241. Chapter 241: The Chosen Horse

The childish words of Little Shitou made Song Qinghan quite sad, with his eyes filled with nothing but sorrow.

Susan seemed to have recall something in his mind, and then he came to utter hesitantly, “You’ve once said that your husband is here too, what happened to him?”

Song Qinghan held the scalpel in his hand even tighter, and he responded, “He was assigned to lead the troop in the frontline, and I just heard that all the members enrolled in that battle had been murdered by the enemies.”

Susan opened his mouth in shock, buzzing his lips as if he wanted to say something. But words failed him to say anything in the end.

Or rather, it wasn’t that he couldn’t say anything, it was that he didn’t want to say anything, because he knew that the power of words was too small, so small that they would be nothing but a tool fanning the sentiment of extreme sorrow.

And of course, he knew everything about the troop in the frontline. Well, it was quite obvious enough to prove something since the horses enrolled in the combat did not come back at all.

Song Qinghan seemed to have seen through his thoughts and he added while still remaining the calmness on his face, “You don’t have to comfort me. I’m here to bid you farewell. And by the way, if you are able to do me a favor, I will be much appreciated.”

Susan was utterly flabbergasted and he subconsciously turned his head to take a glance at the spacious stable, and then turned to Song Qinghan again with concern in his eyes as if he had come to know what Song Qinghan was about to say, “Are, are you going to find him?”, he asked in a trembling tone.

What he could in fact do Song Qinghan a favor was no more than taking good care of Little Shitou in this stable.

But currently Little Shitou was right there with him, so Song Qinghan naturally wouldn’t ask for that for like a second time. The only possibility left should be…

Song Qinghan intended to borrow the horse from him!

Sure enough, Song Qinghan had detected the micro-expression on Susan’s face, he then quickly glanced around meticulously, and then came to whisper, “I need a horse which can run the fastest. You can confess to the responsible leader that I just rob it from you, just don’t get yourself involved in this matter. Anyway, it still remains an unpredictable thing whether I am able to come back or not, so you can just relinquish the responsibility to me.”

Susan sank into a short hesitation, and then he responded tentatively, “But you even know nothing about martial arts, aren’t you sacrificing yourself going alone to the frontline…?”

Even though he did not mention something about ‘death’, Song Qinghan could still completely figure out what Susan meant. He squinted his eyes slightly looking into the distance from a high place while saying slowly, “I don’t mind that at all, I want to see him no matter he is still alive or dead. I don’t believe that Wu… my husband would die so easily, so I should and must visit there by myself. If I am not guessing it in the wrong thought, now the fire must be ceased temporarily in the frontline, and no one will be left there fighting currently except the ones who is responsible to clear the corpses. No one is going to show up there at all, so I am sure I will be fine.”

Song Qinghan’s words were so articulate and logical that Susan could not find a reason to refute him. In this case, Susan had to respond, “What about Little Shitou? Are you taking him with you?”

Well, this happened to be what Song Qinghan was most worried about. After all, his life could be decided by himself all by his own will, and life was too short for him without any leeway to be regretful and mournful. But what about Little Shitou?

If Little Shitou was left here with Susan, at least he could be protected in an all round way without worries. But if Song Qinghan insisted on bringing the baby on the way, he couldn’t even be able to make sure what calamity would await them in the near future.

Baby Little Shitou seemed to have perceived something pervading in the air. He suddenly struggled to exert in the arms of Susan, and then stretched forth his little arms towards Song Qinghan, while shouting aloud, “Femi Dad! Femi Dad! Hug! Hug!”

Susan missed the hug and almost let the Little Shitou fall accidentally, but Song Qinghan was nimble and agile in reaction that he quickly picked Little Shitou up in the air and hugged him over tightly in his arms.

As soon as Little Shitou landed and eventually discovered the peace in Song Qinghan’s arms, he quietened down all of a sudden and leaned against Song Qinghan’s chest, bowing his head to play with his own fingers.

