Chapter 21: Magical Melons (II)

Compared with the lively forum, Ji Yu, the star of the show, was much calmer.

He didn't take part in the big Beta & Omega celebration that he set off with his own hands, but instead was at home—

Trying hard to coax his child.

A problem that he brought upon himself.

Little Yu Zhou is now eight months old, and, although he can't quite speak yet, he can already understand a little bit.

Ji Yu is planning on going to the doctor this Saturday for a series of physical examinations, in preparation for his mark-removal, so he wants to bring Little Yu Zhou along to see how the baby’s pheromone deficiency is recovering.

In order to prepare the child for the checkup, Ji Yu had repeated the words “injection” and “take medicine” to Little Yu Zhou several times. In addition, he felt it was better to demonstrate the process of getting a shot, and ends up poking Little Yu Zhou’s arm twice.

Originally, Ji Yu just wanted to tease the baby. However, not only did Little Yu Zhou cry, but he was so frightened that he refused to eat dinner.

After all, Little Yu Zhou has to go to the hospital every month for vaccinations, etc. How can he not understand Ji Yu's actions?

"My fault, my fault, don't be sad."

Ji Yu carried Little Yu Zhou from the living room to the bedroom, while gently rocking and patting him on the back. Unfortunately, the little one still looked very pitiful.

After coaxing for a long time to no avail, Ji Yu finally decided to admit defeat.

He raised his head and called for help, "Sister Chen—"

The nanny came out of the kitchen with a smile: "I told you not to tease him!”

"I was wrong."

Ji Yu put Little Yu Zhou into the nanny’s arms, and mumbled softly, "I’ll try again next time."

The nanny abruptly chuckled.

After half a month of getting along, she and Ji Yu have got to know each other a lot. They have become friends, and sometimes even joked around, very harmoniously.

Ji Yu handed over the teary little bundle without any guilt.

When his hand was empty, the thought of teasing Little Yu Zhou came out again. However, before he could open his mouth, he saw Little Yu Zhou grinned, leaned against the nanny’s shoulders with crooked eyebrows, and smiled at him.

The small pair of eyes are quickly turning, looking very clever.

Where is all that pitiful look a moment ago?

Ji Yu was amused: "Hey, were you pretending just now?”

He laughed, stretched out a finger and tapped the tip of Little Yu Zhou’s nose, "Little liar, who did you learn that from, eh? Are you still going to pretend to be pitiful?"

The little bundle was also amused and started laughing, bouncing up and down in the nanny’s arms.

When Little Yu Zhou was carried to have dinner, Ji Yu smiled and started thinking about his future plans.

The past two days have been a lot of hard works, and his energy has been a bit overdrawn.

He doesn't want to read books or study anymore. He lazily nestles on the sofa with a notebook and a pen, and casually doodles.

Since the things with the exam are done, let them ferment.

Ji Yu didn't have any worry in his heart, and he didn't bother to read those crazy things on the forum.

Whether it’s about school or society in general, they all obey the same rule.

When you are weak, you will be surrounded by enemies and bad people. When you become strong, you will be surrounded by goodwill and people trying to be your friend.

But, with just one test, already so many people have changed their faces.

Ji Yu chuckled and shook his head.

After figuring out what to do next, Ji Yu decided to call Xie Yu Xing and wanted to ask him to go out together on Saturday.

He didn't expect that the person who answered the phone was not Xie Yu Xing, but a deep and magnetic voice of a mature man.

He had never heard this voice, nor had Xie Yu Xing mentioned such a person.

Ji Yu was stunned: "Who are you?"

"Are you looking for him?"

Ji Yu’s ears were sensitive, and he noticed that the other party was breathing a little ragged.

He subconsciously glanced at the clock on the wall: nine-thirty in the evening.

This was a time that could be considered ambiguous.

He thought about it and said, "It's nothing, I just wanted to invite him out to play tomorrow."

There was a rustled on the phone.

The sound was not loud, it seemed like the phone fell onto something soft, like a bed or a couch, and then a vague, “Your friend.”

Soon, the phone was picked up by the owner: "Hello, Ji Yu?"

Xie Yu Xing's voice was loud and lively, crisp and neat.

Ji Yu breathed a sigh of relief, and at the same time, scolded himself for having his head in the gutter.

"Tomorrow, I will go to the hospital with Little Yu Zhou for a checkup. Do you want to go together?"

Xie Yu Xing: "There's something going on at home these two days, and I can't leave."

"Ah, do you want me come over and help?"

"No, no, I can handle it."

Ji Yu nodded: "That's fine, you just take care of your business, I'll take him alone."

Hanging up the phone, Ji Yu looked at the only number saved on the phone, and suddenly felt a little melancholy.

In the past, he had many friends.

Everyday, after he was done with studying, if he wanted to go play ball, or go shopping at the mall, all he has to do is just send out a text in his group chat, and everyone will know and come to him. Unlike now—

Now, he only has Xie Yu Xing.

In fact, Ji Yu and Xie Yu Xing are not particularly familiar with each other. There is not much interaction between them except for when going to and from school together.

As for all the things that Xie Yu Xing had said, he still couldn't figure out if they were the true or not.

Ji Yu bent his legs on the sofa, and looked out the window with the taste of loneliness.

Soon, however, he was no longer alone, because the little Yu Zhou had already finished dinner and came to play with him.

Ji Yu laughed, hugged Little Yu Zhou on the shoulders, and sighed, "Thank you."

"Ah~" Little Yu Zhou touched Ji Yu's face, pinched and squeeze.

After he was finished, he leaned back a little, his big eyes looked at Ji Yu brightly. The child’s eyes suddenly turned, and he smiled sweetly.

The corners of Ji Yu’s lips rose unconsciously, and his heart seemed to be filled with something warm.

Ji Yu thought to himself: Ah, I am alive again.

TN:

1- In Chinese, “melon” refers to juicy gossips. “Eating melons” refers to watching the gossips/drama unfolds.

2- 全年级统一的考试: literally means ‘the annual exam that the entire grade takes.’ Similar to that of  our standardize testing.

3- 爽!彻!心!扉!: lit. thoroughly heart cleansing (very refreshing). The author punctuated after every character to express emphasis (Clear! Thorough! Heart! Door!). Replaced with English equivalent.

4- 牛死 (dead bull): refers to an unyielding/stubborn personally (I think). In English, a horse is typically representative of unyieldingness.

5- 大快人心: lit. ‘great joy in man’s heart’. Refers to when a bad guy is punished, and satisfaction from a sense of justice.

6- 你牛 (you ox): Lit. calling somebody an ox. Supposedly a slang (sarcastic?) to praise someone for being awesome/strong, “strong as an ox” or something like that.

Lyrus: That's the end of the light-hearted campus rom-com. From this moment on, the real drama unfolds, so get ready. Also, I took some liberties with the name of the chapter bc the original name kinda fell short in English, so I think this fits better.
