237. You’re So Scared That You’re Seeking Every Means Possible to Keep It Secret

“You lied to Yan Chuyang!” Song Huaiqi interrupted Wei Qing.

Wei Qing face stiffened. After a moment of silence, he snorted, “About what?”

“You still haven’t told him the truth about the donation, have you?”

Wei Qing’s face changed dramatically. With a murderous look in his eyes, Wei Qing enunciated threateningly, “Song Huaiqi, I’ve told you many times. You’d better take that secret to your grave, or I might make a plan about a takeover of your new property company named Wanfeng or something!”

Song Huaiqi’s heart jumped.

He had personally founded Wanfeng Property Company two years ago.

That was his first step to detach himself from his family business. It was the first company that he had founded unaided.

It had always been his dream to be rid of his parents’ authority and build a company on his own.

That company was his first step.

Song Huaiqi had thought that his company was too small to pique Wei Qing’s interest.

After all, even the smallest business of Wei Qing’s was bigger than Wanfeng Property Company.

It came as a great surprise to Song Huaiqi that Wei Qing knew him so well.

Wei Qing knew what Wanfeng Property Company meant to him, as well as how important it was to him, which was why Wei Qing was targeting his soft underbelly instead of the company he currently worked for.

Wei Qing was so ruthless that Song Huaiqi found him frightening.

The office was quiet for two or three seconds.

“You can’t stoop to that.” Song Huaiqi broke the silence. Staring at Wei Qing’s eyes and grinding his teeth, Song Huaiqi said, “Wanfeng Property Company never had any dealings with any of your companies. You can’t break the rules of the industry for personal reasons.”

“Of course I won’t stoop to that,” Wei Qing said nonchalantly, leaning against the back of his chair and swiveling it.

“I’m just giving you a word of warning. You need to understand that you have a soft underbelly as well. Unless you want us both to suffer, you should keep that secret. Don’t worry, as long as you don’t say anything that you shouldn’t say to Yan Chuyang, I won’t make any moves against your company. I know how much that company means to you. You’ve been painstakingly running it for two years, which hasn’t been easy for you. Besides, I’m really not interested in your company. It’s utterly unprofitable. I’d never touch it unless I have to.”

Song Huaiqi paled visibly at Wei Qing’s sarcastic words, but he couldn’t find any words to contradict Wei Qing.

After all, his small company couldn’t hold a candle to any of Wei Qing’s. Its yearly income was nothing to Wei Qing.

But as unimportant to Wei Qing as it was, the company meant the world to Song Huaiqi.

That was his only chance to prove himself to everyone.

Everyone was under the impression that his influential father was the sole reason why Song Huaiqi had been given the position as general manager of the Song group. Therefore, Song Huaiqi felt that he must have his own company and have everybody know that he could found a company without his father Song Qianren’s help.

Wanfeng Property Company had been in business for two years. Though still small, it had been gradually hitting its stride and begun to make a profit. Song Huaiqi wouldn’t let anybody ruin it.

After a long while, Wei Qing broke the silence. “So what’s it gonna be?”

A blue vein in Song Huaiqi’s temple pulsed horribly. After a moment’s silence, he said through gritted teeth, “You have very sharp eyes, Mr. Wei. How did you find out Wanfeng is mine?”

Song Huaiqi had always been very secret about the running of Wanfeng Property Company. He had never told anybody about it. Even the corporate juridical person of his company was one of his most trusted partners. It had been two years, and even Song Huaiqi’s parents were still unaware of the existence of his company. How had Wei Qing come to find out?

Wei Qing smiled and raised the document that he had read a few moments ago. “You can never be defeated if you know your opponent as well as you know yourself. You know about my soft underbelly very well. I need to find out about yours to pose a threat to you.”

Song Huaiqi was beside himself with anger as he heard Wei Qing utter the word “threat” in an indifferent tone of voice. “Are you really so scared of me telling Yan Chuyang that secret?”

Wei Qing’s face darkened. After a moment of silence, he lowered his eyes and said lightly, “I just don’t want things to get complicated. He and I are already married. I want him to stay by my side without having to worry about anything.”

Song Huaiqi snorted, “To be honest, you’re really overthinking it. I never wanted to tell Yan Chuyang the secret.”

Wei Qing raised his head and stared at him with grave eyes.

Song Huaiqi frowned and continued, “If I wanted to tell him, I would’ve done it five years ago, or four years ago, or when I was in college. I had so many good opportunities to tell him. I wouldn’t have waited so long.”

“But you told me only a few days ago that you’d tell Yan Chuyang the truth.”

“That was my anger talking. I said that simply to scare you, and I also wanted to see how you’d react.”

“Well, did my reaction strike you as satisfactory?”

“Humph. Satisfactory?” Song Huaiqi sneered, “Of course it’s satisfactory. You’re exactly what I think you are. You’re so scared that you’re seeking every means possible to keep it secret. I’m very happy because it seems you haven’t won Yan Chuyang’s heart yet. At least you’re not absolutely sure of his feelings for you. You feel that he might leave you at any moment.”

Wei Qing’s eyes darkened. He compressed his lips together and didn’t say anything.

“I’m different from you,” Song Huaiqi snorted, “I’m not hiding anything from Yan Chuyang. Our relationship can last forever. Even if he and I are to stay friends, our relationship would be indestructible. But what did you do? You tricked him into trusting you with a lie. How long do you think a relationship based on lies can last? You know, no secret can stay hidden forever. Even if I don’t say anything about it, your secret would sooner or later be exposed.”

“Wei Qing.” Song Huaiqi stared at Wei Qing’s eyes and, stressing every syllable, said, “I hope you know what you’re doing.”

With that Song Huaiqi turned and walked out.

Wei Qing gave a little sigh. His eyes moved to the folder reposing on his desk. He stared at it for a while, wondering if he was really being despicable.

When the news came out, Yan Chuyang thought that he would get a lot of people’s attention at the campus, but surprisingly, after wandering in the library for over half an hour, he found that not a single person had cast him any odd glances.
