35 – Ways to Make Money (3)

Kang Cheolsu kept every word he had said and the promise he made with me.

Tear apart the limbs of the corrupted cultist without killing him.

But ironically, that promise was making the corrupted cultist even more agonized.

“Please, please just kill me…!”

“Well, I also want to smash your head right now, but I have a disciple’s request.”

Saying that, Kang Cheolsu took out a recovery potion from the dimensional ring.

“No, don’t…!”

The corrupted cultist reacted violently, like a child who didn’t want to get a shot.

However, with only his torso remaining like a tteokbokki, he had no way to resist.

“No, no…, gurgle…!”

Eventually, the curative potion was forced into his mouth.

Gulp, gulp.

With each passage of the potion down his throat, the area where the corrupted devotee’s limbs had been began to heal.

In proportion to that, his face became saturated with despair, pain, rage, and various negative emotions.

Witnessing this, I realized that the reason he begged for death wasn’t because his limbs were torn apart, but because of the potion.

A potion that, despite the agony of limbs being torn apart, managed to open a mouth that had been tightly sealed shut.

…This potion in this world is truly terrifying!

‘By the way…, is it because my mental strength has increased?’

Even when faced with the sight of someone whose limbs were disintegrating, I felt no unease.

I distinctly remember that before the possession, I couldn’t bear to watch brutal scenes in movies.

But now, it’s different…, the pungent smell of blood might make my face grimace, but there’s no queasiness, no difficulty in watching.

It’s as if I’m looking at a mannequin.

‘Could it be that I’ve become a psychopath?’

With that thought, I recalled the horror and thriller movies I had seen so far.

And the moment in the movies where someone is being murdered by a killer.

‘Ah, this is a bit…’

My stomach churned instantly.

Then, I saw the corrupted devotee undergoing the potion torture again.

As if asking when did it become nauseating, my stomach eased.

‘Ah… Is this how it is?’

It wasn’t that my mental strength had increased, it was that, consciously or unconsciously, I never considered him a human being in the first place.

I was treating him as nothing more than garbage that needed to be eliminated from this world, just like steel scrap.

As I organized these thoughts, my once chaotic mind, like throwing a stone into a lake, became calm in an instant.

‘I worried for nothing.’

Feeling reassured that I hadn’t lost my humanity, I approached the corrupted devotee.

Then, the gaze of the one who had been looking at the steel scrap turned towards me.

“…Please, kill me…”

Perhaps the potion’s effects were excruciatingly painful, as the voice pleading for death became even more desperate.

In front of that guy, I squatted down with a smile and spoke.

“Do you want to die?”

“…Kill me….”

Unlike Kang Cheol-soo, when I responded, a faint glimmer of hope lit up in his eyes.

Hope that he wouldn’t have to endure any more pain.

“Alright. I’ll kill you.”

“…!”

“But, I’ll only do it if you tell me one thing.”

However, there is always a price to pay to fulfill hope.

So, speak.

The fallen one you worship.

Since when has greed been active?

&

Perhaps it was because of the unknown behind-the-scenes in the game.

The information spilled by the corrupted worshipper was surprisingly useful.

The first revelation was about the named fallen one who had been influencing the academy from the early stages of the story, known as ‘Greed.’

The second was discovering that they had contacted the corrupted worshipper a month ago and that ‘Greed’ had given orders through the symbol of corruption.

The third was finding out that during the busy entrance exam at the academy, they had connected the simulated crack and the dual crack.

Having uncovered these three pieces of information, I had seen enough and left.

Though the corrupted worshipper desperately called out from behind, “You have to kill me and go somewhere!”

I had nothing more to see from the corrupted worshipper, and I hadn’t directly promised to kill him.

He could misconstrue the information as he pleased.

And I hadn’t lied.

He would die as he wished.

After Kang Cheol-soo had vented his anger,

I asked the instructor to take care of things and headed to the ‘Production Department.’

Now that I had money, there was no need for rubber bullets.

So, I planned to meet the instructor in charge of the Production Department, as Kang Cheol-soo had mentioned last time, and entrust him with the request to make live ammunition.

Of course, since I could rest tomorrow, I didn’t need to handle everything today.

But since I had already taken action, it was better to finish everything and take a break, even if it made me a bit busier.

With that thought in mind, I followed the directions on the building’s guide and ended up at a factory that was not at all shabby like the supply department.

And there, as the name suggests, was the production department.

Clink, clank, clank.

Vroom, vroom, vroom!

It was extremely noisy.

“Hey, be careful over there!”

“Hey, bring the impact! …No, not a regular impact, bring the impact wrench!”

“Whoever made this thing, the screws aren’t tightened properly!”

They were working busily.

In such a harsh environment, I couldn’t dare enter the factory.

