Chapter 121: The So-called Village

Translator: LiamHW

A gust of chaotic noise sounded outside on the street, and the lodge keeper hurriedly closed the door, trying to make a false form that this was actually a ghost-haunting lodge.

Song Qinghan knew nothing towards everything just happened, yet he knew it wasn’t something good. So he stood up and was about to return to his room.

At this moment, the door was smashed from outside. A group of big and tall men walked in along with the sound of blowing wind with snow.

“Well, well, close the door? Do you really think that it will work? What a dumbass!”

A rough voice sounded, seemingly it was an uncivilized bandit.

The lodge keeper hid under the counter, trembling. He didn’t dare to make a sound, not even a fart, as if he had forgotten the presence of himself.

Song Qinghan withdrew his gaze and continued to walk upstairs.

“Hey, I’m talking to you! Are you deaf?”

A stool suddenly flew over to Song Qinghan, but when it was about to hit Song Qinghan, it exploded in front of him and became a pile of flying wood chips.

When he saw that Song Qinghan was standing on the spot without dodging, surprise flashed across the man’s face. He raised his eyebrows and said, “Interesting, come over here!”

Song Qinghan slowly opened his eyes and said calmly, “I’m just a passerby. I don’t have anything you need.”

And then, he kept walking upstairs in calmness, he acted like he didn’t worry that the man would throw another stool over.

“Hey, how dare you not to listen to our Master! I’m going to give you a lesson out of my kindness.”

“That’s right! You guys go to the back side of this lodge, don’t let him escape by jumping off from the window!”

“…”

However, the so-called master of this group raised one of his hands suddenly, making a gesture of “STOP”, and then urged loudly, “Get your ass in gear to get something else! But leave this guy alone!”

“Yes, Master!” the group answered in a same voice after they received the order from the master, stood at attention, scattered suddenly in discipline and then commenced searching around in this lodge.

The master stood on the spot for a while before suddenly walking towards the counter. He bent down and lifted the lodge keeper who was trembling under. He grinned ferociously, “Poor little rabbit, how come every time you just hide in here? Are you trying to lie to yourself instead of lying to me, huh?”

The shopkeeper wrinkled his face in grievance and stammered, “Ma… Master, please sparse my life! I got a plain achievement in this slack season, I got a husband, I got children and parents… Please, I am not able to…”

“Shut up!” the master roared suddenly. He paused for a moment as if something in his mind occurred to him the next moment. His eyes narrowed as he raised his chin turning his face to the ladder, saying in an inexplicable tone, “Wait, do you know who the femina man is up over there just then? And where is he heading to?”

The lodge keeper hadn’t reacted at first and was about to ask who the master was talking about. But suddenly, the image of Song Qinghan popped in his mind, and then he answered with all excitement on his face, “OH, that one?! I have no idea since he just arrived here not long. But he did ask me something about snowlotus from the ice mountain and the exact location of them. I told him that I had never seen such a thing before, how am I supposed to know that. He said nothing, but ordered a full table of dishes, as soon as he finished, you arrived.”

“Snowlotus from the ice mountain?” the master repeated, his eyes were full of evil brightness, and then he murmured, “Well, then just use this as a bait.”

All the Flying Eagle Village members gathered again in the lodge after they exploited the whole town.

The master among the team slowly walked up the stairs with his hands folded behind his back. He stood in front of the room where the lodge keeper pointed at. He knocked on the door twice gently and cleared his throat, “Do you mind me asking if you are coming here for the snowlotus, childe? It happened that we got a place where the snowlotus grow around our village, would you follow us to have a look?”

The door creak opened, and gradually Song Qinghan showed up inside in front of the master. And then Song Qinghan asked with full of seriousness, “Are you serious?”

Seeing that such a ‘bait’ was effective, the master suddenly smiled in brightness, “Of course I am serious. As the head of the whole Flying Eagle Village, what will I get from lying to you?”

Though Song Qinghan found the trace of exaggerated expression on the man’s face, he still accepted the deal after a while of dither, he nodded and answered, “Alright then, I will follow you and take a look. If you’re telling a fake news, you will know the feeling of ‘the loss outweighs the gain’.”

Seeing that Song Qinghan showed even more anxiety than he did, the master walked down the stairs directly. He rubbed his chin and finally laughed and shook his head, “The loss outweigh the gain? I would love to see how this works!”

The members of Flying Eagle Village saw that their master had ‘deceived’ this young and beautiful femina man without wasting any strength. They couldn’t help but look at each other in astonishment, with admiration in their eyes.

At the moment Song Qinghan got out of the lodge, he thought he had gotten his eyes blurred when he noticed a group of husky in line which were waiting obediently in front of the lodge.

The master of the group caught a glimpse of the astonishment on Song Qinghan’s face, and then he explained in complacent, “This kind of dog is capable of running in the snowfield freely. No one is able to get them except us in the Flying Eagle Village.”

“Come on,” He jumped on the sleigh and then stretched forth his hand towards Song Qinghan, “Get on!”

Of course, Song Qinghan wasn’t that kind of weak that needed anyone else to support him to get onto the sleigh. Even though he never got onto a sleigh before in modern time, it did not mean that he never saw it. What shocked him the most was that it was out of his expectation that such a method was actually adopted in this ancient time as well.

After everyone sat down, the master whistled and all the husky spontaneously commenced running. Although they didn’t run that kind of freely as the master described, they were much faster than the speed of people walking in the snow.

