Game’s Dogma

Chapter 175: Last Stand

‘Not bad.’ Drako Yau was stingy with words as always.

‘Didn’t think we’ll get the chance to repay the favour earlier so soon,’ said Goemon, leader of Assassination Coalition’s squad.

‘Hm?’

Before the three could react, Goemon led his men around Drako Yau and stood before them. He smiled and said, ‘Let’s see what this inheritance thing is… Huh? It’s a skill?’ He stiffened as he continued, ‘Skill point reset? Fuck…’

The coalition of Empyreal Spire and Dark World was right before him already. Goemon greeted them, ‘Greetings, everyo…’

‘Shut the hell up!’

Moonless Night gave the order to attack without even letting Goemon finish his greeting. Despite having great numbers, Assassination Coalition was feared for their fanaticism, not strength. They were between second-line and third-rate at best when it came to combat. Goemon, who appeared to be the strongest among them all, had his skill points reset and couldn’t level up his skills again in time…

Drako Yau’s trio was stupefied. Who would’ve thought Goemon was so good at acting cool? He acted like a big shot, but his entire squad was annihilated almost immediately.

‘Run!’ Goemon cried out to Mask, who had been observing the brief fight, before he died.

Drako Yau nodded and turned to run when Greenstone held him back and said while pointing to their rear, ‘Careful.’

Slyfox had circled around them and cut off their path of retreat before they knew it. He even waved at them—there was no need to lurk anymore. Once he was behind them, it was his time to shine. He had laid traps all over the place while Drako Yau and the other two were occupied with watching Assassination Coalition’s annihilation.

Slyfox didn’t dare to be careless this time. Even while lurking, he didn’t act as if he was invisible and tip-toed his way past them, one step at a time. As expected, the brawny guy couldn’t spot him. It finally did his lurking techniques justice this time around. Still, it was unsure whether he would’ve succeeded if Greenstone hadn’t been distracted by how spectacularly Assassination Coalition had met their demise.

There was no retreat with enemies on their tails. ‘This is it.’ Drako Yau smiled and looked at Dumbgirl and Greenstone. ‘There’s no way out, so time to wreak some havoc.’

Drako Yau had never been scared of fighting. He simply found it pointless to engage in meaningless fights, but that didn’t mean he feared fighting itself. On the contrary, his passion for combat had only increased after crossing blows with the Fire Crystal Master, Handsome Scholar, Ichor Hon, and other great fighters, as if a tint of bellicose blood ran in him.

‘Come.’

Frost formed on the edge of his fiery red mask.

‘Cheh! Dead, you’re dead!’ Moonless Night screamed and spat at the ground. His eyes were bloodshot as he continued the insults.

Chau Yu could only sigh, for he understood why Moonless Night was on the verge of a mental breakdown. Despite being a shrewd and calculating person, he was also shocked by Drako Yau’s strength.

Drako Yau and his two members fought against a dozen players, all of which were elites among elites in the game. Hau Ngai was one of the strongest rangers in the entire game, while Moonless Night was a necromancer, a hidden class, and a high-ranked Arena veteran.

Chau Yu couldn’t discern the true strength of the cloth-armoured brawny man, but he was sure the man had a hidden class. The man’s skills granted Mask immunity towards control skills from Dark World’s mages, and that was when Mask could fully display his prowess.

Mask was like a demon lord born from ice and fire. Every mage and warrior couldn’t survive more than three of his attacks. His spear would spew blazing flames at times and turn freezing cold and send chills down their spines at others. The young girl who claimed to be Mask’s disciple was fairly decent as well, with each of her attacks knocking away a large chunk of their Health. The battle would’ve been over quickly if not for Chau Yu’s exceptional healing techniques.

The brawny man was just as strong. He kept healing the girl and Mask, turning them into invulnerable deities. Focused only on healing the two, Greenstone had an easy time keeping their Health up.

The tide of battle changed when they realised Greenstone’s role and focused their attacks on him. When Greenstone was finally at his limit and turned into a lump of white light, Mask’s fate was decided. No matter how good he was, it was difficult for him to win against so many elite players, especially when Dark World had a lot of tormentors who excelled at control skills.

Only four players remained to witness the young girl’s death and Mask’s undying legend coming to an end: Chau Yu, Slyfox, Moonless Night, and a tormentor from Dark World. Slyfox didn’t even participate in the fight as he was busy laying his trap formation to cut off Mask’s retreat.

Hau Ngai was Mask’s first target. As the corridors were narrow, his arrows could easily interfere with Mask’s escape, but that was a double-edged sword. When Mask turned around to fight, he, who had been leading the pursuit, had nowhere to evade or escape. Close-quarter combat with Mask as a ranger? The result was Mask parrying his arrows before turning him into white light with several thrusts.

Next up were Dark World. Drako Yau was like a tiger among sheep as he ravaged them with Greenstone’s buff that granted him immunity to control skills. Having entered Frost Form, their attacks were beyond sluggish to him.

Noticing Greenstone’s importance, Chau Yu immediately ordered Tripurity to attack Greenstone. Dumbgirl wasn’t weak and had learnt secret skills, but the Dragon Subduing Palms inheritance wasn’t an ordinary skill that relied heavily on player technique. She wasn’t Tripurity’s enemy considering Drako Yau had only been training as well as teaching her Dragon Capturing Hand recently.

When Dumbgirl finally fell prey to Tripurity, Mask tried to regroup with Greenstone but was entangled by Dark World at the cost of three deaths. Greenstone, left all alone, couldn’t display his evasive footwork in such a narrow environment. Tripurity’s ten flying swords also excelled at rapid attacks, the nemesis of evasive footwork; it would’ve been a lot less effective against Drako Yau’s bold combat style.

Dark World lost another two members by the time Greenstone was dead. Mask had also broken free from them and engaged Tripurity. With his final attack, Mask dragged Tripurity down with him as they both died, leaving only four survivors. Moonless Night wasn’t as delighted as he thought he’d be after finally killing Mask; it was a pyrrhic victory at best.

Rather, fear sprouted within him. The slim, masked man with a spear, under the flashes of ice and fire, was a reaper who siphoned everyone’s souls.
