Chapter 28

John glanced at her. Then, he stood up and walked away.

Waverly understood that he agreed to her request, and she yelled in joy, “Thank you, John!”

That day, Sherri visited. She was there to look for John, and she had even purposely dressed up gorgeously.

She wore a bright red dress that draped behind her, and she had heavy makeup on. Moreover, her perfume was intense too.

As soon as she walked into Lambert’s residence, Waverly’s nose was irritated, and she sneezed a few times.

Waverly cast a disdainful glance at her. “Who are you? Don’t you feel unbearable wearing that strong perfume scent!”

Sherri felt awkward hearing her words. Thus, she had no choice but to wash her wrist, trying her best to dilute the fragrant. Then, she walked back to the hall.

“I’m sorry, Waverly. It was an accident!”

Sherri wanted to meet John, so she could not help but spritz more perfume on her, but she did not expect that she overdid it.

Waverly looked at her mockingly. “So what if you put on extra perfume? If you’re ugly, you won’t turn into a goddess just because you try your best to dress up!”

“You —” Sherri was about to refute when she saw John walking in from the entrance. Then, she instantly went quiet.

Barkley walked forward and took John’s briefcase. “Young Master, dinner is ready.”

“Alright. Then, let’s have dinner!” John swept his gaze across the three people in the hall, and then he directly went to the restroom to wash up.

After that, Kathleen, Sherri, and Waverly made their way to the dining hall.

The kitchen had prepared a feast. When John walked into the dining hall, he sat directly at the main seat.

Sherri and Waverly both hurriedly walked toward his sides, and each of them sat next to him.

Kathleen ignored the fight between the two ladies and chose a seat further away from John.

John peeped at her, and his gaze was profound.

Kathleen lowered her head further when she sensed his gaze.

Since the incident that day, she had been avoiding John like this.

John calmly uttered, “Let’s eat!”

Seeing that John had picked up his chopsticks, Sherri and Waverly followed suit and started eating.

Sherri glanced at Waverly and gave her a slice of fish, smiling as she said, “Waverly, you’re so thin. You should eat more meat. You’ll also be smarter if you eat more fish!”

Waverly looked at her disdainfully, and she immediately picked up the slice of fish and threw it into the dustbin next to them.

The dining hall instantly became quiet, and Sherri turned to John awkwardly.

John frowned. “Waverly, stop being so rude.”

Waverly snorted, and she thought she was not at the wrong. “I am able-bodied, so why does she need to serve me food?”

Obviously, she knew that Sherri was trying to be courteous.

Well, she made the wrong plan. No matter how hard Sherri tried to please her, Waverly would not like her.

She would not like any woman that was close to John.

Kathleen watched the scene in amazement, and her lips twitched. Was this a battle of the b*tches?

After dinner, Sherri had something to talk to John about, so they went directly to his room.

Waverly waited for what felt like an eternity for her, but Sherri was still in the room. Moreover, she was getting increasingly jealous, and she was really annoyed with Sherri.

However, Waverly was not as courageous as to barge into John’s room and bothered them.

She looked around and decided to visit Kathleen’s room instead.

Seeing that Kathleen was studying, Waverly mocked, “Hey, idiot. Don’t you think John’s treats you well? Yet, no matter how good he treats you, Sherri is his fiancee. After our dinner, she had been hanging in John’s room. The two of them must’ve fallen asleep. Hehe. Even if you like John, you’ll always be the mistress, and he won’t be able to bring you out in public!”

Kathleen scoffed. “Waverly, I know what you’re thinking about! I’ve warned you before to stop pulling tricks behind my back, such as the matters at school… spreading rumors, and so… Otherwise, I’ll silence you forever. Since you know that Ms. Millan is his fiancee, you should be more aware of your actions. Compared with Sherri, you’re the outsiders of the Lambert family.”

Waverly was furious when she heard Kathleen’s words. “What did you say? I’m an outsider? I’m the daughter of the Lewis family, and I’m John’s cousin!”

Kathleen laughed mockingly. “Unfortunately for you, this is Lambert’s residence, not Lewis’s.”

Waverly’s chest was hurting from being angered by her. Finally, she ran out of the room in a fury.

Coincidentally, she bumped into Sherri, who just walked out of John’s room.

Sherri supported her and asked, “Are you okay?”

When Waverly saw Sherri, an idea flashed in her mind. Then, she grabbed Sherri by her elbow, saying, “Follow me. I have something to tell you!”

Sherri looked at her and questioned, “What is it?”

Nonetheless, Waverly was worried that John would overhear their conversation, so she brought Sherri to her room.

Sherri frowned. “Waverly, what the hell are you doing!”

“Sherri, I just want to let you know that you’re nothing more than your title!”

Waverly looked at her and smiled. “I bet you didn’t know that when Kathleen was sick, John fed her medicine mouth-to-mouth. Furthermore, he even wiped her body and changed her clothes. It was as if there were no boundaries between the two of them… In fact, he spent his nights sleeping with Kathleen, and their relationship is really intimate!”

When Sherri heard this, she was trembling with anger. Kathleen… Kathleen was actually so audacious as to…

Sherri thought that Kathleen would restrain herself after she taught her a lesson last time. However, Sherri had not expected that Kathleen would play the same old trick and continue seducing John!

This was definitely intolerable! She must get rid of Kathleen!

Noticing Sherri’s fierce expression, Waverly showed a gleeful smile.

Back at the Millans, George Millan was sitting in the living room, reading a newspaper. When he saw Sherri came back looking dejected, he asked, “Sherri, you’re back?”

“Daddy, why are you still awake?”

“Hmm. What happened? Weren’t you at John’s?”

Sherri recalled Waverly’s words and was outraged. “Daddy, don’t remind me about that. John had always been treating me like a stranger. In fact, he’s more intimate with the adopted fool than he’s with me! When that idiot fell sick, John personally took care of her, and they frequently slept in the same bed! Why does John care for that stupid girl so much! She’s a murderer’s daughter!”

George frowned and put down his newspaper. “Sherri, come and sit next to me.”

Sherri walked over and took a seat. “Daddy, I really can’t take this anymore! If we don’t get rid of the idiot, John and I won’t have a future together.”

George’s gaze was unreadable as he said, “Do you know why John chose our family for his marriage?”

Sherri stared at George. “Isn’t it because he wants to cooperate with us to strengthen his power?”

George furrowed his brows. “Sherri, you’re such a silly girl. Why would the Lamberts need the Millans to expand their business? The Lambert Group is already so powerful that no one can topple them.”

Under George’s reminder, Sherri seemed to have thought of something, and she asked suspiciously, “Then, what’s this for? Does he like me?”

As Sherri thought of that, she was secretly delighted.

However, George glared at her. “Of course not. This is all for his adopted girl, Kathleen!”
