Chapter 167: Entering Mount Soughslit

‘Sir Mask, renowned as Yoda’s benefactor, is of course qualified to enter,’ Judge Chui said with a smile. Perhaps because he rarely smiled, it looked stiff. Drako Yau’s companions behind him thought, This must be the fateful meeting of two stern blockheads!

Although somewhat flabbergasted, Drako Yau could feel Judge Chui’s friendly intent.

The crowd were even more flabbergasted than Drako Yau. Just who was Judge Chui? A core member of the infamous Assassination Coalition!

From the moment he faced the crowd, he had never spoken courteously with anyone. Rather than conversing, he sounded more like a judge delivering verdicts to sinners. This was the first time they had ever heard Judge Chui talk in a normal tone.

Even members of Assassination Coalition found it strange and sent glances at the two.

The reason was simple: Judge Chui knew little about Drako Yau. And mysteriousness could sometimes invoke fear.

Drako Yau and the rest entered Mount Soughslit without clashing with Empyreal Spire. Chau Yu only gave Drako Yau a good long stare before leading his men to another route. With how tall the mountain stood, even its mountainous paths had several branches, so the two groups split off and headed their own ways.

Underworld and Allurers also split off on their own. They hadn’t planned on trailing behind Mask from the start; if they had such a mentality, they couldn’t have become a first-rate guild in the first place. A hatchling that relied solely on its parents could never take flight.

As Drako Yau tread the mountainous path, he thought about Assassination Coalition, an organisation he found interesting. Their bond seemed weak, but they were surprisingly cohesive. Wasn’t that a bit like Drako Yau and his companions?

Drako Yau sensed Judge Chui’s friendly intent and grinned. Looks like a good partner to cooperate with.

Mount Soughslit was a wide and tall mountain. Even after walking for an hour, they found nothing special. Well, apart from the never-ending monstrous eagles and diverging forks.

‘Papa, this way,’ said Dumbgirl seriously as she pointed at a narrow path.

Zephyrwolf was laughing his arse off as Drako Yau pressed his palm to his face in pain and answered, ‘Dumbgirl, we went that way just now. It’s a dead-end.’

‘Oh.’ Dumbgirl, seemingly coming to a realisation, nodded and followed behind while maintaining her serious face.

Despite receiving Kiu Fung’s inheritance, Dumbgirl hadn’t grown smarter… At least her combat strength had skyrocketed. At just Level 23, even Danting wasn’t sure he could win against her every time in a duel. Kiu Fung’s inheritance was simply too powerful.

As they continued their hike, Drako Yau decided to continue his quest of teaching Dumbgirl that she should call him ‘master’ instead of ‘papa’.

Suddenly, Greenstone came to a halt. Drako Yau stopped his ‘lesson’ with Dumbgirl and asked, ‘What’s wrong?’

‘We’re walking in circles.’

‘Hmm?’

Greenstone went to a nearby tree and plucked out a needle from its trunk. ‘I placed it.’

Drako Yau simply nodded; he wasn’t too surprised by such a setting. Just like The Honno-ji Incident, completing high difficulty encounter quests wasn’t so simple. A publicly announced quest naturally wasn’t going to be easily resolved.

The cautious Windstrider also added in, ‘Monstrous eagles are appearing more frequently.’

Monstrous eagles were by no means weak and didn’t spawn in dense packs, so few players bothered levelling up at Mount Soughslit. Yet now, there was an increasing number of monstrous eagles, as well as the strangely looping path—all that suggested this wasn’t the Mount Soughslit they knew.

‘Then we’ll slaughter our way through!’ Zephyrwolf grinned confidently and summoned the demon wolf king Nene.

Something’s wrong. Chau Yu frowned as he noticed that more and more monstrous eagles were appearing. Are we lost? There’s only one path, apart from the forks near the entrance. I’ve remembered all the forks we’ve encountered on the way too. So… this must be the system’s setting.

And if it was the system’s setting, there must be a way to break through it.

A thought flashed through his head.

Where did these monstrous eagles come from?

Drako Yau’s squad pressed on as they thought. The most dominant fighter among them was, surprisingly, Dumbgirl.

‘Hah!’

Dumbgirl pushed her palm in the air, sending a howling dragon into the sky.

Eighteen Dragon Subduing Palms!

One of its special effects was aerial blockade. Monstrous eagles struck by Eighteen Dragon Subduing Palms fell one after another like kites without a thread, allowing Dumbgirl to pull them over with Dragon Capturing Palm. The others immediately ganged up on the poor monstrous eagles.

From what Dumbgirl had told them, the inheritance granted her the Eighteen Dragon Subduing Palms, a useful skill for both offence and defence, the aerial step skill Traceless Soaring Dragon, and the secret skill Dragon Capturing Palm.

Eighteen Dragon Subduing Palms, rather than an active skill, was more like a buff. After casting the skill, every strike and kick would fire off a dragon aura, though each attack would cost ‘chi’ which was essentially mana. Unlike most active skills which required only accuracy and prediction capability, whether or not Eighteen Dragon Subduing Palms could show its full potential depended on Dumbgirl’s martial arts.

Traceless Soaring Dragon was both an active and passive skill.

Level 1 passive effect: Increase movement speed by 10 per cent, increase short-range dash speed by 10 per cent.

Active effect: The soaring dragon possesses the caster, increasing movement speed, short-range dash speed, and attack speed by 30 per cent. Allows the caster to hover for 3 seconds.

There was no need to explain how overpowered it was.

As for Dragon Capturing Palm, it was the same as the one Drako Yau learnt, except that Dumbgirl’s skill maxed out at Level 10 instead of Level 5.

After learning Kiu Fung’s three secret skills, Dumbgirl could only remain as a starter forever without having the chance to undergo class progression. Not that she needed it when the three skills were so powerful. While every skill took a scary amount of skill points to level up, she didn’t have to undergo the trouble of deciding which skill was the better choice because she only had three skills; a really good fit for the dimwitted Dumbgirl.

How powerful the skills were greatly depended on how good the caster was. If Dumbgirl was poor at martial arts, she probably couldn’t even win against an ordinary warrior. However, when paired with decent martial arts techniques, the three secret skills could even rival Drako Yau’s Godly Spearmaster.

Drako Yau had already planned on teaching her Dragon Seeker, a skill passed down by the old geezer, though that was for a later date.

Anyways, Drako Yau also realised things weren’t normal. The monstrous eagles weren’t spawning from their original spawn points. Where did they come from then?

‘Hold back all monstrous eagles coming our way and head for where they are gathering at,’ Drako Yau gave the order.
