Chapter 32: Ancient Key

When he arrived at their territory again, David found that their area had changed quite a bit too.

The thatched hut at the edge of the cliff looked very sturdy. In this mountain cave, it could withstand storms.

For example, the strong winds from yesterday morning would not affect it at all.

Clark smiled when he saw him. “Hey, what brings you here again?”

David explained, “I came to dig some clay soil back.”

Clark asked, “What? Did all the soil from last time fail?”

David shook his head. “Part of it worked.”

Clark studied him closely. He also noticed the shoes on his feet.

When he saw those shoes, he was extremely excited. He wished he could get himself a pair too.

Clark smiled and said, “This is our territory. If you want something, you have to give something in exchange.”

David noticed their eyes on him. ‘I told you about this last time.’

He nodded. “What do you want?”

“The shoes,” Clark said excitedly. “As long as you make us shoes, I’ll let you bring the clay back.”

David chuckled and shook his head. “Do you think this clay can be exchanged for three pairs of shoes? It’s not that valuable, is it?”

Clark reminded him, “The rarer something is, the more valuable it is. The clay can only be found in our territory. Why is it worthless?”

David replied, “I can walk further into the island. There shouldn’t be any shortage of that in there.”

Clark frowned. “Then you’ll have to at least give us two pairs of shoes, yes?”

“No,” David refused decisively. “Not unless you offer something else of value.”

Clark glanced back at Morton and saw that his chief looked very upset.

He knew that his chief was very unhappy with all the bargaining.

Clark gritted his teeth. “I’ve got meat here. Do you want it?”

“No.” He now had so much meat that he couldn’t even finish them. How could he want more?

“That’s the most valuable thing we have here,” Clark said. “I’m sure you wouldn’t care for the other things.”

But David was calm and said, “Sometimes things that are useless to you might be useful to me.”

Clark was slightly stunned. He seemed to make sense.

“All right. I’ll bring the stuff out and you can choose for yourself.”

David nodded, curious to know what they could find during this period of time.

Clark walked over to Morton and Andrew. They exchanged a few words in a whisper.

They thought that David couldn’t hear them, but David’s Huntsman skill had reached Level 3.

He could hear everything within a 500-meter radius clearly, not to mention how close they were.

Within moments, Clark placed some of the items he’d found in front of him.

There weren’t many things. One of them was a beast’s tooth. It was very sharp and could be used as a cutting tool.

Right now Morton and company already have cutting tools, they even had spares, so this was an extra.

Next, there were the dried mushrooms. It was what they had found, too. So far, there were still lots of them.

Finally, there was a fragment of an earthenware pot that could be used as a tool to store things.

Then, something caught his attention.

It was a key that was 10 centimeters long. Its exterior was already corroded and rusted.

He picked up the key and examined it carefully, asking in surprise, “There’s a key on this island?”

Seeing his interest, Clark said, “We took this out of the belly of a beast. It seemed to have been in its belly for a long time.”

David took a few glances at it but didn’t see any meaning in it. He then put it down. “I have all these things. I don’t really need them.”

“Well…” Clark started, clearly not expecting such a direct rejection.

They had so many things, all of them were very difficult to find.

David dismissed them so lightly as if he didn’t seem to need them at all?

David didn’t want to make things too difficult for them. After all, they were living so close together. It was important to build a good relationship.

He picked up the key again and shook it. “Give me this key.”

Clark hadn’t expected him to be so easygoing. “Are you sure?”

“I’m sure.” David nodded and smiled. “This key looks old. Maybe it’s the key to a certain secret place on the island.”

Clark laughed dryly. They were here to survive, just for the full 100 days.

Even if there was a secret place, it wasn’t attractive to them.

Furthermore, those secret places were all very dangerous. Going there was also courting death.

They were indeed adventurous, but under the pressure of survival, they were unwilling to take unnecessary risks.

This was also the main reason why they weren’t too curious about the key and were willing to trade it with David.

Clark said hastily, “If you like it, take it. We don’t need it.”

David could tell they were here for the challenge set by the program.

As for other matters, they were not curious at all.

He put the key into the bag at his waist and said, “I’ll bring the clay soil back first. I’ll send the things here in the next two days.”

“Okay, okay, no problem. Go help yourself.” Clark wasn’t worried in the slightest that he would run away just like that.

Now he was only looking forward to getting the shoes. It would be much more convenient for them subsequently.

David didn’t delay. He went to load the clay.

In David’s livestream, the popularity had dropped again because nothing major had happened in the past two days.

The numbers fell from the initial 800,000 to 300,000.

Most of the people who stayed behind were his fans and liked his carefree life.

“That key looks ancient.”

“It can’t really be the key to a secret place, like David said?”

“Such an island doesn’t seem to be inhabited at all. The appearance of that key is too strange.”

“I think it’s strange too. It can’t be something they brought to the island?”

“How is that possible? Back when they were getting on the island, everyone was thoroughly examined. No knives were allowed.”

“Did you forget about the group of murderers? David found a small knife on them.”

“Why is this season getting harder and harder to understand? Is the production team doing this on purpose?”

David returned to his lodging with the clay soil and set it aside.

After washing his hands, he sat at his usual resting place and took out the key.

The outside of the key was corroded, revealing the rust inside.

He examined it carefully, but he didn’t see a single word.

Without words, there was no way to confirm what it was.

Ding!

“Congratulations Host on finding an ancient key. Please accept the first quest: Find the entrance to the ancient tomb.”

“Quest Reward: All items in the tomb will go to the Host.”

David was dumbfounded at the system’s words.

This was an ancient key?

There was an ancient tomb in the area?
