14. I don’t read romance!

If there is one law that applies to magic, it is the Law of Equivalent Exchange.

A power that can literally cause miracles, as long as the amount of mana is sufficient, can make even the impossible a reality. That’s why some people refer to magic as proof that humans can turn into gods.

Of course, such a claim did not receive much response due to the power of divine power handled by the priests of the church.

If mana is a necessary material for implementing magic, imagery is the process of processing that material, and will can be seen as determining the quality of the result.

For example, if I want to open a barrier that hides a certain area from others’ eyes with magic, the larger I set the area, the more magic power I will consume. In addition to that, it consumes additional mana to make it not easily detectable.

If you want to cause an earthquake that will devour a city, you will need an enormous amount of mana.

Return the time of the entire world to how many years ago, while maintaining consciousness as Adele experienced? Even the magical power of an adult dragon would not be enough.

If you want to interfere with the human mind with magic, you also need an incredibly large amount of mana. Maybe it’s because the human brain isn’t usually a complex organ.

“You have a slightly unexpected taste.”

It was Adele’s voice filled with light laughter that woke me up from thinking while pretending to read a book I had roughly picked up.

“What is that?”

“Romance… I never thought you would read a novel…”

Looking at the cover, I felt sorry for those words.

[For my Amethyst]

Honestly, who would have known that a book I picked up without thinking would be a romance novel. The genre of romance has never been read as a novel in the first place. At least, I only watched movies like ‘About Time’ and ‘The Notebook’, and I hadn’t even seen the famous ‘Titanic’, so I said everything.

“This is a misunderstanding…”

“The more you look at it, the cuter it is, really…”

“…Yes?”

For a moment, I wondered if I had heard it wrong, so I asked again.

“Hmm? What’s wrong?”

“Didn’t you just say something to me?”

“No?”

I decided to skip it for now, wondering if I had misunderstood Adele’s natural and virtuous response. I must have said something, but it was so small I couldn’t hear it properly.

“Anyway, this is really a misunderstanding. In the first place, I was just pretending to read…”

“I see…”

From all angles, it was clear that he did not believe me. This is really embarrassing

She let out a sigh of resignation and glanced at the watch on her wrist.

7:50 P.M. There are still 2 hours and 10 minutes until the library closes.

“Even if I look at the Amman watch again and again and sigh, time does not pass faster.”

She was moved by Adele’s words for no reason, and when she glared at her, she caught her eyes as she stuck out her tongue, as if she had been waiting for her.

“You are childish.”

“If there is a complaint, Luke, like me, suddenly returns to his younger body after a few years. Along with the body, the mind becomes younger too?”

“Ha. Yes, I should not speak.”

Since my head hurts for no reason, I close my eyes and rub my forehead with my fingers. There’s no way the headache I’ve been looking for will go away anyway, but I thought I wouldn’t be able to come to my senses if I didn’t.

“Luke… Are you mad again?”

“No, did you get mad again? When did I get mad…!”

The moment I opened my eyes and tried to retort, the words that had come out of my throat went down again. I don’t know where she took out the hair tie while her eyes were closed for that moment, but it was because I saw Adele tying her long wavy hair together and tying it back.

It may have been a matter of course that my gaze was directed at her neckline revealed in the process, just as if there is a cause, there is a result. Glad she had her eyes closed. She probably didn’t see me with her bewildered face.

“…I’m not spooked.”

I took a deep breath to calm my mind, which had become complicated in many ways. Adele then narrows her eyes and smiles broadly.

“Huh… I see. I guess that’s what it is.”

“…”

“Just staring at me without saying anything makes me feel like I’ve done something really bad…”

Ignoring Adele’s complaints lightly, I put down [For My Amethyst] In her hand, then picked up one of the other books piled up next to her and opened it. At that moment, it was my mistake, if anything, that she didn’t see her eyes crooked like half moons.

“[An obsessive tyrant is not attractive] Is not bad for a light read. There are rumors that the whereabouts of the author who wrote them are unknown, but…”

“Ah.”

I don’t really read romance.

2.

Cook- Cook-

I immediately frown at the feeling of stabbing my cheek. Why the hell won’t the world leave me alone? Is it such a big greed to want to live peacefully without having a short life?

Whoop-

At that moment, I got goosebumps all over my body from the breath someone had blown into my ear.

“Get some sleep and wake up, Luke! Sleeping in that position is not good for the body.”

“Oh, Adele?”

