Chapter 133: Status and Fame Are Mere Adjuncts

Windstrider was caught off guard by the question and turned to look at Drako Yau. Drako Yau’s appearance was nothing special; he looked just like a slightly nerdy guy. Still, it was exactly this harmless-looking man who subdued and convinced Windstrider.

‘I don’t know.’

‘Hoho, that’s because I can tell you’re different from them.’ Drako Yau looked calmly into Windstrider’s eyes, but Drako Yau’s pair of calm eyes now seemed as vast and mysterious as the ocean. ‘Fei Yeung seeks profit, Mister Unfettered seeks status and respect. They need strength to accomplish their goals, but you’re different.

‘To be frank, you probably can’t win against Mister Unfettered in a duel. Even though he’s a warrior, he also has Tingling Fan Dance for mid-range attacks and control skills. He’s your semi-nemesis in a sense.

‘The reason I chose you isn’t because of your strength. It’s because I see your thirst for strength in your eyes. Desire for strength, the purest kind. Status, profit, fame, none of that matters to you. All you seek is strength.’

Drako Yau’s average face gave off the impression of a wise man. ‘For you… Or I should say, people like you, success is guaranteed in the future. When you seek purely for strength, status and fame will naturally become your adjuncts.’

Zephyrwolf and Greenstone also thought about his words. It sounded unreasonable at first, but it made a lot of sense once they thought about it.

In the actual world, some people further their studies only for wealth and better salaries. However, some learn because they were passionate about it, and what they seek were truths of the world. Once they reached a critical point and made a breakthrough, wealth would naturally flow to them. There was simply no need to pursue wealth itself.

Ancient inventors such as Edison and Einstein, or more recently, ‘Father of Lasers’ Kreftz who invented the modernised military laser weapon system were all good examples. No matter how people tried to rob them of their wealth, wealth always found a way back to them—because they themselves are the embodiment of wealth.

Windstrider seemed to be bothered by something as he left. Only Zephyrwolf, Greenstone, and Drako Yau remained in the room.

‘Ehehe, philosophies of life or whatsoever is too much for me. Anyways, how bout a lil’ fight now that I’m done with class progression?’

Drako Yau laughed and said, ‘This guy really…’

Zephyrwolf stood up. ‘Hmph, what now? You’re scared?’

Drako Yau also rose from his seat with a grin. ‘Looking confident, aren’t you?’

The two of the exchanged stares while Greenstone watched on as if it had nothing to do with him.

The conference room could house a hundred people. With just the three of them there, it was large enough for them to have a duel. Both of them knew it was just a friendly spar, not a battle of life and death too.

Zephyrwolf waved his hand, and the demon wolf king appeared out of thin air. However, it now had an ID above its head: Nene.

Zephyrwolf, completely in tatters, returned to the class progression instructor and took out the wolven totem. He had made great sacrifices for the sake of completing his class progression.

The Army Token was the key to completing the two quests. Without it, he’d still be trying to get a wolven totem to drop when everyone else was already Level 25. It just went to show how precious the Army Token was; if they had the token back during the Siege, it alone was enough to defend against an entire wave!

Now, in order to complete his class progression, Zephyrwolf had used the precious token.

‘Hm, young man, you’re not bad at all. You are worthy of being the successor of the Wolf Tamer Tribe.’

Seeing Wolver’s satisfied look, Zephyrwolf was too tired to even roll his eyes.

‘Can I undergo my class progression already?’

Wolver nodded and said, ‘Once you complete your final quest, you’ll become a true warrior of the Wolf Tamer Tribe!’

‘Another quest?’ Zephyrwolf jumped upon hearing it; he was already so exhausted that he really wanted to go offline and rest.

Wolver said with a smile, ‘Give your companion a name.’

‘Ding!’

‘Quest received: A Name.’

Startled, Zephyrwolf saw the demon wolf king staring at him with its watery eyes. Their duo, man and wolf, had been getting along with one another for some time now. While they were bonded, Zephyrwolf had never given it a name of any sort.

He suddenly remembered what Lelei, the lady who had given him the quest, had once said during their idle chat.

‘We’ve once imagined our fantastic future, me and Huth. We even came up with names for our children! Smith for the boy, Nene for the girl… But now…’

Zephyrwolf nodded and gave Wolver his answer, ‘Nene.’

‘Go! Nene!’ Zephyrwolf exclaimed in high spirits as he pointed forwards.

The demon wolf king Nene howled and lunged at Drako Yau. It was the good old unavoidable Lunging Bite. In the blink of an eye, Drako Yau was already toppled over onto the ground.

However, having been good friends with Zehpyrwolf for a while, he naturally knew Lunging Bite’s weakness as well. While the target couldn’t fight back, the skill could be interrupted. It was why he had summoned a fire crystal giant before Nene finished casting Lunging Bite.

The fire crystal giants weren’t very helpful when it came to fighting, but they were still decent as a meatshield or to annoy the enemy.

Once the fire crystal giant landed its light punch, Nene’s Lunging Bite was forcefully interrupted. Zephyrwolf had already caught up from behind by that moment, his longsword radiating an eerie purplish aura.

The Demon Wolf Hero class had four Level 20 skills.

1. Wolven Blood: Increases demon wolf’s Health by 20 per cent.

2. Wolven Battle Spirit: Become one with the demon wolf and imbue its powers onto a weapon to increase its Attack. (Can only be used when the demon wolf is summoned.)

3. Demon Wolf Strike: A vertical attack which rends the target. Cooldown: 4 seconds.

The purplish aura shrouding Zephyrwolf’s sword was the effect of Wolven Battle Spirit. Having missed his first attack, Zephyrwolf wasn’t discouraged and followed up with the next skill. Drako Yau also dismissed his fire crystal giants; it was just a spar, not a real fight after all. He wouldn’t have summoned the giants if it wasn’t required to interrupt Lunging Bite.

Zephyrwolf pointed forwards once again. Nene morphed into a  purple shadow and charged straight at Drako Yau.

‘Hm?’

It’s a dash skill!

Drako Yau didn’t idle about and placed his spear horizontally before himself. Nene’s gigantic head bashed into the spear’s pole with so much force that it knocked him backwards. At that moment, Zephyrwolf rushed over and slashed vertically from above.

It was the fourth Level 20 skill, Dash N’ Slash: The demon wolf dashes towards and bashes the target, stunning the target when landed. The demon wolf hero then charges 1 second later at the same target and uses Demon Wolf Strike.

Looking at the incoming sword imbued with a purple glow, Drako Yau had no intention of taking a blow from it. Thankfully, the stun only lasted for two seconds. The moment he recovered, he sidestepped as he thrusted his spear out like a viper.

Zephyrwolf grunted; Drako Yau’s crazy reflexes were almost disgusting. He immediately cast Crescent Slash!
