Chapter 9: The Gaze of the Dead

Chapter 9 9. The Gaze of the Dead

At the end of the stairs is an artificial metal gate.

This door cuts off the path between the stairwell and the basement level.

Ideally, the metal gate would block the air flow inside and outside the door, and block the poisonous gas emitted by the undead creatures in the tomb passage of the catacomb.

But now, there are signs of corrosion on the metal gate.

There are a large number of tassel-like corrosion lines on the door cracks and door hinges.

Slight traces of yellow-green poisonous gas are coming out of these damaged places, flowing upwards along the aisle in the stairwell.

Sergeant Myers held the coal lamp and shone it on the door panel.

A faint but somewhat dazzling light reflected from the corroded place.

".The corroded area is very smooth and there are no burrs. It should have appeared in the last dozen or so days."

Sergeant Myers muttered something.

He turned his head and looked at the corporal behind him:

"When was the last time this door was overhauled?"

The corporal took out a diary and flipped through the pages to find the exact date:

"Sir, the last inspection was 21 days ago."

Sergeant Mars nodded thoughtfully:

"Well, that is to say, just a few days after our overhaul, this door was corroded by the poisonous mist behind the door. It seems that there are a lot of undead on the basement floor."

He took out the key of the metal gate, inserted it into the lock hole to unlock the lock, and then grabbed the door handle with both hands:

"Guys, get ready, I'm going to open the metal gate. Sinner 888, come and help me pull the gate open. Remember, after opening the gate, you can't back up without my permission. No matter what happens, You can just keep going or stand where you are."

"Yes, sir."

Li Nuo held the doorknob, his heart beating slightly faster.

He had a bad feeling that the scene behind the door might be a little unexpected.

The heavy metal gate was opened by the soldiers together.

A coal lamp was stuffed in Li Nuo's hand by the soldiers.

Urged by the soldiers' eyes, he stepped into the dark space without light.

As soon as he stepped into the tomb passage on the basement level, the light from the coal lamp was further compressed.

Li Nuo fiddled with the pick to adjust the brightness, then shook his head helplessly.

This ghostly place seems to reject the light.

Even if he turned up the brightness of the coal lamp to the highest level, the light could only hover within one meter of the surrounding space.

Li Nuo could only move forward under conditions that were almost in the dark.

The cold air in the air became thicker, and the billowing cold air penetrated into the criminal soldier's uniform, and swam against Li Nuo's skin, causing him to shiver.

This is a kind of coldness that can penetrate the armor and the body and directly act on the soul, as cold as it can take away all hope and vitality of the living.

Li Nuo gritted his teeth and walked forward bravely.

From the moment he stepped into the metal gate, his deconstruction skills have not been broken.

He couldn't see clearly in the dark, so he could only rely on the information fed back by the system to judge what he passed by.