As she turns her head, which has sprung up like her spring, to her side, she sees Adele, who was watching me with her hands clasped behind her back and her head sticking out. It was dark everywhere around her, so she first used her magic to create a small sphere-shaped light source and floated it next to her. Adapted to the darkness around her, Adele squints as light suddenly enters her eyes.

As soon as I finished grasping the situation, I let out a sigh. No matter how much I have developed to the point where I can say that she and I are comfortable, it is completely unacceptable as a noble to see her sleeping face down on a table in the library.

I was really ashamed and wanted to die.

Adele, who didn’t even know what I was thinking, answered my words, blinking her eyes over and over again to adjust to the light.

“Then who else is it besides me?”

“How long have I been sleeping?”

“Well? It must have been about three hours…? Anyway, now is not the time to be like this. It’s already been an hour since the library closed, so you better move soon.”

“Oh, sorry. It’s not like I’m late for no reason, right?”

“Stop worrying about that and get up quickly. If it had been a problem, I would have woken it up with a pinch on the cheek.”

After hearing my words, Adele burst into a bright smile and said,

“So, how do I get into that library?”

Asked Adele, raising her body. When she checked the table with a sidelong glance, the novels she had been pretending to read had already disappeared. Maybe Adele put it back where she was while I slept.

“I know when I see it.”

Having said that, Adele started to lead in the direction of the stairs leading down to her first floor. Her gait, our regressor, was so imposing, I decided to just follow her in silence.

“Ah!”

As she descended the stairs, she exclaimed as if Adele had suddenly remembered something about her. Her voice sounded a bit embarrassed.

“Why is that?”

“I didn’t bring anything to cover her face just in case…”

When she sees Adele answering awkwardly while scratching her cheek, she bursts out laughing. I felt like an idiot, even for a moment, for considering such a careless regressor as someone I could trust.

“Wait a minute.”

After taking out the handkerchief she always carries in the pocket of her jacket, she uses her magic power to change its shape. In the blink of an eye, the handkerchief had turned into a mask just the right size for Adele. The red roses embroidered on her handkerchief were spread all over the mask, giving it a splendid appearance that could only be used at a masquerade ball.

“Okay, take it.”

Adele, who was handed her mask, observed it for a while, then put it on her face and said.

“It’s so fancy… The mask I wore was just plain black. Can you change the color of this?”

“Adele… I’m sorry I didn’t tell you earlier, but isn’t the costume you’re wearing right now a bigger problem than that mask?”

Her face stiffened as Adele lowered her gaze at her words and checked her own dress. Looking at her wandering eyes, lost in where to go, she couldn’t figure out which of the two was the returner and who was just a helper.

“Ah. That, that’s right How did I make this mistake… I’m really, really sorry, but can I just give up and leave today…?”

As I watch Adele, her cheeks burning from her shame, speak to me with her eyes glazed over, her sigh escapes. It wasn’t that she was wasting her time or anything. She could say that spending time with Adele was a pleasure that had recently become part of my daily life.

I was just worried about her.

Adele showed her mental instability from time to time, but she was worried that she might make a bigger mistake.

“No, the illusion magic can make you look like you’re wearing plain black clothes, so you don’t have to.”

“I’m sorry…”

“If you know, please take good care of me so that I will not be publicly executed in a week.”

I don’t know exactly what the shape of my mouth was like right after she said that, but Adele was smiling faintly, judging from the fact that Adele gave her a light laugh and nodded her head. Maybe

After hiding Adele’s clothes with her illusion magic and making a mask for myself, Adele led me to the center of the first floor.

A stone statue honoring the 12th emperor was erected in the center of the first floor of the library. Standing in front of a stone statue that is in a similar posture to the Statue of Liberty that vaguely lingers in her memory, Adele stretches out her hand.

Even if Adele couldn’t find the jewel embedded in the center of the book inserted into the side of the statue, the stone platform on which the statue was placed began to move backwards in its entirety after spinning it five times.

Then, what is revealed is a long spiral staircase leading underground. It’s so standard that it feels rather awkward.

“Security seems… A bit lax?”

“Unlike the imperial treasury, this is just a library after all. Of course, the books hidden inside are of great historical value, but they are not as well-preserved as the real collection of treasures. Isn’t the fact that you’re not inside the imperial palace in the first place proof of that?”

“I guess he does too.”

After making the light source that was floating next to it a little brighter, I went ahead and lit it.

“Please be careful when coming down.”

Speaking in a whisper, Adele follows the slow-moving light source. Who the hell is looking at whom to be careful…

This one-night deviation, which was in a precarious situation from the start due to someone’s carelessness, still had a long way to go.
