Beyond the Gate

As I always feel, the boundary between humans and other races is thinner than I thought.

We are very similar people. When it comes to elves, I thought that they might be close to inanimate objects to some extent, detached and detached from world affairs, but I had a strong feeling that Rowena-san was unusual or elves were not that different from humans.

It is something that anyone, whether human or elf, is afraid to do.

But what about being an elf? Mr. Rowena was especially afraid. He trembled to the point that he almost lost consciousness.

“Combining the facts known so far, the Citadel Republic is already on the verge of destruction. Now, whoever… even if the three gods come, we can’t save them.”

The Demon King didn’t even show himself, he just sent a bird to do all the work.

If you think about it, that’s pretty scary. Everyone knew that Grimudo could easily bring down a country, but no one feared him because he believed that he would not move unless he touched him.

That belief no longer exists.

What happened once can happen twice. If he can overthrow the Citadel Republic, if he can do it without much effort, why can’t he say that it’s another country?

“If he really moved, the next target would probably be…”

“Is it an empire?”

“No… it must be Elvenheim.”

If this was a deliberate attack, I thought that the Demon King’s next target would of course be the Empire, but Mr. Rowena shook his head. He spoke in a trembling voice.

“Grimudo has always been targeting our Elvenheim. As if our elves were supposed to be dead, time and time again… time and time again, I tried to burn Elvenheim. Even if you don’t get anything like that.”

It wasn’t something you could call a fight. It wasn’t meant to be a fight.

As if I had a chill, the elf woman in front of me trembled.

“Everything we knew… archery or spirit arts… was meaningless. Do you know what it feels like to shoot an arrow into the sea? No matter what we did, we couldn’t slow him down even a little. We survived because he couldn’t do as much as the barrier of the World Tree. There is only one.”

“You mean that Grimudo has already attacked Elvenheim?”

“okay. So I know. There is no hope of defeating him.”

It’s like reminding me of a memory I don’t want to recall. It’s like reliving a nightmare that is vividly remembered even after waking up. The name of this dream, more terrifying than any other nightmare, is reality.

More specifically, the past. The woman in front of me turned blue as she recalled the past.

“So I am always anxious. Such a great being is stalking us, because we elves hide themselves in their carapaces like tortoises and repeat the habit of repeating the words that they are safe.”

The World Tree is a tree left by the Old Gods. With that protection, the elves are absolutely safe inside, Mr. Rowena said.

However, the Old Gods who bestowed that protection no longer answered the prayers of the elves. The god who gave the world tree to the elf had already fulfilled its role as a god and returned to pure law.

“In other words, the inside of Elvenheim is nothing more than a safe zone made under the protection of the Old Gods.”

If so, that’s a dead law. It is no different from the curse of the sun that burned vampires.

Unlike humans, rules are dead, so there are ways to get around.

No matter how much I borrowed the power of the Lord, it was like I was able to save the vampires by piercing the loophole of the sun’s curse.

If the curse itself was alive, or if the self of the Old God who gave the curse was intact, it would be enough to put the curse on the vampire who reconstructed a new body. Living laws cannot be disobeyed, but dead laws have a way to go against them.

Of course, that’s the way it is, which is usually impossible.

but it’s too bad The opponent is the ancient demon king. No one knows the extent of what he can do, so there is no guarantee that Elvenheim will be safe.

“Mr. Rowena thinks that the safe zone may not be safe anymore.”

“Do you know what the Doge of the Citadel Republic gave to Grimudo? It is the fruit of the world tree. Who knows if he will study it and find a way to break through the protection of the World Tree.”

ha. The woman drooped her ears and took a deep breath.

“Of course, you can’t just blame the Andolph McLaren or the McLaren. The people who picked the fruit and sold it to humans are their own people. I don’t know if it would fall into Grimudo’s hands, but if they did, the high elves wouldn’t even care.”

“They are always like that. I don’t know if the sense of crisis has been shattered or fear is because I’ve lived for so long. I believe that the World Tree will do everything anyway. Can you believe it? Even if we searched all over the continent, we would probably be the only ones to be vigilant against that Grimudo.”

Oh, that’s not it. Right now, I know people who have been vigilant against him.

Urinell. Parnell. Lucia. and me. It was only after meeting him in person that he realized that the rumors were rather diminished, but by then it was too late. The continent underestimated the Demon King too much.

But if you think about it again, what would a different evaluation make?

What you don’t know just turns into something you can’t stop even if you know. In that case, it might really be better to just know nothing and think of him as a legend.

“Sir. As the plenipotentiary of Elvenheim, I will respectfully request this. Please come to Elvenheim. The World Tree… maybe not able to protect us in the next attack.”

“Sorry, I have a place to go first.”

“…okay. Because of our brief conversation like this, if you ask for help, no one will help you.”

Mr. Rowena stared at me. It is truly a human response.

The village elders told me when I was young that elves are a race close to fairies, but at least I know they’ve never seen an elf.

“Isn’t it impossible for someone like you to fear death?”

“…?”

“I understand. Grimdo is scary. Who is going to fight the demon king for the sake of someone who has only spoken a few words? It is natural to refuse. I won’t be resentful. I… I just thought it would be different if you were just a priest of the Old Gods.”

“I am not afraid of death or the demon lord.”

I just smiled.

I think you are misunderstanding something.

“Because the place I have to go is beyond the Transmission Gate, the Citadel Republic.”

lowest place. Where there are people who groan. A place for those who seek help.

I am the one who should go to that place. The Lord has awakened me once again this time.

Knowing how your majesty treated me and how the seeds of pride began to grow in my heart that the prince had come to embrace me, he solemnly ordered me to look around me.

Yes, I still have one chance to use Milky Way Blooming Night. Exactly twice, but if you use both, you won’t be left on the ground anymore, so you’re effectively only left with one.

Instead of hastening my ascension, if only I could save those who don’t know how many.

You will be able to accept this deal with a happy smile. I could almost be sure.

“Citadel Republic? What can a priest go there and do? In the face of a scorching volcanic eruption, no matter how great a priest may have… it has no meaning.”

“Didn’t you tell me? If only the King of Monsters could be defeated, there would be no explosion. Even if it happens, it will explode after a while.”

Miracles are miracles because they have a place to be used.

A miracle that is not used, a miracle that does not shine is no different from not existing in the first place. The Lord grants me only the miracles I need.

“Ambassador. Make a deal with me.”

Obviously, the Milky Way Blood Night must also have come to me because it has a place to be used.

So the Lord would have given it to you. Then it becomes clear what I have to do.

“A deal? What suddenly…”

“Help me get through the gate. Then I, too, promise to go to Elvenheim after this is done.”

I must go beyond that, towards the most dangerous place.

It is natural for ordinary people to run away from danger, and they cannot be blamed for that. But not even those who will become priests of the Lord.

I couldn’t.

And I didn’t even want to.

“For now, let’s go to that gate.”

The first thing to do is to listen to the stories of people who come from over there, rather than rush to them. to understand the situation.

Only then will my course be decided naturally.
