Chapter 137: The Failed Rampaging Bear King

Many players felt nervous upon witnessing the gigantic and terrifying bear king. Its ominous atmosphere was befitting of a world boss; not everyone had the courage to go up against it.

Some players were so scared that they wanted to shrink back, making Moonless Night swear in his mind.

Even though the crowd of players weren’t the cream of the crop, there was a saying which went ‘swarms of ants could kill an elephant’. The guilds publicly recruited players on the official forum for one reason: to send them in as cannon fodder.

Truth be told, the chance of an ordinary player getting the last hit when there were so many first rate guilds around was probably even lower than hitting the jackpot in a lottery.

Furthermore, it was the first kill of a world boss! The rewards for getting the first kill was much better than any subsequent kills, which was why the guilds wouldn’t let such an opportunity slip by.

Upon sensing that players were trying to run away, Moonless Night made his move.

‘Everyone, Dark World shall be the vanguard!’

His palms flashed, and a short staff appeared in his hands. As he muttered something gibberish to himself, dark smoke emanated around him. He then shouted and pointed his staff forwards.

Three skeleton soldiers equipped with tattered swords appeared not far ahead of him and ran towards the bear king. They soon entered the bear king’s aggro range.

All world bosses were aggressive monsters. Once within its aggro range, it would hunt the enemy down ruthlessly until they all perished.

‘Gaaaah!’ The bear king howled at the incoming skeletons, forcing surrounding players to cover their ears.

Members of Dark World spared no time and all made their moves. Now that the boss was triggered, there was no way back. The dozen or so first-rate and second line guilds started attacking as well. Each guild sent in two to three elite squads, adding up to almost a thousand players, all engaging the bear king together.

Thanks to the third line guilds’ previous attempts, they were mostly familiar with the bear king’s moves in its early stages. No matter how fiercely it roared and how wildly it swung its claws, the elite players all knew when to advance and when to retreat. Moonless Night also switched between various tactics, sometimes sending in skeleton soldiers, sometimes spawning skeleton archers, or even summoning ghosts. Regardless, they all troubled the bear king greatly.

However, previous attempts all failed when the bear king reached half Health. No one knew what to expect or how to cope with its attacks beyond that point. They weren’t very confident about it, but as things stood, all they could do was bite the bullet.

After realising that the elite squads had stabilised the situation, those hesitating players saw hope and mustered their courage to join the fray. The boss was already right before their eyes. They all fantasised about the ever-so tiny fraction of chance that they could land the final hit on the bear king.

As more and more players attacked the bear king, its painful shrieks resounded a lot more frequently. Some players who had unique detection skills skirmished around the battlefield while reporting the bear king’s Health. While they had detection skills, they were only low level skills and could only detect its approximate Health.

Ninety per cent, eighty per cent…

The bear king’s Health continued to plummet. Under the combined attacks of thousands of players, its Health was finally nearing its 50 per cent threshold.

‘Grrrrrr!’ The bear king suddenly pointed its snout towards the sky and howled.

‘Clerics!’ Moonless Night shouted.

Even though they had practiced it so many times, he still couldn’t help but cry out when it was the real deal. The group of clerics immediately cast a skill together.

Level 20 Cleric skill: Purifying Halo. Players within the halo are immune to all negative debuffs and ailments. Lasts for 5 seconds.

The elite players calmly stood within the halo and left the bear king alone as it howled. It was invincible during its howl because it was a skill, so there wasn’t anything they could do.

While the first-rate and second line guilds appeared to have dealt with it easily, things weren’t as fortunate for the solo players. Blood spurted from their ears, bringing their Health down to zero and turning them into corpses.

It was the Failed Rampaging Bear King’s skill, Bear Howl. The skill dealt damage-over-time and had a crowd control effect. Anyone who heard the howl would be stunned. It was the ultimate skill which stunned enemies and dealt great damage in a large range.

Hundreds of metres away from the bear king, there was a short hill. A group of twenty or so players had gathered there, led by a man whose face was covered by a fiery red mask decorated with a gently glowing white dragon which extended from his forehead to the corner of his lips.

The person was obviously Drako Yau, and the people behind him were all on his side: Danting, Zephyrwolf, Idyllic Poet, Windstrider, Greenstone, and Sasaki.

Drako Yau turned to glance at Sasaki; seeing how eager Sasaki was gave him a headache.

Danting’s way of thinking was as naive and childish as children, so Drako Yau took care of Danting as if he was a child. However, Sasaki was more like a younger brother. Once Sasaki heard that Drako Yau’s group was going to steal the world boss, he immediately hopped onboard with the group in excitement.

Thing was, Sasaki was still at Level 19. It was a rather low level even for typical players, but considering he had a hidden class and was a force to be reckoned with in battle, they brought him along in the end.

As for Hades, he naturally brought along the three powerful fighters: Everlastor, Bloodless Bladester, and Soulsmith. A cleric also came along to support them from the rear.

Apart from King Zau who followed Dakki everywhere, she also came with two girls who were elementalists and another beauty who was a cleric. Meanwhile, Sky Chun’s squad members consisted of Fong Sai Yuk the hidden class bearer, Sky Dominion’s number one paladin Shum Hung, along with a ranger and a cleric.

With five from Sky Dominion, five from Underworld, five from Allurers, added with seven from Drako Yau’s team, they formed a twenty-two person squad. They silently observed the ongoing battle in the distance.

As the bear king continued to howl, Hades who stood next to Drako Yau said, ‘The bear king’s Health is under 50 per cent now.’

‘Right…’ Drako Yau nodded while his brain made ongoing calculations. Arithmetics and estimations had always been his strength, which was why he did so well in game designing.

The bear king’s Health, their average damage-per-second, the time they needed to reach the bear king…

‘A bit longer.’ Drako Yau said calmly with his eyes fixed to the front.

Another half an hour went by. Drako Yau focused his gaze then said, ‘Everyone, get ready. Setting off in 30 seconds.’

Everyone had a heavy atmosphere when they heard Drako Yau’s command. After all, they were stealing a boss among thousands of players with a single squad. It seemed as difficult as reaching the heavens.

Ten… Nine… Eight…

One…

‘Charge!’

Drako Yau was the first to charge at the forefront! Everyone also followed tightly behind him.

Although Drako Yau had the Wanderer skill which increased his movement speed, he didn’t leave his squad members behind. He intentionally controlled his pace and forbade all players with warrior-related classes from using Dash to ensure that the entire squad would advance at the same speed.

As they got closer, they could gradually hear the bear king’s howls as well as shouts and cries of players. At that moment…

An arrow seemed to cut apart the skies as it bolted straight towards Drako Yau.
