Chapter 237: They Were Released

Translator: LiamHW

“Wait, what? So, so how do you… know about that?”, those guards were all flabbergasted, with their eyes opening wide.

What they only knew was that Wu Dahu got a husband at home and treated him equally and good. And as for the actual name of his husband, no one dared or had a mood to be curious to ask for the information. After all, they probably would never meet each other again after the end of the war one day.

Song Qinghan touched his nose and answered softly, “I had seen Lord Wu and his husband as well as their son when I was at Yueban City before, I almost thought they were calling me at the time, then I thought it probably was pre-destined, so that’s what impressed me.”

The guards revealed a look of understanding and did not pursue any further details, glancing at each other as if they were probing each other’s thoughts.

They would not suspect Song Qinghan of lying to them. After all, no one would be that foolish to tell a lie since the answer was quite easy to be found. Besides, Song Qinghan was no more than a femina man living a bitter life with a baby child, what would the benefit for him to tell a lie tough?

Song Qinghan seized the chance to rub the corner of his eyes purposely as the guards were paying little attention over him. And it was not until he felt his eyes turning red-rimmed did he raise his head again and continued to utter, “Lord Wu is just missing his husband so much. Don’t you think that you’re going to disappoint him if you guys give him the hope in the very beginning and then smash it ruthlessly without mercy? He must be much upset once he finds that I am not the one he longs to see. And at that time, what do you think you’re going to do if he really gets mad?”

The guards were carried away by his logic, none of them bothered to think about why exactly Wu Dahu was looking for Song Qinghan. Nodding along, the head among the guards eventually gave him an ambiguous answer, “Fine, then we’ll see how it goes, and if the matter isn’t important, we’ll help you keep it a secret.”

It was indeed an unexpected surprise to receive such an answer, so Song Qinghan did not urge them to make further promise. He nodded as well, saying, “Your assistance will be much appreciated!”

Since the guards had finished their inquiries, they rushed back to report to Wu Dahu. But before they did, the head among them came up to ask in a caring tone, “Lord, do you miss the Mistress?”

Wu Dahu paused, not being bothered by their transgressing question, but answered in a deep voice, “Sort of, have you found him yet?”

Noticing that things were really evolving as Song Qinghan said, the guards exchanged their glances, and the head answered subconsciously, “Lord, we haven’t got any news from the Mistress yet.”

Well, as for the guards, such an answer wasn’t a wrong one though since Wu Dahu was looking for his ‘REAL’ husband instead of the one who got the same name. After all, in their opinion, the ‘Song Qinghan’ in the army camp was not the actual one Wu Dahu was looking for.

They had never thought of any connecting point between the ‘Song Qinghan’ at presence and Wu Dahu’s husband, because in their points of view, ‘Song Qinghan’ would never be on duty to clean the chamber pot if he was really the husband of Wu Dahu. And for the other, it would be quite baffling for them to be a loud hailer in between since it was a feasible way for the two to meet each other if they wanted to.

After hearing this answer, Wu Dahu got his eyes dimmed as dark as a cloudy sky and he couldn’t tell what he currently felt in his heart. It was just like a five-flavoured bottle had been tipped over, all sourness, sweetness, bitterness, spiciness and saltiness were mixed right in his mixing feelings.

It turned out that Song Qinghan had not really come with him. So, what actually happened last night then? If things were totally beyond his imagination, then he must have mistaken the other as Song Qinghan…

But judging from the marks on the bed and Jiayi’s words, what happened last night was clearly not his imagination, so …

Wu Dahu waved his hand abruptly motioning the guards to leave the tent, and then he clenched his fists and put them on both his knees, acting fiercely like he was struggling to suppress the disgust in mind.

If he really had done something betraying Song Qinghan, he would be even more upset even if he won the final victory of the war. Now he was sinking into a dreadful and long self-accusation, he felt so guilty in mind when he was thinking of Song Qinghan and Little Shitou.