And I couldn’t possibly grab someone and ask them either.

As I was contemplating what to do outside the factory.

“… What are you doing standing there?”

A husky voice of a woman came from behind me.

I turned around to check.

“What’s up with you? You look like a first-year student in a school uniform, why aren’t you in class?”

A woman with a cheeky posture and chewing gum was looking at me.

Her appearance was like… looking at a lion.

Yellow eyes and yellow hair.

Even the hair was coarse and lush like a lion’s mane.

And judging from the menacing production pouch that couldn’t be hidden even in work clothes.

There was no doubt that she was the production department’s assigned supervisor that Kang Cheol-soo had mentioned.

Still, just to make sure, I called out to her.

“Excuse me… Are you the assigned supervisor of the production department?”

“Uh, yeah. Who are you?”

Sure enough, she was the production supervisor.

“Hello, Supervisor. I am Lee Yoo-jin from Class 1-A.”

“…Yoo-jin?”

As soon as she heard my introduction, the production supervisor stared at me wide-eyed, taking the gum out of her mouth.

And then she just blurted out.

“The gun?”

“Yes?”

“Where’s the gun?”

I was searching for the gun.

I was somewhat flustered by this, but I retrieved the handgun, ‘Holy Gun,’ from my inventory and showed it.

At that, the instructor chuckled as if amused and said, “Is this kid really going to shoot?”

As Kang Cheol-soo had mentioned, her eyes alternated between the gun and me, sparkling with interest in firearms.

“You came because of the live ammunition, didn’t you?”

I nodded at her words.

“Kang Cheol-soo said Instructor Jejak can guide you…”

“Oh, right. You found me well. So, follow me.”

The instructor tapped my shoulder like a bear’s paw and walked into the factory.

It felt like a conversation was happening yet not quite happening.

Almost like observing a master with an eccentric personality.

With that thought, I followed her.

“Instructor, have you arrived!”

“Instructor, good morning!”

“Everyone! The instructor is here! Come and greet!”

At someone’s shout, everyone who had been working fervently stopped and rushed over.

Forming lines on either side of the instructor as she walked in front of me, they bent their waists and exclaimed in unison.

“”Instructor, have you arrived!””

…Did I come to the wrong place?

This is clearly the production department.

Why does it feel like I’m seeing gangsters?

Whether I thought so or not, the production team members briskly saluted the instructor and then dashed back to resume their halted tasks.

Such a noir-like spectacle continued until the instructor and I entered what seemed like her private workshop with a metallic click.

Inside, the enthusiastic greetings from the production team… no, the members of her unit, ceased to be heard.

“They seem quite disciplined, don’t they?”

“Ah, yes. Quite impressive.”

Satisfied with my response, the instructor chuckled and took a bite of his sandwich.

Then, he extended his hand towards me.

“…?”

In a moment of confusion, I hesitated before cautiously reaching for my gun.

As I did so, the instructor, seemingly pleased with my choice, accepted the gun and examined it from different angles, scrutinizing it closely.

After a brief moment of inspection, the instructor took a deep drag from his sandwich.

“Phew…”

Exhaling into the air, he placed the sandwich on the workbench.

Then, with a sense of wonder, he remarked while looking at the gun.

“This gun, it’s not just a firearm; it’s an item, isn’t it?”

“Ah, yes. It’s an item. Is there any issue with that…?”

“No, no issue. It’s just that it’s been a while since I’ve seen an item of the gun type.”

Perplexed, I looked at the instructor with a quizzical expression.

The instructor, now a craftsman, hadn’t seen gun-type items for a long time?

Could it be that in this world, items are more focused on cold weapons, and there aren’t many firearm-related items?

As I pondered this, the instructor nodded in agreement.

“That’s right, just as you’re thinking. Items of the gun type—or more precisely, items related to firearms—are quite rare.”

“…Ah, did it show on my face?”

“Oh, you really need to work on your facial expressions. Your thoughts are too transparent.”

With these words, the instructor handed the gun back to me.

“Anyway, did you come here because of bullet crafting?”

“Yes, that’s the reason for my visit.”

“Alright, just wait a moment.”

Once again, he took a bite of his sandwich, retrieved something from under the workbench, and placed it in front of me.

It was a box similar to an ammunition box, but it seemed to contain nothing.

“Excuse me, instructor. There doesn’t seem to be anything inside.”

I inquired, puzzled.

“It’ll appear soon enough.”

The instructor closed the ammunition box he had opened.

Then…, with a playful tap of the ammo box using the bear paw he had been holding in his mouth.

“All right, that’s it.”

Suddenly declaring it was done, he opened the ammunition box again.

And what I saw with my own eyes was…

“No, what the…”

The box was filled with live rounds.