Song Qinghan turned his head to browse at the spacious stable. Noticing that the horse pack almost succeeded gathering at the spot, he came to know that no more time should be wasted. And then he raised his head to stare at Susan with firm decisiveness, “I will bring Little Shitou with me, don’t worry, I will come back soon. I promise I won’t bother myself to be stubborn searching if I fail to find him in the frontline.”

Su San understood his determination and he turned to look at the group of horses. He reached his hand out to hold a maroon horse in front of Song Qinghan and whispered, “The Commander General owns this well-trained horse as his backup choice, and it is not completely tamed by the Commander General yet. But probably you can give it a try since it is the one Little Shitou loves to stroke in the normal days…”

Without waiting for Susan to finish his words, Song Qinghan directly pulled the reins of the horse, stepped on the stirrups and quickly rolled onto the horse. Well, no one would believe that he was indeed an inexperienced horse rider by witnessing his agile movements.

Noticing that the maroon horse did not resist or make any violent movements to get rid of the Song Qinghan’s control, Susan finally came to be at ease in his mind.

But then, when he saw that the people around him noticed Song Qinghan, his nerves were strained once again. He glanced around nervously, and then suddenly an abrupt idea occurred to him in his mind when he noticed a black horse among the horse pack. He sneaked into the flock of the horses and stopped right behind the black horse, he raised his right hand high in the air, and then slapped violently on the butt of the black horse.

The black horse, the most unruly and conceited one among the flock, suddenly became more violent after being so badly “insulted” and, raised its head in the air hissing fiercely, while lifting its front hooves, spurted forward checklessly with its pair of nostrils steaming as if it was about to throw the stable into a complete disorder.

Though the rest of the horses were well-behaved enough, their inborn wildness seemed to be aroused suddenly after the stimulation of the black horse. In an instant, there was a whiff of horse hissing bursting within the stable, which had distracted all the other people’s attention from Song Qinghan.

Song Qinghan had long planned a route in his mind and he covered Little Shitou’s head in his chest, so as to make sure that the wind in coldness wouldn’t make Little Shitou uncomfortable when the horse was running.

Although he did not see what had happened in the stable, he had an inexplicable feeling in his heart that this must have been done by Susan for him, and while he was touched, he felt a bit guilty at the same time.

It would be fine if Susan would not be found guilty by such an action. But if he was found guilty, Song Qinghan would be the culprit incriminating him. If everything finally ended in that way, Song Qinghan would never know how he was able to repay Susan for making such a sacrifice.

Song Qinghan sighed faintly. He stared at the exit ‘near at hand’ with the sorrow in his eyes gradually turned into a decisive one. He waved the rein in his hand high in the air, shouting to the horse, “GO!”

The horse seemed to be quite psychic, and when it saw the interceptors in front of it, it suddenly raised its front hooves and hissed, then turned and ran to the other side before they could react, and quickly ran out before that.

“Catch him! Don’t let him escape!” the shout behind Song Qinghan faded away in distance. With satisfaction, he reached out to stroke gently on the horsehair on the maroon horse’s strong neck, and whispered softly, “Take me to meet  him, please…”

However, this horse had never been on a battlefield after all, and did not know the exact location of it. It just wandered around with all its feelings without fearing the corpses along the way. Even though the blood-tainted ground had dyed it with kind of evil spirits, the ambience made it be even more of spirituality. It hissed and wandered amid the myriad of bodies, a sense of misery was hidden within.

Song Qinghan himself only had a general impression, knowing that since the Charge Battalion was called the Charge, it would naturally be at the front of the line, so he kept pushing the horse forward until he saw the appearance of the barbarians.

Those barbarians were assigned to clear up the corpses here. So when they caught a glimpse of a spiritual maroon horse right in front of them, they all became vigilant there, lifting the weapons in their hands and posturing as if they were protecting themselves.

When they noticed that Song Qinghan was no more than a femina male, they put down the weapons one by one even though they still felt quite confused in their minds, and continued their movements.