Yet, speaking of the speed, it was rather tottery either. Song Qinghan could clearly feel that his organs almost fell out from the vibrant shake, especially his stomach as he just finished his meal not long.

Seeing that Song Qinghan’s face was a bit pale, the master took out a cigarette-pot-shaped gadget from his pocket and put it under Song Qinghan’s nose. He shouted, “SNIFF IT, AND YOU WILL BE ALL FINE.”

Just as Song Qinghan smelled the fragrance which was triggering his nerve of excitement, he knew that it was something good. He quickly took it over and sniffed it heavily in enjoyment.

A smell similar to mint rushed into his brain, as if such a fragrance had gotten through all the nerves in his body. With a cold quiver, all the depression lingered in his organs dissipated suddenly while he got a brighter mood in mind.

Things will definitely reverse in an extreme situation. Song Qinghan knew deeply the principle. Even though he loved the smell so much, he still chose to put down the gadget after the third sniff of it, and then he commenced adjusting his own breaths, and adapting to the fierce shake of from the sleigh.

Surprise flashed across the master’s eyes when he noticed that, and an admiring smile appeared on his face.

The sleigh stopped after a long while, and Song Qinghan had no more strength to stand up from the seat, he struggle to get off the sleigh and squatted aside, panting. It was not until he adjusted his breath for like thousand times did he finally supported himself while straightening his knees in a great strength, and then deliver the gadget back to the master.

Though the master once again got the refusal after he stretched forth his hand wanting to help, he did not feel angry at all but instead he smiled, saying, “Do you know what it is? You might get addicted to it if you dare to sniff it for the fourth time.”

Song Qinghan was stunned and he got his heart tightened, frowning and asking, “Is it opium poppy?”

The head looked even more surprised and he raised his eyebrows, saying, “It seems that you know a lot, but as far as I know, only Flying Eagle Village grows opium poppy in a radius of 100 miles, so how do you know about this plant?”

Hearing that the so-called Flying Eagle Village was planting a scale of opium poppy, Song Qinghan got his eyebrows sank heavily. He asked seriously, “But hey, are you aware of the harm of this stuff? What’s your aim to plant something like that?”

Noticing that Song Qinghan was putting on an expression of seriousness, the master restrained the smile on his face either and said in a low voice, “The place where the Flying Eagle Village locates is rather special. Getting injured for the residents in our village is kind of an ordinary fare. AND, as for what you just mentioned, the opium poppy is an essential medical ingredient for us. That’s why we keep it as our custom.”

Song Qinghan looked away and examined the surrounding environment. He suddenly understood what the master meant by describing the place as a ‘special’ one.

It probably would not be a precise word to describe the place as a place of queerness, but the word “Terrible” would be the one to better demonstrate. The shacks were made of some causal woods being built at the halfway of the snow-covering hill. It would be a big disaster for these residents if they encountered a troupe of beasts, let alone the snowslide.

He frowned and asked in confusion, “Why do you guys choose somewhere like here? Can’t you find a place at the foot of the hill?”

The master smiled leisurely, and an inexplicable emotion rose in his eyes. He responded slowly, “This is an honorable mission we inherited from our ancestors, we should and must take this mission. It’s a long way to go, and, it is a way we are long accustomed to.”

Song Qinghan paused and remain his silence for a long while. After all, he could draw a conclusion from what the master just confessed that something might have happened in this village, and he shouldn’t ask further as an outsider.

But there was one question he had to ask, so after looking around a few times, he frowned and asked, “So, where does the snowlotus grow here?”

Now it was the turn for the master to remain a long while silence. Under Song Qinghan’s gaze, he scratched himself on the head, chuckling and saying, “Well, listen, it is just a legend I heard long ago. As for the exact location… Let us find out the answer ourselves.”

Then, he ran away like he was afraid Song Qinghan would bother to ask him for a further information.

Staring at the back of the master who was running away and disappearing in sight, Song Qinghan turned his head to look at the white snow which was with unfathomable edge. He knew nothing but the fact that he couldn’t get rid of this area only by his own legs. So he sighed heavily and followed slowly towards the group. He decided to stay here for a short period and get to acknowledge more information about the snowlotus. As long as he could get more information, it wouldn’t be a wasteful trip.

Seeing Song Qinghan was coming up, the master put on a wicked smile on his face, and then he approached to Song Qinghan and pulled Song Qinghan’s hand, greeting the residents with a bright smiling face.

The skin of the people living here is somewhat cracked, some of them even become as dry as bark. Therefore, when they saw Song Qinghan, a lively femina male who got a chubby and ruddy face with fairly-white and smooth skin, they couldn’t help but smile kindly.

At first, Song Qinghan was still a little impatient. But when he found out that the people here were not as vicious as he imagined, he let go of his guard and tried to accept them.

However, not long as they walked on the road, a skinny man popped up from aside suddenly, blocking Song Qinghan’s way forwards. He laughed as stood with arms akimbo.

The master hurriedly stood in the middle between the man and Song Qinghan. Noticing that the man rolling back and forth on the ground without reason after a while of laughing, he got his face sullen suddenly, saying, “Did Goudan smoke too much?”

An older femina male stumbled along approaching, dragged the so-called ‘Goudan’ on the ground suddenly while crying, “Master, please! Please offer one more chance for Goudan! He is not a dumb kid and he will definitely learn to be good. I’m so heartbroken every time I saw him hitting himself against the wall.”
