Chapter 17: Blake’s Parents?

“So... You want to tell me what happened, Blake?” Vera asked when she saw Blake entering the house wearing only his pants.

“Well, this happened.” Blake turned his body and showed Vera his backside, particularly his two wings that had just grown out of his back about 15 minutes ago.

Blake had tried moving the two small wings vigorously in an attempt to make himself float, but alas, the vigorous movements of the wings didn’t generate any lifting force that was capable of lifting him, instead, it mangled his shirt so badly that it turned into a rug cloth.

And in the end, he gave up trying to fly for the time being and took off his shirt before running back to Vera’s home as it was almost time for dinner.

Although he had run fast enough, Blake was still late by about 15 minutes and Vera had gone up from her basement and was waiting for him upstairs, hence why the moment Blake opened the door, the demoness had seen him barging with no tops on and slightly ragged breathing.

After holding in his embarrassment from being seen half-naked by his beautiful teacher, Blake then proceeded to tell her about all the things that he had gone through in the few hours he went out hunting.

Vera listened closely to every word that came out of Blake’s mouth and she nodded from time to time before laughing out loud when he heard Blake had tried flapping his wings like a bird to make himself fly and ruined his shirt beyond saving as a result.

.....

“AHAHAHAHA”
“Blake... You are really- AHAHAHAHAHAHA”

It took Vera a whole minute to finally calm down from her laughter as she continuously patted her own chest to help herself stop laughing.

If Blake were to see Vera laughing out loud and patting her own chest, his mind would probably go blank for a solid minute as she appreciated the beautiful and irresistible sight in front of him, but alas, he was too embarrassed of himself when he realized he had probably done something incredibly stupid to make the demoness lost control and laugh without restraint, and he was currently looking at his own feet, not wanting Vera to see his embarrassed face.

Vera, who had finally regained her composure, noticed Blake’s action and smiled before saying,

“I’m sorry, Blake, It’s just too funny for me. I didn’t mean to laugh at you. I really forget for a minute that you don’t come from this world.”

Vera then extended her hand forward towards Blake’s head and rubbed it back and forth before she continued saying,

“That’s not how you use your wings. Let me teach you how to use it later, okay?”

Blake still felt the embarrassment that had rooted deep inside his mind, but after hearing Vera apologizing and telling him that she would personally teach him how to use his wings later on, Blake was then given enough strength to curb his embarrassment and threw it further back in the corner of his mind.

“I will prepare dinner first!” Blake said before running off to the back of the house and started preparing the two boar carcasses to be cooked for his and Vera’s dinner.

Seeing Blake was running away, taking along his embarrassment that was still showing on his face with him, Vera couldn’t help but chuckle at the sight and thought,

‘Did I really take in a disciple that would help me defeat my strong enemies and become a very powerful demon in the future or did I actually just take in a little baby brother?’

Remembering that she had indeed taught him how to eat his first soul, and the lack of common sense that Blake was having for the past week the two were living together, Vera chuckled once more as her thoughts made her think of the latter instead of the former.

She had a real baby sister back then, but the situation and condition were nothing similar to what she felt right now when he saw Blake come back home with a rugged look and a funny story about the stupid things that he tried to do while he was playing on what essentially was the house’s backyard. It was a completely different feeling that she had never felt before when she hadn’t moved to live in a random forest somewhere in the first realm.

But aside from the fact that Blake’s story really brought her genuine entertainment, she had also learned something from it.

‘This confirms it. His parents were most likely highly evolved demons.’ She thought to herself.

She had seen Blake’s wings that had suddenly appeared on his back, and the wings looked like it was not well-proportioned to his own body, which was certainly unusual for a humanoid demon, but totally normal for an adolescent humanoid demon that was still in its growth phase.

A demon could look humanoid because they either had evolved a lot and it made their bodies look humanoid, or rather, human-like, it’s either that or two humanoid demons decided to make a baby and the child born of the two demons would also have a humanoid body upon it was born.

Blake’s body might have looked developed and he didn’t look anything close to a newly born baby humanoid demon. But the wings that had just grown on his back certainly looked like one, and it confirmed Vera’s guess even more when Blake told her that it suddenly appeared after Blake had eaten more souls.

‘His body’s growth must have stagnated because he hadn’t been given a single soul before... And now that he had eaten more souls, his body finally started developing once again after it had received the nutrients it needed.’

‘Did his parents intentionally do this to him to experiment on him? 14 years and not a single soul was given to him. What kind of demon do they want to turn Blake into?’

She wondered whether Blake’s parents were newly evolved humanoid demons and didn’t know what they were doing, but when she remembered the complicated runes on Blake’s left chest that she, who had studied runes for years, didn’t recognize at all, she discarded the idea entirely.

‘There’s no way someone with an unknown bloodline power that had very complicated runes would belong to some random newly evolved humanoid demon. Just from the complexity of them, they might even come from the same realm as my father...’

‘Ah, whatever. Let’s just wait and see how things turn out before thinking about anything else.’

After shaking her head a couple of times to clear her mind, Vera then walked back to her room on the second floor to find some clothes that Blake could use to replace his mangled shirt.
