Chapter 75: The Purpose to Learn Medicine

Translator: LiamHW

Considering Qin Aye’s physical situation, Song Qinghan did not ask him to stay to lend a hand. What he only needed Qin Aye to do was to give him a sharper caution and suggestion for a careful postnatal care. And then he urged Wu Dahu to send Qin Aye back home.

Helplessly, Qin Aye kept emphasizing that he was fine and nothing should be worried about his physical situation. But he wasn’t tougher than Song Qinghan on this matter, so he gave up staying for further assistance.

After figuring out the disposition of Little Shitou, Wu Dahu found that the child was not that kind of difficult to take care of. Yet the most nerve-wracking things for him was that the child was starved, or felt cold or hot, or was going to pee or poo.

Yuan Wenxuan, as a new “Resident” in this house, was quite sensible and thoughtful. He rushed to cooked and finished preparing the dinner for the other two. And then he grabbed the booklet to somewhere light and spacious and commenced reading it.

To his surprise, the booklet that Song Qinghan owned totally refreshed his world view. He was quite shocked that this handy and tiny shaped booklet had recorded hundreds of thousands information about something like muscle tissues and blood, including some knowledge that he had never acquired from other books.

He never expected that there existed someone in this world who was able to study human body root and branch. But as for the method of studying such a subject, he didn’t dig deeper and think further, because he thought if he clung to this thought, he might conceive a scenario that Song Qinghan was somehow a “man killer” who dug out organs from innocent people for research.

After all, if someone was a manic who showed an obsession studying the structure of human body thoroughly, what else method he could adopt except taking an existing body?

Days after days, in his recovering period, Song Qinghan only got two missions in a whole day: Sleep and eat, just like Little Shitou did. Though he had gained some weight these days, the fine and full rest had accelerated the recovery on the wound on his belly. Two weeks passed, he finally could remove the threads on his skin.

In the process of removing the threads, Song Qinghan asked Yuan Wenxuan to stay aside and by the way, helped him massage.

Yuan Wenxuan stared at the movements on Song Qinghan’s hands as if he wouldn’t miss any detail from the method. With that pair of bright and piercing eyes, he couldn’t help asking, “It seems quite easy to get the thread removed. Patients are able to do it themselves?”

Smiling, Song Qinghan came to ask and test Yuan Wenxuan with some simple questions. He wasn’t surprised at all that Yuan Wenxuan could answer quickly with right answers and he knew this boy had memorized every single detail in that booklet. So he just picked up a rabbit which featured the fattest and strongest appearance from the cage and then put it in Yuan Wenxuan’s hands, saying calmly, “Treat it as a patient, and give it a shot yourself.”

Even though Yuan Wenxuan was born as calm as a freak, he still couldn’t help shivering as soon as he got the requirement from Song Qinghan. He looked down at the obedient rabbit while being rather hesitated, saying, “Ho…how?? It’s not sick at all, I don’t even think it is good for this innocent animal.”

Song Qinghan raised his eyebrows and asked mercilessly, “Then tell me, when do you think you will have a chance to do an experiment? You should know that a mistake on a rabbit is a far cry from the one on human body. They are two totally different concepts. Do you think that someone will really allow you to have your first time manipulating an operation on him without thousand times of trial and error?”

Yuan Wenxuan lowered his head and said honestly, “No.”

And then it was a long while for him pondering. After he was all mentally prepared, he gritted his teeth and responded decisively, saying, “Fine, I’ll do it!”

Song Qinghan delivered an expression of satisfaction and then patted Yuan Wenxuan on his head, giving the boy an inspiration.

Well, in fact, Song Qinghan should let Yuan Wenxuan make trial on any other animals in a much smaller sizes like frogs or mice. But currently it was not the season full of frogs outside in the field while the mice were hard to catch. The only living animal which was the easiest to get was the rabbit in the cage.

Yuan Wenxuan took out his own set of scalpels and disinfected all using liquor and then placed them on the fire for a short while, imitating the movement he had learned from Song Qinghan previously. With all the preparations done, he took aim at the target place at the poor rabbit’s belly.

However, he blindly pursued the fast movement in the beginning. And it was such an action failed him to get the trial smooth. Instead, it got worse. The scalpel cut through the skin on this rabbit along down its belly, it had cut an incision longer than the one he had imagined.

Blood flowed out like a stream of running water from the incision on the rabbit’s belly. With an utter shock, Yuan Wenxuan got frightened all of a sudden while his hands were both trembling and shivering, he couldn’t even hold the needle in hand tightly, let alone use it to sew the wound for this pitiful animal.

Simultaneously, the rabbit commenced struggling painfully while this violent action made the situation worse. The blood flowed out more fiercely.

With that startle, Yuan Wenxuan couldn’t help but burst into crying, he begged Song Qinghan piteously for help, saying, “Master, Master, what should I do? The rabbit, the rabbit is dying…!!”

Song Qinghan didn’t say anything at all, he just quickly disinfected his hands with liquor and then took over the needle from Yuan Wenxuan and commenced operating on the rabbit’s incision.

Not long, the rabbit’s incision was stitched up and sealed tight while no more blood flowed out.

Yuan Wenxuan was dumbfounded while receiving his attention back on the trial, he just stared at Song Qinghan who was wrapping the rabbit’s wound with gauze. With abashment showing on face, he confessed to Song Qinghan, saying in a sorrow tone, “Master… I’m sorry… ”

Seeing that the boy was showing a complexion of complete sadness, Song Qinghan sank into a hesitation, he wondered whether he was being over strict to the boy.

Even if he had already memorized the theoretical knowledge in the booklet, it did not mean that he would be able to take an actual operation right away. After all, he was still a child, it was quite normal for him to be frightened when the blood were spreading all round.

