As soon as she heard her voice, Weng Yinlin turned around to look at her. With a smile, she said, “You’re awake, Siyue? You’re just in time. Aunt Song’s soup is just about done. You should drink more of it later, it’s good for you.”

“Thank you, mom.” After Xin Siyue said that with a smile, she turned to look at Chen Sinan, her eyes revealing her dissatisfaction—how could he have the guts to just say anything!

Chen Sinan wiped his hands and walked towards her. “We’re going to have a fine meal tonight. Mom hasn’t cooked for years, but she’s willing to cook up a storm just for you.”

Xin Siyue was surprised. She never expected that the fierce working woman Weng Yinlin would actually have a homely side to her outside of work.

“Let me do it, mom.”

“It’s fine, I’ll be done after this dish. You must be tired, go rest in the living room.”

When Xin Siyue saw Weng Yinlin’s gaze that said “I know how you young people are”, she still felt embarrassed.

When they were done cleaning up after dinner, Xin Siyue and Chen Sinan watched TV for a while with their grandfather. Suddenly, the old man said his fingers were itching for some chess again, so he asked Xin Siyue, “So, my granddaughter-in-law, do you know how to play chess?”

Xin Siyue blinked her eyes and asked, “What type of chess, grandpa? Chinese chess or five-in-a-row?”

“Why not both?” Grandpa Chen suggested.

Xin Siyue paused for a moment. Then, she responded, “Oh, sure. I’ll go get the chess set from the study.”

After Xin Siyue ran upstairs, Chen Sinan who was sitting on the center of the sofa turned his gaze over to give the old man a glance, the meaning in his gaze clear.

Grandpa Chen rocked his chair and laughed. “It’s nice to have a granddaughter-in-law. At least now I can find a chess partner.”

Chen Sinan made no comment. “You should hold back a little, old man.”

Grandpa Chen laughed. “I can’t mess with my own grandson, but playing around with my granddaughter-in-law still seems rather fun.”

On the other hand, Xin Siyue who didn’t think too deeply about it brought the chess set over, set up the game, and after a few moves, clearly felt herself unable to hold on.

She had also played chess with Chen Sinan before, but Grandpa Chen and Chen Sinan were different. If she put on the spoiled or cute act with Chen Zinan, then she could get him to go easy on her that way. Moreover, he tended to go the gentle route with chess that gets you out of nowhere. She was not at all like Grandpa Chen who exposed his murderous aura in just a few moves.

Xin Siyue wasn’t very good at chess so it didn’t take her long to fall into her tragic end.

It was almost as if Grandpa Chen was checking her skill level. When they moved on to five-in-a-row, he had clearly changed his tactics, almost as if he was slowly killing her slice after slice.

These chess games were excruciating for Xin Siyue, and several times, she would look over to Chen Sinan, asking him for help.

Chen Sinan scolded her helplessly, “You idiot!” He was just about to teach her a few tricks when Grandpa Chen at the side stopped him immediately. “Hey! No talking during chess!”

Chen Sinan glanced over to the proud Grandpa Chen, then at his own wife, and could only endure it. He only reached out to hold her hand, stroking it every so often with his fingers.

At the end when Xin Siyue’s entire army was annihilated, Xin Siyue finally breathed a sigh of relief.

Grandpa Chen laughed and said, “It’s been a long time since I’ve played chess with someone so bad at it. You should play chess with me more in the future, hm?”

Xin Siyue agreed with a smile, but when she was about to pack up the chess set, she didn’t expect that Chen Sinan would say, “Old man, let’s play a few games.”

When he heard that, Grandpa Chen was overjoyed. “Sure, come on!”

Ever since he took over the company, Chen Sinan came home less and less, so there was no need to even mention having the time to play a calming game of chess with his grandfather.

And so, Grandpa Chen rubbed his hands together, ready for a fight. But in just a few minutes, Xin Siyue was watching wide-eyed at the completely one-sided chess game, while Chen Sinan stood up and spoke easily, “Let’s go, my wife. It’s time to sleep.”

Grandpa Chen’s face was dark.

Meanwhile, Chen Siyue was stunned. Thank you Chen Sinan for your grace last time.

Chen Sinan huffed to show his dissatisfaction.

But Xin Siyue didn’t care. After she was done eating, she went upstairs to get changed. Only, halfway through, Chen Sinan barged his way in. He leaned against the doorway, watching her change while he spoke leisurely, “After you’re done, let’s go and get our stuff settled.”

Xin Siyue put on her clothes and fixed up her hair before asking, “Settle what?”

Chen Sinan responded calmly, “Our marriage certificate.”

Xin Siyue who was busy trying to tie her hair paused in her movements. She turned around and looked at him. “You’re saying…We’re going to the Civil Affairs Bureau to get our certificate?”

He smiled silently. “If we don’t get it at the Civil Affairs Bureau, then where else will we get it?”

After she heard that, Xin Siyue couldn’t help from smiling. She responded, “But my family’s household register is with my parents.”

“Then we can get it from father and mother-in-law later.”

“Okay.” Xin Siyue stared at him and couldn’t help a smile from crawling up her face.

After taking a trip to the Xin family house, they headed for the Civil Affairs Bureau. In just less than an hour, they were back out again, and Xin Siyue had become a married woman. She looked at the small red book in her hands and felt a little dazed. “Sigh, I’ve finally become a married woman.”

Chen Sinan who was currently backing up the car glanced at her and remarked in a cold tone, “You sound quite disappointed, Mrs. Chen.”

Xin Siyue leaned over to face him and smiled. “But with such a handsome beauty to stay with me for the rest of my life, I think it’s worth it.”

Beauty?

Chen Sinan raised a brow, thinking to himself, I’ll definitely have to deal with her tonight!
