Chapter 25: High Level Of Competence

“One of the eggs the boss’s sister brought downstairs was sold at a high price of 350 thousand!”

The little sparrow’s eyes gleamed as she chattered happily. 350 thousand! If the shop did well, she wouldn’t have to hunt for a new job anymore.

One egg for 350 thousand! Indeed, a demon egg exceeding its Subordinate potential was worth that price.

A not-so-apt comparison would be the cars on Earth.

A demon beast with only stage one potential was not worth much. According to the different types and species, the demon beasts of this stage could range from a few thousand to tens of thousands, just like a small electric car.

The cost of a stage two demon beast would start multiplying, ranging from 10, 20, and all the way to a hundred thousand, around the price of local[1] cars.

A stage three demon beast’s value would sky-rocket, fetching a price of 100, 200, or even 300 thousand, roughly the price of Japanese cars.

Stage four was a jump from the Subordinate to the Elite-level. From an unhatched demon beast egg to a demon beastling, the price would surge once again, reaching a lower-tiered posh car, like a Mercedes or a BMW.

Therefore, 300 to 400 thousand was a standard price. It was not considered expensive at all.

If it was hatched into a beastling, it would cost even more.

A stage five and six demon beastling would reach the price of a Ferrari or Lamborghini.

Another stage higher would be the Commanders, and it would be difficult to find a place that sold them.

Before Cao Yan took over, this shop only dealt in Subordinate demon beasts. The cost was high, and the profit margin was narrow. Therefore, even though it was located at a good spot, the business was never booming.

What shocked Cao Yan, though, was how quickly one of the eggs was bought. “How was it sold?” He thought to himself: So the notification came after the egg was sold. It seems the requirement was to have my own property and successfully earn my first income.

“A male customer passed by the shop and saw your sister, so he came in. Then, your new sister recommended the Ocean Peng egg to the customer, who bought it at once. He even wanted to buy the other one, but your sister disagreed.” The little sparrow started chirping again.

“Wait, my new sister? Do I have an old sister, too?” Cao Yan frowned.

The little sparrow stuck her tongue out. Oops, it was a slip of the tongue. She meant to say the boss’s newly-arrived sister.

Cao Yan followed the little sparrow downstairs.

The male assistant, Ping Chuan, also tagged along. He stood behind Cao Yan and took a peek at Wang Li. Boss’s older sister is really pretty…

The customer in the shop had not left yet. In his thirties, the man had a fair complexion and appeared to be a little drunk. He carried the newly-bought egg in one arm as he asked, with his eyes glued to Wang Li, “Are you really not selling the other egg? I can pay more. Tsk, tsk. This is excellent stuff. An Ocean Peng egg with the potential to reach stage four, now that’s rare. Besides, it’s sold by a beautiful woman like you. Just looking at you makes me want to spend money. Hehe.”

“I’m sorry, we are really not selling this egg. You can leave your contact number here, and I’ll inform you the moment we have good demon beasts.” Wang Li was very tactful and confident at work. She kept a charismatic smile on her face so that even when she rejected customers, they would not feel offended or embarrassed.

“Alright, then. Do you have a PA? Why don’t I get your contact number as well?” the customer asked outrightly.

“I am just a regular salesperson; how can I afford a PA…” Wang Li explained briefly while not forgetting to promote the shop, “I work here. You can always come over to look for me.”

The PA just mentioned was a personal assistant tool, whose inventor was a famous historical robotics master. One of its functions worked like a handphone. However, it could only send messages over short distances, so its range limited it to the city. Once you left the city and entered the forest, the PA would be affected by the magnetic field and other complicated environmental factors, causing it to lose its connection.

The male customer continued to chatter for a while more. Cao Yan watched Wang Li handle him cordially all the way until she sent him off. That was a high level of competence.

Cao Yan delightedly thought to himself: What a good salesgirl. No wonder the fake system would even set a mission just to save her.

“The real reason behind the mission to save the crybaby was that she is inherently amiable and alluring. You can also understand it as women’s natural charm. Women like her are usually the queens of sales and human relations. As a wife, she would suck you dry, also known as the type that would bewitch everyone… Her previous employer had cried until he fainted in the toilet after she left.”

The fake system clarified the underlying reason to Cao Yan in its usual way.

“We can’t sell the remaining Ocean Peng egg too quickly. We have to keep it in the shop so that we would also have Elite demon pets on sale here. It would put us on a different level,” Wang Li explained to Cao Yan with a smile after sending the customer off.

Cao Yan was glad about her suggestion. “You did well. Let me announce this while everyone is here. In the future, for every sale you make, you will get a 6% commission.”

Han Muyu and An Qing’s eyes widened. 6% might not sound like much, but it was a commission on top of their basic salary. Wang Li had just sold an Ocean Peng egg at 350 thousand, and a 6% commission meant around 20 thousand dollars. It was a hefty sum and a considerable increase compared to the measly 4% the previous boss gave.

“Alright, get on with your work.” Cao Yan turned to return upstairs while the others got busy.

Although there was nobody around on the second floor, Cao Yan was not in a hurry to repair the defective demon balls. He called out the screen interface and realized that his mission points had been credited to him. Now, he had a total of 120 points.

There was even a hidden reward tab—Single Skill Enhancement.

Cao Yan quickly clicked on it, and a skill book with a faint silver glow emerged from the screen interface. It was an intermediate spacesmith skill book!

Although it was just a single skill enhancement, the intermediate spacesmith skill book, containing a lot of methods on how to make demon balls, would definitely have heaps of knowledge on cryptography. It was like a timely rain in drought, exactly what Cao Yan needed.

Just like before, because the system was a fake system, the skill book still did not instantly turn into knowledge flowing straight into his head.

To find out and learn about the content, he had to read the book.

“This intermediate single-skill skill book has a light silver color. The elementary trainer skill book previously was a light green color. How many levels are there for skill books?” Cao Yan asked.

“From low to high, the colors are elementary-green, intermediate-silver, advanced-gold, and master-purplish gold. These four skill books also correspond to the four levels: beginner, adept, expert, and perfect. You don’t have to know the higher levels for now. They are beyond your reach,” the fake system said slowly.

After nodding, Cao Yan flipped the skill book open and started his reading session.

At the same time, a creature emerged from the shadow behind him. It was Eggy, who Cao Yan had brought along. It had been hiding in his shadow all this while and only showed itself when no one was around. Eggy laid silently on the floor beside Cao Yan.

The second floor was very quiet, and the skill book’s content soon grabbed Cao Yan’s attention.
