A Story of Evil

Chapter 157: King and Queen

"Darling I'm home ~"

Jubilee entered Pandora's core with this merry greeting. The area has upgraded much from how it looked before. The main reason for this is because, Lilia and Jubilee finally had more supplies to work with. Thus allowing them to make the necessary changes in order to secure a better home for Pandora the Seraphim.

The creature in question was still on the same cylindrical glass container. But there was a large difference to how she looked before. Specifically, two of her wings were finally fully healed and, her whole physique was finally restored. She still looked old and beaten down but, it was nevertheless better compared to all the years before.

On the left and right side of the cylinder were cores. The same ones which Jubilee collected from Kingsley and Herald. Although corrupted, these same orbs contained some of the divine energy which Seraphims fed on. Slowly, Pandora was accumulating these to her body, regaining more of her strength and her powers.

"Why aren't you responding darling? Are you mad at me?" Jubilee merrily walked into the room. He wasn't talking to Pandora of course, although the Seraphim was admittedly amused.

The one which he was speaking to was none other than the Void Queen. A person who was forced to stop writing on the pad she was holding. Giving an irritated glare at Jubilee as she gave a response.

"Is that your new way of torturing me? Using sweet words to creep my whole existence?"

"Awe come on. I placed a lot of emotion into that greeting. The least you could do is to pretend that you liked it."

"We both know that love isn't what binds us together buddy. Anyway did you get what I asked?"

"Of course I did." Jubilee snapped his fingers. Making a stack of papers come out of thin air. Teleporting these straight form his office using space magic.

Both the king and the queen wore black lab coats over their normal clothes. Both preferred not to use any armors nor the clothing worn by the nobles when they were simply doing research. These are bulky and uncomfortable plus, the said clothing didn't feel right whenever they were researching.

At that moment, the two were doing exactly this. Lilia read through the files one by one. Making sure that she had the numbers and the probability all figured out. Meanwhile Jubilee went to Pandora, activating [Reverse Analysis] to see how much rune the Seraphim was able to deplete out of the corrupted cores.

"So how long will it take for your promise to be fulfilled."

"Not long actually. If we continued with this pacing I'll be able to bring the future that you want."

"It's not gonna be much of a future for me if I'm not part of it though."

"Yeah I guess you're right. But it's not like we're relevant in what we want to create."

"That's also true."

Nobody else knew of the promise that bound Jubilee and Lilia together. Nobody could explain how a shut in such as she was forced out of her comfort zone. But then again, nobody really tried to figure it out.

Everyone is too preoccupied with the paradise given to them. They have their sights on what is given to them. No more, no less. And even those that tried to decipher things didn't have enough clues. Nor could they begin to understand how grand of a scheme everything was.

"These orbs won't last long. I'll need to kill more from the first generation."

"You say that like it's easy to pick them out."

"Of course it isn't. In fact, the ones I saw were definitely way outside what I could handle."

This was the reason why Jubilee needed to give them the formula. He knew that there may not be enough of the first generation which has devoured a Seraphim. If he tries fighting the remaining emperors, then things will simply end badly for him.

"I need as many of them as I could get. Enough to restore Pandora back to her full strength."

"There's not much we can do about it though. They'd need someone smart enough to create what we placed on that formula. But even then they'd still have a hard time." Lilia said in reply, making the king smile at him.

The queen is smart. She wasn't on the level of Sol or the king but, she didn't need to. Her brightness was focused on a different field. On mechanics. On machines of the past and how to bring them to the present.

But even with her head preoccupied on this, she could still match the king's line of thinking. Without breaking a sweat, she could catch where Jubilee's thoughts were going. But she wasn't planning to stay on Jubilee's world. She had her own little world where she caves herself in. And this was the only thing of interest to her.

"Anyway, with the report you gave me, we really need to get more mana crystals. Like a whole castle's worth."

"Is it that bad?"

"Of course it's that bad. We've forced those runes outside the domains and even expanded it. Even with Pandora activating it, the integrity of the wall is difficult to keep."

"That sounds reasonable enough. But we shouldn't worry much, not with those kids being on the job."

"Yeah. That kid is scarier than you."

"He should be. The fate of this world lies on his shoulders after all."

"Isn't that too much of a burden for a kid?"

"Isn't all of this too much of a burden for two adults who know that nobody would even thank them in the end?"

"Fair point."

The two began laughing their hearts out. Not because there was anything to be happy about but because of the opposite. They laughed because of the miserable fate which they were forcing on themselves. They laughed because there was nothing good that awaited them. It was a crazed laughter which only they could share. But even this moment needed to be cut short as Pandora's eyes opened up.

The Seraphim created a living shadow right away. Making the monarchs look at the entity which bound them to the same fate they laughed about.

"You know it's really not my style to break in when people are having fun but, there's stuff we need to do."

"Too late for that." Jubilee said.

"So what do you have for us this time Pan?" Lilia asked, eager to know what intel the Seraphim was able to gather.

"There's a slave trading going on deep underground. You should check that out soon."

"Inside our own domain?" Jubilee asked to make sure.

"Of course its inside our own domain. Where else would it be in?" Pandora rhetorically replied.

The shadoweaver then created shadow runes focused on one point. Swirling until it turned into a proper portal which, only a shadow soldier could access. Hence, this was available for only one person in the room. Jubilee.

It was good that Pandora came at that time because, the king was also finished with his business with Lilia. Although the queen did show a bit of concern for her partner who seemed to not have any rest at all. But she didn't talk about this, knowing that King Jubilee will just make fun of her if she ever mentioned it.

"Anything else you need before I leave?" The Void King asked.

"I think I'm good for now."

There were a lot of things that Lilia needed. In fact, there wasn't a shortage on what she required. But for that moment she decided not to add to the things which Jubilee needed to concern himself with.

"Are you sure? I mean I'd probably finish there really fast."

"Yes I'm sure you idiot, now run along. I still need to go back to my research."

"Hey I'm just concerned."

"So am I. Now go, we both have a lot of things on our plate."

"Fine." Jubilee said as the shadows covered him immediately. Leaving not a trace of him as his whole presence vanished. Leaving the queen who did as she said – returning to the papers and removing thoughts of everything else.
