Chapter 40: The Dwarf Out of the Hole

Carl finally noticed something unusual, and the more he talked with Gollum, the more strange he felt.

First of all, Gollum said “we” without opening or closing his mouth, and then his face remained calm all the time, and finally, he actually said, he once had a name, Smeago?

“I said, Gollum, are you sure you’re not crazy?” Carl asked, looking at the “abnormal” Gollum.

“Of course, I’m not crazy,” said Gollum.

After that, looking at the surprised Carl, he seemed to be worried that he would not believe it, and added: “I understand what you are worried about, I…I was indeed bewitched by the Lord of the Rings, and lost my mind about it.”

“However, it was you who rescued me and restored my will. Now, the darkness has faded from my mind, and the evil Gollum no longer exists. All of this is your credit.”

Saying that, Gollum, or Smeagol suddenly knelt down, knocked his head on the ground, and cried out:

“Carl, my greatest benefactor, please forgive me for the mistakes I have made against you, and I hope you can forgive me for the betrayal I once had. For this reason, I am willing to put down everything and be your most faithful servant.”

Carl looked at the serious “Gollum”, the original indifference on his face disappeared, he frowned, thinking.

Gollum escaped the control of the Lord of the Rings? And you still want him to be the master? All this was a little too sudden.

You know, in the original timeline, Gulu has never given up his attachment and thoughts to the Supreme Lord of the Rings, and it can even be said that he is crazy like a madman.

Didn’t his previous attempts also prove that Gollum was no longer teachable?

However, now when he was about to kill him, he suddenly said, he understood?

This is really a bit of a surprise.

Think about it.

“Guru, I can accept your allegiance, but I want you to swear that if you betray again, your soul will fall into the most painful abyss and suffer forever,” Carl said.

Of course he will give him a chance, but he will not let his guard down.

Just as all vows are bullshit and all promises are jokes, Carl certainly couldn’t change his opinion of him with Gollum’s words.

Unless, when he really shows his worth, with actions to prove his words and will, Carl will believe.

Carl finally spared Gollum. He wanted to see if this unrecognizable Hobbit, who had been eroded by the Lord of the Rings, could really escape the shadow of the Lord of the Rings.

“Thank you, thank you.” Gollum looked at Carl, excited.

His restless heart seemed to have finally found a home and settled down.

No matter what it was in the past, now, he only serves one person.

“Then let’s go, first thing, get those kids out,” Carl said.

He had already seen from Gollum’s performance that the Lord of the Rings was no longer here.

Therefore, rescuing the child is their only task now.

“Yes! My master.” Gulu said respectfully, and then subconsciously licked his mouth, a trace of inexplicable cruelty flashed in his eyes.

Although his consciousness has been restored, his instincts have been developed, his appearance cannot be changed, and his habits are a little difficult to describe. Gulu doesn’t know now whether he should be Gulu or Smeago.

Or, a mix of the two.

Carl glanced at Gulu, but didn’t say much, any conspiracy and tricks were in vain in the face of absolute power, and he was not worried that Gulu would betray him.

When Carl reunited with Thorin, he found that they had a dozen children behind them.

The children looked a little dumbfounded, and only under the urging and pulling of the dwarf could they keep walking forward.

“What happened to them?” Carl asked.

“Damn, those orcs made them suffer in ways they shouldn’t have,” Thorin explained. Perhaps, everything encountered here will bring them a lifetime of shadows.

Carl understood, no more words, and led the crowd to the cave.

However, Thorin noticed the grey thing following Carl, wasn’t that the one who had just made him angry?

“Carl, what’s going on?” Thorin frowned.

“Don’t worry, I’ll explain to you when I go back,” Carl said.

Helpless, Thorin and the dwarves had no choice but to keep running forward. Gandalf took a look at Gollum when he had time. He always felt that something very related to him had happened to this strange creature.

But what is that?

Of course, Gandalf would never have known that the thing he had been looking for—the Lord of the Rings, once considered strange by him, was always on his body.

Everyone ran forward, the light of the cave gradually came, and when they walked out of the cave, the air suddenly became fresh, and the suppressed bloody smell was also withdrawn.

The Orcs in the cave had already been slaughtered by them, but they still did not dare to take it lightly.

Because the Misty Mountains is not just such an Orc den.

“Woo~” A wolf howl suddenly came from the top of the mountain…

Everyone’s face changed slightly:

“Go!”*
