Game’s Dogma

Chapter 178: Drako Yau’s Decision

Defensive structures could be built in bases, such as watchtowers which automatically attack enemy players within range and toxic swamps which inflict poison on trespassing enemy players.

The guild on defence had a clear advantage over the attacking guild because they could lie in wait and utilise defensive structures to defend their base. For such reasons, even if the guild that initiated Base Assault had an overwhelming advantage over the opposition, there was bound to be terrible casualties. Achieving victory at such a great cost—this was what made Base Assault a lose-lose situation where no one truly came out on top.

All that for just three skill books? It was completely not worth it.

However, Moonless Night’s motive wasn’t about the skill books—at least not deep down. It was about losing face… and fear.

Back on Mount Soughslit, Mask had single-handedly fought against almost ten of them. Moonless Night had always believed he was special because of his hidden class, but he was easily toyed around when up against Mask. He only survived the deadly battle by constantly retreating and using his guildmates as meat shields.

Fear and terror—Moonless Night hated such feelings.

Mask had already turned into his stumbling block, a barrier. To wipe away his fear, he had to wipe away the source of his fear.

He had to make Mask disappear.

Unlike before, everyone now knew Mask was the one behind Howl of the Tempest Wolves. Mask simply couldn’t give up all he had worked for so easily.

The next day. One after another, shocking news stunned the players who just woke up and logged into the game.

The first was Dark World announcing that they were leaving Empyreon and transferring over Yoda in great style.

Dark World, since its creation, had been based in Empyreon. Their base was fairly high-levelled and had all the structures and facilities you’d expect in a first-rate guild. Guild bases also had levels; higher levels granted more Health to the bronze statue which represented the base and unlocked more facilities. Dark World must have invested at least several hundred thousand gold coins into their base, yet they were abandoning it and moving over to another city?

It didn’t take long before Dark World dropped another bombshell. They announced that they’d initiate Base Assault on Howl of the Tempest Wolves once their transfer was complete!

At the same time, Moonless Night posted a video onto the official forum with his account. The video lasted only two seconds, but it clearly showed the moment the man with a fiery red mask died and turned into white light.

Faking the video was impossible. From his equipment, his spear, to his iconic Mask of the Hidden Dragon, it was clear that the person was the ever-victorious guardian of Yoda—Mask.

Players had already sensed the hostility between both guilds back when Dark World challenged Howl of the Tempest Wolves to a guild war. This time around, the bomb between them finally blew up, lit by a tiny spark.

Many players doubted the video though. Mask was mysterious and powerful; he could hold his ground in splendour even during The Siege. Some of Mask’s supporters even called the video fake and refused to believe it. However, the clear-minded all knew why the video was so short—who knew how many players was he up against? What if he was up against ten, or even a hundred?

Mask’s hundred-win streak video was more commonly known as ‘Dragon’s Weapon—Guide to Wielding Spears’. The game officials even pinned the post on the forum. Like him or not, everyone couldn’t refute the fact that he was absolutely strong.

Moonless Night was also fairly well-known, but was he really strong enough to defeat Mask? Many asked him to post the full video and spammed the post, all of which were ignored. No one could see him flushing red in rage and shame while scrolling through the post though.

Killing Mask in a duel? Moonless Night couldn’t do it even if he fought Mask together with his clone. Of course he wasn’t going to post the full video online, but that only brought him more humiliation than anything, further deepening his hatred against Mask. He yelled at his guild members and urged them to finish transferring quickly.

In Howl of the Tempest Wolves’ base, all guild members gathered at the training ground. As a structure designed to let players spar against one another, it was large enough to house several thousand.

Standing before the players was a masked man who faced them with his back. The guild members all set their fervent gazes on him. Behind him were his companions: Greenstone, Dumbgirl, Windstrider, Sasaki, Zephyrwolf, Idyllic Poet, and Danting—not one less.

Zephyrwolf whispered, ‘Boss, Sky Chun of Sky Dominion asks if we need help.’

‘Boss, Dakki of Allurers asks if we need help.’

‘Boss, Hexen of Corrupted Officials asks…’

‘Boss…’

Many voices all conveyed the same message, received from various people. Drako Yau remained silent and didn’t answer them. Moments later, he turned around and faced the thousand Howl of the Tempest Wolves players.

‘I suppose this is the first time I’ve met all of you.

‘Sorry for dragging you into this. We might’ve never met before, probably never spoke before either. Gosh, I’m not even from Howl of the Tempest Wolves.’ Drako Yau pointed at his blank shoulder. There was no guild badge to be seen. ‘Me and your guild master, everyone knows we’re good friends by now. Yet for this reason, the enemy decides to attack your base. I think it’s a shameful move.

‘Of course, there’s no such thing as shameful or not here in this world. The victor decides all and rewrites history. But—will they succeed?’

Drako Yau straightened himself and lifted his chest, as if he was the embodiment of a spear.

‘I don’t think so!’

Dark World finally completed their transfer to Yoda at nightfall. Just when they were about to initiate Base Assault, Howl of the Tempest Wolves’ base disappeared.

Players who were munching popcorn while waiting for the good show to start all dropped their jaws to the ground. What’s this? Surrendering?

Moonless Night laughed smugly and said on the global channel, ‘What’s wrong, Mask? So scared that you’ve surrendered? Ha! Thanks for giving us a spot to build our base!’

He then quickly applied for a guild base. The plot of land he chose was exactly the one Howl of the Tempest Wolves just abandoned. Soon enough, Dark World established their new base and made it functional.

It was at that moment a post by Howl of the Tempest Wolves appeared on the forum.

‘If it is a war you want, then so be it. However, it is beneath us to have an advantage over you. The ones initiating Base Assault won’t be you, but us. After fifteen minutes, we, Howl of the Tempest Wolves, will officially initiate Base Assault against Dark World.

Howl of the Tempest Wolves fear nothing.’

The post was created by Howl of the Tempest Wolves; it was also a wolf’s howl, signifying the start of their offensive.

Moonless Night immediately received a system notification after the post was made public.

‘Guild Howl of the Tempest Wolves has initiated Base Assault against Dark World. The enemy will strike in fifteen minutes.’

Players all over the game erupted into an uproar. A guild with only a thousand players was initiating Base Assault against a first-rate guild with thousands of elites!