It would be such a bad situation if he got a psychological shadow by that!

Song Qinghan pulled his hand and intended to apologize, saying, “Alright, it’s my fault to urge you to do so. I forgot that you’re still too young. Let’s forget about the trial thing, and we’ll wait until you’re a grown-up.”

Beyond Song Qinghan’s expectation, Yuan Wenxuan shook his head vigorously, saying, “I’m not young anymore, Master. It will be too late if we should wait until I grow up.”

Song Qinghan was quite confused about what Yuan Wenxuan said, and then he asked, “Why will it be too late?”

Yuan Wenxuan paused for a moment and then came to realize that he had said something inappropriate. He lowered his head and said slowly, “I have a playmate in my hometown, and doctor told him that he was not able to survive until he is a grown-up. I just don’t believe that, I want to cure him. And I think if I am able to acquire medical knowledge, I can make it real…”

His lips were pursed into a straight line while his face was showing stubbornness, but Song Qinghan could feel the deep sadness and sorrow from his confession.

Song Qinghan pondered for a while and then asked, “You never think of getting the most famous doctor for him? You should know the fact that even you’ve got an intelligence by natural endowments, you can’t be a rival to an experienced doctor who has spent his whole in medicine!”.

It could be clearly seen that a trace of despair emerged deep in the eyes of Yuan Wenxuan, the boy then shook his head, saying, “That didn’t work at all. His parents had taken him to visit all manners of doctors in various places. But they were just informed by the same answer.”

“But I still don’t believe that he can’t be cured!” He continued to say with his complexion on face changed suddenly, “I believe that there must be some ways to succeed curing him. Those doctors are just too busy to spend their times on someone with an troublesome disease, they just hate it. But I am not! As long as I can acquire medical knowledge, it doesn’t bother me to spend whole my life time on him in order to bring back his health! So I should hurry up as soon as possible!”

Song Qinghan was moved by his words and he got a new understanding of this boy.

This boy was not simple. Not only did he possess the extraordinary willpower and intelligence beyond his peers, he was also very clear about what he was going to do and what he should do.

Realizing this, Song Qinghan nodded with satisfaction and then responded seriously, saying, “Since you’ve made up your mind, we’ll make more practice strictly according to what I have planned. I won’t show any mercy in considering you’re still a young boy, alright? Are you mentally prepared yet?”

Yuan Wenxuan pursed tight his lips, answering decisively, “Yes Master, Thank you Master!”

Although Song Qinghan had promised Yuan Wenxuan, he still decided not to let this boy get the chance to make any operation using his own scalpels. Instead, he took Little Shitou as a model aiming to impart the basic knowledge about the structure of human body to the boy.

Poor Little Shitou! Every time he opened his eyes, he could see nothing but two plump and round heads with two pairs of blinking eyes lingering in the air eyeing him, while the two mouths were chirping without stopping, as if Song Qinghan and Yuan Wenxuan were chanting scriptures.

Well, Little Shitou was still too young to understand what chanting scriptures was, he just thought that these two were having fun with him right away, while waving his own tiny arms and legs joyfully and laughing in happiness.

Half a month later, Yuan Wenxuan’s understanding of the human body has reached a certain level, he already knew that what an organ would be like when it gets pathological changes, but he just had no idea the exact look of every situation because he had never got a chance to see.

Song Qinghan almost recovered from the postpartum care, and now, it was high time for him to consider taking Yuan Wenxuan to see a real case of illness. Only by that could the boy get a further observation

This day, Wu Dahu came back from the town with his eyes shockingly bright. It seemed that he was in a great happiness from head to toe.

Song Qinghan looked at him suspiciously, and then asked tentatively, “What happened? Did you encounter something good?”

Wu Dahu looked around meticulously, taking out a dozen of silver drafts from his chest and handing over to Song Qinghan. He tried to suppressed the excitement in his mind, saying, “All sold! All sold! All the furs were sold out!”

The silver drafts in Song Qinghan’s hand should be light, but it seemed that Song Qinghan now was holding a gold mountain, he said happily, “Are they a big hit in this market? But the coldest period hasn’t come yet!”

He roughly counted the drafts in hands, and found the amount was almost twenty. In other words, they had earned nearly two thousand silver coins from this business!!

Seeing that Song Qinghan rather excited, Wu Dahu smiled even bigger, explaining, “Well, this year is way colder than last year. I wore only one cloth last year on the same date, but this year I should wear two to resist the coldness. Can’t it be a signal heralding a more bitterly cold period upcoming?”

Song Qinghan nodded as if he had known everything. He wasn’t here last year when he was still in the modern world, so naturally, he knew nothing about the weather of last year. In addition, he did not feel cold at all since he got a heated brick bed in his room.

But he was still a little confused and then he asked, “How can it be possible that you’re able to sell them all only within our town? Or did Laifu went to another town at the same time?”

Seeing that Song Qinghan had discovered the key point so quickly, Wu Dahu answered, “You’re right! I should say that it was so lucky for us that Laifu met a noble today. The noble generously acquired some furs of best quality. So with his action, the others crammed into the crowd as if they were afraid the merchandises would be sold out in a flash. That’s why we successfully sold out everything today!”

He was also present when Laifu was selling fur in the other town. He would never forget how those  people became incredibly insane just for a piece of fur. But yet, the craziest one among the crowd should be the noble, the noble didn’t even rush to fight against the others but acquire what he wanted in a rather calm face, as if he didn’t even care about that amount of money.

However, how other people treated money didn’t matter to Wu Dahu at all. Anyway, it was a good thing for him to get money a few months earlier, which meant that he could let Song Qinghan and his child live a good life earlier, and the registration fee for the tournament was enough already.
