Hero's Carnage

Chapter 26: Independent Guilds

Lucas stood before the bulletin board with the public dungeons, but he was unable to find any public dungeons near him that had monsters around level 20.

"I could go to a private dungeon, but I am trying to make a profit now that I am strong enough. Even with the exploit that allows me to kill monsters without affecting the kill count device, I won't be able to use the method too often because of its high mana requirement…"

Although he could definitely make an earning using the Devastate exploit, it was too slow, and he could earn much more just by killing low-leveled monsters in public Novice-rank dungeons.

'Should I just go ahead and join a guild?' Lucas suddenly had this idea.

If he joined a guild, he will be allowed to enter dungeons provided by these guilds for free. In fact, this was the most profitable path.

However, there was a single problem with joining a guild, and that problem was that he'd need to be around other people.

Due to his background, Lucas isn't the social type, and he preferred to be alone unless he absolutely needed to pair up with others.

Furthermore, despite his overwhelming combat prowess that didn't match his level, his actual level is still relatively low, not to mention his guild rank. It would be difficult for him to find a guild that will accept someone like him.

Of course, he could join a low-leveled guild that will accept him, but he wanted to enter intermediate-rank dungeons, and low-leveled guilds would never enter them.

'Even if there's a good chance that I won't be accepted… If I don't try, I definitely won't have even the slightest chance to join a guild!'

With that in mind, Lucas made his way to a guild staff and asked, "I would like to join a guild. Where can I go to join one?"

"A guild… as in an independent guild?" The worker then pointed at the bulletin board on the other side of the room and said, "That contains all independent guild advertisements for this city. If you want to join a guild in another city, you will have to head to the guild headquarters in this city."

"I understand." Lucas nodded and made his way to the long and wide bulletin board.

Unlike the main guild that is funded and supported by the government, independent guilds are created and funded by the Players themselves. They are essentially a large party— a family of sorts.

Once he reached the bulletin board, Lucas began screening the dozens of papers posted on there.

[Red Wolves Gang… D-Rank Guild… Level 30 or above… Weekly dungeons… Located at Scorpio District...]

[Elite Monster Slayers… B-Rank Guild… Level 60 or above… Daily dungeons... Examination required before joining. Located at Libra District.]

[Dark Wizards… C-Rank Guild… No requirements… Monthly dungeons.]

[Ancient Warriors… E-Rank Guild… No requirements… Weekly dungeons.]

After spending almost half an hour reading through all of the advertisements carefully, Lucas found the perfect guild.

[Boundless Desires… C-Rank Guild… No level requirements… Examinations are required before joining… Weekly dungeons… Leo District.]

The guild not only had no level requirements but they were also located within his district. Furthermore, they enter dungeons weekly, which should be more than enough for Lucas to earn a profit.

After noting down the location of the independent guild, Lucas left the guild and called a taxi.

Once he paid the expensive fee, the taxi driver began making his way towards Leo District.

About four hours later, they arrived at Leo District.

Lucas didn't immediately visit the Boundless Desires and returned to the main guild to rest for the day.

'That's the weird newbie… It's been a while since he last visited…' Melody quickly recognized Lucas due to his incident with Darius' team, and she could tell that he'd grown a lot stronger since then from his aura.

"I'd like to rent a room for a day." Lucas subconsciously approached Melody since he was used to seeing her face in this guild.

"That'd be 25 dollars," she said.

After paying the fee, Lucas retired inside his room for the rest of the day.

The following morning, after getting some quick breakfast, Lucas took a taxi to the Boundless Desires' headquarters.

'This place is larger than I'd expected…' Lucas stood before a large rectangle building that looked more like a store than anything.

After entering the building, Lucas walked straight towards the reception desk and spoke with the young man standing behind it.

"I'd like to the guild," he said to the young man.

"I understand. Please fill out this paper for now. We'll give you a brief interview before the examination." The young man said to him.

Lucas took the paper and started filling it out that only asked for basic questions such as his name and his level, how much experience he has in dungeons, and why he wanted to join their guild.

Surprisingly, they didn't ask for information about his character status and skills.

Once he was done, he returned the paper to the young man.

"Thank you. Please take a seat over there and wait for your turn." The young man pointed to a room across the hall.

Lucas made his way to the room, where over a dozen people were sitting in a long row of seats, all of them waiting for their interview, feeling like he was hunting for a job— not that he has any experience.

Lucas then took a seat at the end and patiently waited for his turn.

About an hour later, a middle-aged man came out of a room and called his name.

"Lucas."

"I am here." Lucas stood up and proceeded to follow the middle-aged man into a small room to start his interview.
