Why did Pope Kronad want to construct the mythical temple Evangel to fight against the gods?

If one pondered about it deeply, they would find it strange. One would think that they would have opted to create a powerful weapon, or a strong skill if they wanted to fight against the gods. However, Pope Kronad, the paladins, saintesses and priests that joined him in his cause all decided to create the Temple Evangel.
