Chapter 56: That’s It?

The sense of familiarity and security was back. Chi Wan knew that all was well.

She leaned against his body weakly and nodded gently. “I can.”

Wen Mo acknowledged her reply. He lifted the handgun on the ground slightly with the tip of his foot. Then, he kicked the gun into mid-air with his heel, reached out a hand to grab it, and pointed the gun at the man on the ground!

“Who sent you?”

The man let out a hollow laugh. Suddenly, he reached his other hand into his clothes…

Wen Mo shielded Chi Wan and backed away. However, the man took out a sharp knife and sliced the major artery of his neck!

Bright-red blood gushed out of the wound. Not long after, the man’s body laid still on the ground.

Chi Wan had just opened her eyes when she saw the man’s pale, inanimate face. She then passed out quietly in Wen Mo’s arms as if she had been hit in the head.

Wen Mo tossed the gun away and made a phone call to Qin Yu with a crease between his eyebrows. He ordered Qin Yu to take care of the aftermath.

He then carried Chi Wan into his car and drove straight back to Bamboo Garden.

When the female caretaker saw Wen Mo bringing Chi Wan back to his residence, a scornful look appeared on her face.

“Get Peter here.”

“Yes, Young Master.”

Wen Mo scrutinized the woman lying still on the bed. He found it difficult to express what he felt.

Why did she have to react that way?

She could have just stayed where she was and watched, or even escape.

“My dear Second Young Master, I’m here to save the world!”

Peter had his first-aid kit with him as he strolled into the room casually. He was surprised when he saw the unconscious Chi Wan.

“Isn’t she the same woman…”

“Look here.”

Wen Mo had no time to waste. He pulled up Chi Wan’s right pant leg and eyed the bruise on her slim shin with a wince.

Peter was confounded. “You could’ve just applied a bit of ointment on a small injury like that. Did you have to summon me in the middle of the night?”

Wen Mo spoke without looking at him, “I didn’t pay you highly for you to stand here and talk rot.”

With a constipated expression, Peter examined Chi Wan and left behind a bottle of tincture and some ointment.

She was just overwhelmed with shock! And it was only a flesh wound! Why did he have to be so panicky?! Peter was anxious earlier, and thought something serious had happened to Wen Mo!

Wen Mo had his attention fixed on a certain spot the whole time. Instead of staring at Chi Wan’s face, he was looking at her wound.

He applied a few drops of tincture on the bruise on her leg. The numbing pain caused Chi Wan to slowly come to her senses.

She inhaled deeply and woke up immediately!

“Don’t move, it’s almost done.”

Wen Mo lifted his head to glance at her. He did not notice how gentle his tone had become.

Chi Wan was sweating from the discomfort and failed to realize the unusual change in his voice.

“Done.”

After rubbing some ointment, Wen Mo readjusted her pants.

Chi Wan said, “Thank you…”

The bedroom fell into a state of silence. Wen Mo kept quiet while Chi Wan was still reeling in from the prior incident.

What happened today was too abrupt. She was still in a daze.

Wen Mo regarded her with distress. He never thought that he would develop such complex emotions.

“Why?”

He uttered unexpectedly. Chi Wan was stunned and confused. “Why what?”

He asked again, “Why did you defend me?”

Chi Wan bit her lip and gazed at him in a deadpan manner. “I didn’t want to owe you a favor.”

“That’s it?”

Wen Mo peered at her slender yet curvy figure.

It was hard to imagine that a dainty woman like her would react in such an explosive manner.

He still found it difficult to believe when he recalled what happened earlier.
