman on Frost’s back.

The moment the Mind-purifying Talisman was attached to Frost, Frost felt fresh air surging in his head and he came to his senses.

He and Mirrocle exchanged a glance, and he knew what he should do.

“If I give Larry to you, how can you guarantee that you will cure him?” Frost asked June. If June didn’t give him a satisfactory answer, he would never let Larry go.

At the same time, Murk slowly moved amidst the dense grass until he was behind June.

If people didn’t observe carefully, Murk’s black fur would be the best camouflage.

June’s nails were painted red. Under the moonlight, her fair fingers and red nails looked strangely beautiful and dangerous, just like the current atmosphere.

“I can’t give you any guarantee. Senior Brother means the world to me. And I don’t need to guarantee to anyone, including you.”

June believed that Frost didn’t know his true identity yet, but judging from his performance tonight, it was only a matter of time when he noticed something was wrong. She could only take Larry away while Frost didn’t know who he really was.

Frost seemed to have been persuaded by her and took a step closer to June, but he held Larry even tighter. Larry had been pretending to be dead in Frost’s arms, as in the current situation, he couldn’t find a better way to face him.

However, Frost’s strength was too great. If he kept on, Larry believed that though he survived the torture of that old fox, he wouldn’t survive Frost’s “loving” embrace.

“A-hee-aee-ha-hee! (I also have a say in this!)” However, Frost could not understand what he was saying. Only Murk and June could understand what he was saying.

June pretended not to hear him, while Murk stayed behind June and held his breath. He cursed the fox in his heart: You want to have a say in this? In your dreams!
