91 – Interlude – About the Butler

“Such a conversation, Shaula didn’t expect me to say a word about it. Disappointing.”

A lavishly decorated communal tea party table in the Academy Garden. There were people who had a good time basking in the warm sun.

“I couldn’t tell you because I noticed that Sirius wanted to keep it a secret. Instead, I put animal ears on Sirius’ head. Didn’t you have some fun with that?”

“I think I would have touched Europa all day. How can I stand those fluffy, real ears.”

A family with twelve constellations on the ecliptic, the path of the sun that can be seen in the sky. Since the materials of six families were sitting there, a strange phenomenon occurred where the eyes of those who witnessed the scene as they passed by moved to them again.

“…I haven’t touched it all day…”

“Well, he had ears like that, but he had no choice but to touch them. I also had to be rude to him and put up with trying to touch him.”

“Then… I should have touched it…”

Who would overlook the rare scene in which half of the 12 pillars are talking at the same tea party? Even if they did not know their identities, the eyes of passers-by did not fall off thanks to the appearances of all six sitting people who would not kneel anywhere.

“Still, thanks to Butler Sirius, we were able to save our maid’s brother from darkness. Thank you so much again, senpai!”

The sight of the Virgo family lady standing up and bowing her head to the Taurus family lady made the spectators startled and whispered.

Many speculations have been made as to why she lowered her head, but she was all wrong.

“Okay, it’s okay, so don’t get up all of a sudden and lower your head. It’s not me, it’s my butler’s own.”

“Your senior went out first that day and fought that demon on an equal footing! You were so amazing! I was nervous when Lars fought before, but I didn’t think of that at all!”

“I just came out because I was frustrated because that idiot couldn’t do anything. So please calm down and sit down…”

Europe calms her excitement by cooling her overheated face. Shaula, Nefeli, and Regula, who were watching this, simultaneously lifted their teacups as if they were salting to hide the slightly raised corners of their mouths.

Peaceful atmosphere. If people who knew the social standing of those gathered there would think that there would be constructive conversations in a political atmosphere, but it was just a girl’s conversation.

With a click, as soon as the empty teacup collided with the saucer, Ruitena and Shear filled the teacup with tea from the kettle. As they filled up the thin snack that was barely empty, Aclus’ eyes twinkled and they both heard a word of thanks.

“Aclus-sama, you really look like a doll and even your voice when you talk softly is really cute.”

“Every time I come, the bread and snacks disappear in a blink of an eye. It’s embarrassing, but… I can stand it when I see that appearance.”

The two maids backed away, whispering not to get into her ears. Originally, it was a size that could be heard with her hearing, but since she was concentrating on snacks, the conversation didn’t come in.

“You said that at every tea party…?”

On the other hand, Shear’s expression hardened seriously.

From the natural movement so as not to be awakened by the young ladies’ cheerful atmosphere, checking the empty teacup and enduring the speed at which Shear empties the snacks, nothing was easy.

“Yes. It’s been this way since the tea party that was held after I joined the lady’s maid last year. At first, I was really in awe. If the butler wasn’t there at that time, I would have collapsed long ago.”

As many tea parties were held, she learned from Sirius’ movements and laughed as if she had gotten used to it.

At her words, Shear turned her head and looked around her.

“…Today, but you’re far away.”

I said while watching Sirius wandering around the street a little away from the table. She shook her head and put back the tears she almost shed.

“Because of the academy rule that you can only accompany a knight until the entrance ceremony, you are escorting him instead. Besides, he’s stronger than most knights, so it’s a relief. Even though he’s younger than me, if you’re by his side, I’m reassured.”

Unlike usual, the tea party was held outside because of the majority of people who wanted to drink tea while bathing in the sun. No matter how much he was inside the academy’s fence, he took care of himself and was now far away and wary of his surroundings.

“That’s right…When I went to Tenebris the other day, as soon as I blinked at the nasty thugs…”

“The thieves I encountered before when leaving our estate for the academy…”

The two maids continued a short chat while sharing the sights Sirius had created.

“Come to think of it, I’ve never seen Europa-senpai call Sirius by his first name, right? Hey, I’ve seen him call me a fool or just a butler!”

“…!”

When the atmosphere of the tea party was ripe, Spica, who had seen Sirius passing by in the garden, took turns looking at Europa’s face, and made a sudden and harmless surprise attack.

Hearing her question, Nefeli turned her head and held back her laughter, and Shaula’s eyes widened at her absurd but funny question.

“That…That’s…”

As I slightly turned my head to avoid the burdensome gaze from the other side, I saw a young man with dark hair darker than the shadow under the bright sunlight over the well-groomed grass fence in the garden.

In the well-tended flower garden, his darkly decorated figure was so contrasting that it was inevitable to stand out, and it was impossible to fall out of her eyes.