‘Bang!’, with a big noise burst, his fist sank deep into the table, and the veins on the back of his hand were exposed, revealing his anger and regret.

Since the guards did not come back anymore to make any further investigation, Song Qinghan finally heaved a sigh of relief knowing that this event eventually had turned over.

It seemed that drunken people really did not remember anything, and it was good enough to have a vague memory.

The day returned to peace and after the Commander General recovered from his injuries, he summoned Song Qinghan over.

Once again when the Commander General met Song Qinghan, the expression on his face seemed to have been shifted against the one from the previous period. He delivered a wry smile, saying, “So are you the husband of Wu Dahu?”

Song Qinghan didn’t expect to be able to hide his identity to the Commander General from the beginning till the end. After all, with his skills, staying in the Chamber Pot Team was a matter rather creepy enough , and anyone with the slightest intention would have pried into his background, let alone someone as meticulous as the Commander General.

He made a bow paying his salute while answering, “Yes, I am, Lord. It was indeed my original intention and suggestion to come here with Wu Dahu together. But the idea was completely denied by him since he was quite concerned about me and his child. In that case, I had to hide it up and do it all by myself.”

The Commander General could completely understand Wu Dahu’s worries and Song Qinghan’s determination, so he did not say anything about the matter itself. After all, he indeed had to be grateful for the decision Song Qinghan had made not being obedient to Wu Dahu’s request, because Song Qinghan was the key to his recovery from the serious physical trauma.

“Well, since you’ve done a good job here, what reward do you want? Reunite with Wu Dahu? Or do you want to go back directly? I am not going to mention something like coins and jewelry because I know you must have no desire for that at all.”

Song Qinghan delivered a slight smile and then answered calmly, “I appreciate that, Lord. Since I’ve chosen to hide it up not intending to tell Dahu about my presence, I should make it a success till the end. Otherwise, what I have done might go down the drain. Besides, if I show up right now in front of him, he would be influenced mentally more or less, which is no good at all for the fight.”

Seeing how well thought out he was, the Commander General did not say anything more to persuade him, and only silently gave the couple a credit in his heart, ready to report back after the war was over.

When Song Qinghan walked out of the Commander General’s tent, he found that the lecherous commanders who had been locked up in the prisoner camp had been released, and by the direction they were walking, they were heading to see the Commander General.

Song Qinghan thought for a moment at the spot he was standing with a flash of worry showed up between his eyebrows, he then lifted his steps towards the army doctor area.

Of course he knew that the battle had taken heavy losses and the generals did not have enough men, so naturally he had to use up all the available talent, but the situation of those few men was different.

It would have been fine if they had no problems with Wu Dahu, but they clearly understood that they had been sent to the prisoner camp by Wu Dahu and had lost their official positions as a result.

Under such circumstances, it was hard for Song Qinghan not to believe that they would not do something secretly behind his back.

After he entered the army doctor area, he went to see the first wounded general as usual, and seeing that the guy was all rosy on the face, he smiled and said, “I don’t even have to check out the wound on you and I’ve already known that you’re almost recovered now. Your rosy complexion is giving me the answer, like you’re drinking alcohol?”

Of course the wounded man knew that the alcohol or wine thing was completely a forbidden food for himself, he hurried to explain in case that Song Qinghan would misunderstand, “No, I don’t even have a gut to drink that stuff, it has been a hard time for me already to finally get back the senses, and I am all eagerness to recover to my original state! As for the complexion of mine, haha, I am just too excited. Lord Wu is so wise to have such a strategy, and it is a HUGE hope for all of us.”

Song Qinghan was cheerful when the others were praising his husband, he felt like he was being praised at the same time. But just at the thought of the last scene he saw, he couldn’t help but shake his head in resignation, asking, “Do you know something about those lords who were captured by Lord Wu? Do you know how they will be treated by the Commander General?”
