Chapter 16: Curiosity Killed the Cat

While the war raged on, Kailar wasn’t worried at all.

The Celts are a group of militant people. So long as there’s a challenge, they’ll accept and fight their opponents on the battlefield.

Just that… though they had a fiery heart, they were always on the losing end.

The lords and dukes preferred fighting for their own selves but now that King Uther was their backbone, they’ve always managed to win.

Their consecutive victories lighted the whole kingdom of Camelot into a fun-filled happiness.

The Gauls didn’t dare invade their kingdom without planning like they used to do before.

Also, hadn’t the Romans settled down their arrogance as of late?

Amongst the throes of preparation for the war, the manor estate calmed down.

Everyone had stayed up all night panic-stricken after Kailar had brought back a legendary unicorn yesterday.

Moreover, a hapless man had wanted to steal the unicorn away in the midst of the night.

Finding out this matter, Kailar chose to sleep outside the courtyard guarding his new pet and kicked the thief bloody red till he was bulging with wounds.

Kailar shook his head grimly only to find out the thief was one of his servant, an ugly desperate servant.

To think one of his servants would cause him painless trouble. It’s only proper he be beaten and punished.

Curiosity did kill the cat.

After the little punishing, Kailar settled into his resting position and dressed in nightwear clothing.

He sighed as he looked at the obsidian night sky. Slowly, he reached out towards the deep vast sky as if attempting to touch it before resting it back to his side.

Likewise, the unicorn couldn’t sleep. It neighed softly before chewing on the ravine grapes which was very appetizing.

But after a few hours, the duo unknowingly fell asleep.

……

Early Morning.

Kailar went straight to town riding on the back of the unicorn.

Thanks to the cool weather, he hadn’t caught a cold after sleeping out late last night otherwise he wouldn’t be here to see his father.

He’d be lying in bed with a runny nose and high fever.

The streets of Red Leaf changed dramatically.

It was very modern and urban like.

Markets stood to the side with each merchant specializing on their own craft.

Guards and low ranking knights patrolled the streets making sure there’s no troubles arising as they promote their code of conduct and chivalry to the masses.

Red Leaf has only grown prosperous in recent times yet it hasn’t experienced a battle in a long time.

Though they were not of high ranking knights, they nevertheless proved to be an important factor to maintain the stability of Red Leaf. It is why Kailar had hired them to guard the streets while receiving an income of one silver coin monthly.

But today, due to being in a state of war, majority of the knights were preparing themselves for battle and some had already settled themselves in the front lines.

Even though there were fewer guards and knights guarding the streets, they still managed to restore the chaotic city to a serene calmness as if the war hadn’t even occurred.

Kailar was known throughout Red Leaf due to his accomplishments—at least according to women’s gossip they pegged Kailar the little monster who made Red Leaf prosperous and to what it is now.

And because everybody seemed to know everybody, either your mom is a relative of this guy who’s a friend of that guy which is the nephew of your wife, gossip and rumors spread around very quickly in circles.

So, of course, the matter of Kailar bringing in a unicorn—a devil beast no less surprised them thoroughly.

Kailar had already found a way to deal with the matter and prevent others from asking him questions. He’d have his guards emulate Hitler’s unique gesture. It was very aggressive, yet very concise, bringing about a unique feeling.

When Kailar and his knights walked the streets flamboyantly, the crowds looked up in awe.

They with their chest raised parading through the streets in tandem seemed like an unfathomable existence seemed like a sentient being they couldn’t touch. Only look.

The women straightened their chest, their face flushed red. They looked towards Kailar admirably. Ah… only if they’d have chanced upon the opportunity to talk to him… they could die without regrets.