As I stared blankly at him, I met eyes with Sirius, who was wary of looking around.

Ah, he was about to turn his head when Sirius came over and leaned slightly in front of her in the chair to meet her eye level.

“Did you find it, miss?”

“…I didn’t find it, so go back. I won’t be looking for you today.”

“I thought you were looking for me because you were staring at me earlier. It looks like you’ve been looking for quite some time…”

“I-I didn’t look that hard! I just turned my head for a second and it caught my eye. I’m just going to go fast.”

She waved her hand at him who approached her kindly and dismissed her at the door.

She turned her head to hide her blushing face down to her ears, revealing her face like a ripe apple on an autumn day to the members of the tea party. Seeing her bashful face, Shaula grabbed her nose beforehand.

“Sirius! May I ask you a question?”

“If you have any questions that don’t bother the lady, I’ll answer them wholeheartedly. Mr. Spica.”

Different from the sharp impression he had shown before, he responded with a friendly smile, just like when he was dealing with his owner, Europa.

Seeing that smile, Europa’s heart throbbed slightly, and the thought of wanting to monopolize him slowly rose and then subsided.

She let out a deep breath and calmed her chest, saying she was just giving her an example.

“Since when did you meet your senior? Lars and I have been together since we were 5 years old and have been by your side until now!”

“Hmm…”

Sirius sneakily notices the owner. Just as she was contemplating whether to answer her question, she rolled her eyes and gave her a subtle nod. Not hesitating at her signal that it was okay to answer, she replied.

“I met the lady seven years ago on a street in winter. I can’t forget her white hand and congratulations on becoming her servant.”

“You don’t have to go into so much detail… You idiot…”

She was so shy that white smoke flew over her head, and she stepped on his foot a couple of times, which was located under the table where others couldn’t see.

“Why was it abandoned on the street?”

“I don’t know about that. Even if I try to remember the past, I can’t remember as if someone erased it. Because of that, I forgot my name and my past.”

Even if he was possessed by someone else’s body, even by someone he didn’t know, he couldn’t speak even after death, so he easily passed over as an excuse that was easier than anything else, just memory loss.

“Then the name…Who gave it to you?”

“The lady said she wanted to name it herself, so I picked and chose from several names.”

“You’ve been given such a precious name, but I’ve never seen Sirius called by that name by my senior. What happened!”

At her question full of curiosity, Europa shook her head while holding his sleeve.

Sirius replied with a reassured look on his earnest expression when he told him not to say anything at all.

“The young lady must have some circumstances. But that’s okay. She hasn’t forgotten my name. She calls me sometimes, so that’s enough.”

She answered with a soft smile, and Spica, who had asked her question, as well as Europa and the tea party members, all stared blankly at his face. They were mesmerized by his unprecedented smile.

And the monopoly power that had sunk in her heart was rekindled. Annoyance ran through her head that she had shown others a smile she had never seen before.

“Go…”

“Yes?”

“Get out of here quickly, stupid idiot. Don’t even think about finding me until the tea party is over, no, today.”

She threw off the sleeves of her clothes and even turned her head away. Seeing bright red ears protruding from his long blonde hair, Sirius left, telling the others to have a good time.

As soon as he left, Europa slammed his face on the table, ashamed of being such a child. He murmured curiously, wondering what everyone else was thinking when they saw him with a dazzling smile.

“…What do you all think?…About Sirius.”

The name finally came out of her mouth, but everyone hesitated to answer. After a bit of silence, Shaula answered first.

“I just think of myself as a close friend’s butler. He’s a bit easy to deal with, like a friend of a friend.”

She gave Europa an answer that pleased her, because she was trying to appease her heart, and because she was the one who noticed why she was so angry.

“I’m of the same opinion as Shaula. There’s a lot to learn from her, and she’s a really good butler.”

Nefeli, who was sitting next to Europa, patted her on the back. Among her members, it was Europa who raised her head to her most honest answer.

“Honestly…I covet him, but I’m only looking at his ability. If he’s dissatisfied with your family even a little bit, I wouldn’t even consider bringing him into my family.”

“You’re kidding, right?”

“Yeah, just kidding.”

A smile spread on Europa’s lips at Regula’s joke while raising the teacup.

“…Butler…For buying me bread…Thank you…”

Everyone at the tea party burst into laughter at Aklus’s bread.

“I consider Shear a benefactor who helped us! We are ready to repay our debts whenever we need help!”

With Spica’s last reply, everyone else except for Europa thought in one accord at the tea party where the atmosphere continued to be friendly again.

‘And how can you cut off a relationship between two people who look so good. If someone else says to hang up, I’ll stop it.’

‘Sirius… The bread I bought… I want to eat it again.’

Except for Aklus who is crazy about bread.
