Chapter 156 - Gems?

‘Oh man, he has a good ear.’

Ella had a lot of problems in her hands and was getting a headache, so she swallowed her sigh at Vylun’s question, which he asked after catching her quietly speaking.

“I’m just saying that because the colored gems are only produced by Toiken. Only Toiken had benefited when the emerald was first introduced to the continent. It wasn’t only that, it was the same with the ruby.”

When the colored gems were introduced, the continent went nuts for them. All that money went straight into Toiken’s pocket. That was very likely the case this time as well. Ella just made that up as an excuse, but saying that out loud made her realize that fact, and she became bitter.

Vylun, too, seemed to feel the same way and frowned. “That’s true.”

“It’s not the first time they released it after establishing their trading network. It has to be different this time, but it’s not easy.”

Ella glared at the shiny quartz inside the ore as she began to think. But she couldn’t think of any answer. ‘Is there any better idea with this?’

“Can’t our craftsmen work on this?” asked Ella.

“Maddison tried that again and failed. It seems the current techniques didn’t work on it. They didn’t even know the inside of this ore looked like this and kept it precisely as it is.”

“You saw that and dragged all this over?” questioned Vylun. He appeared shocked as he looked at Luide.

But Luide made a proud-looking expression, glanced at Ella, and nodded, “Well, I heard from milady that it wouldn’t break with that kind of treatment. But the people at Maddison don’t really seem to know a thing about it. When I began dragging it out, they almost went crazy. Hahaha. It was fun.”

“Is it that durable?” asked Vylun.

“Do you want to take a look?”

Luide got up, grabbed a fairly large ore, and threw it down on the floor. The amethyst ore made a loud thumping sound as it was thrown, leaving a huge dent on the floor before it bounced and flew toward the corner of the office.

Ella then brought the sliced ore back in front of her and commented, “They probably didn’t know that the ore had these small gemstones inside and paid for it by the size of the ore. Even that’s going to be much cheaper than the actual jewelry made from this, but they still overpaid.”

“And since you bought it from them, wouldn’t that mean you also purchased it at a loss too?” asked Vylun.

Ella smiled confidently. Although she looked like a noble lady, she was a veteran business owner with years of experience on the inside. After starting as a patisserie, she grew to be a successful CEO and became famous on TV shows. There was no way Ranhee would ever buy something at a loss.

“Toiken warned that they wouldn’t be able to craft it into jewels if the merchant company tried to cut it on their own. They probably planned on selling the master jewelry craftsman as well.”

Vylun then realized when Ella had asked Luide about the whereabouts of the craftsmen. ‘So that’s who she asked about.’

Stealing jewelry craftsmen smuggled from Toiken. Vylun was astonished by Ella’s higher than expected eagerness for work. But she smiled at him as if she was telling him there was still more.

“But we’re different from Maddison, who has no clue on what to do with these ores. We know how it looks inside, and we have jewelry craftsmen on our side. But I’m concerned that we might not get as much profit as I expected because we can’t get it out to the market on time. The merchant company that worked with Maddison probably calculated this and finally sent craftsmen.”
