A Story of Evil

Chapter 140: A Short Visit

"Sol I'm here!" Alice said, running after the two as soon as she finished cleaning up.

"Wait, where's Jade?" She asked; looking around and finding not even a shadow of the flame user.

"He left. Said he had somewhere to be." Sol said, deciding to refrain from telling Alice the details for the time being. Thinking that he should confirm everything first.

In fact, Sol's mind was already beginning to put together what he knew. All the pieces of information he had of the king. In speech, in act, and everything else in between; including secondhand information.

"Hey boy genius, you're spacing out." Alice waved her hand in front of Sol's face. Making the boy smile as he looked at her.

"Was I? I didn't notice." He simply said as the female paladin stared more intently at her.

"Well it doesn't matter now. Just treat me to the desserts they have in the shop and we'd be even." Alice said as she sat down; accepting no other response from Sol who asked:

"Uh...even how?"

"Don't ask a lady about the specifics and just do it!"

"You really love forcing people to do what you want huh? Fine." Sol said, calling the waiter again. Gazing at the mirror and seeing a reflection of himself as he continued with his train of thought.

...

...

...

The late Queen Octavia's household is the second biggest in the domain. With the Pendragons having just a bit of advantage over them.

When it comes to riches however, they have the house of the king completely beat. With gates made of pure silver at the front of the estate. Connected to the red brick walls that marked the whole expanse of their territory. Stacked so high up that it was impossible to see clearly what was inside.

Inside this was King Jubilee. Walking together with the attendants of the house who gave glares. Hateful ones which showed how much the despised the king for what he did to Octavia. The Void King didn't mind however. It wasn't like emotions such as hate affected him anymore.

But this didn't they weren't bothersome, because they were extremely so. Especially the parents of Octavia. A couple who slammed the doors of the mansion open at that moment. Offering not a shred of welcome for Jubilee. While giving their abundance of discontent.

"What are you doing here you scoundrel?" Lord Elan asked.

The elderly couple wore nothing but shades of black on them. Both still mourning the loss of Octavia. With Elan wearing a gray long sleeved button down, covered by a deep black overcoat. His trousers matched the color of this while, his boots were of an even darker shade.

The lady of the house wore a semi-transparent dark veil which hung over her black Victorian bonnet hat. Her dress was slightly loose, allowing room for breathing - needed by her old age. There were no frills on the skirt part. Simply falling down in an almost straight line.

The presence of these two demanded respect. Something which Jubilee both knew and felt. Making him take a bow before speaking.

"I've come to pay a visit to my son of course...father."

"Do not call me that! You have no right to refer to me that way! Not after what happened to my daughter." The lord of the house said. His blood boiling from a seething rage.

"Well what do I call you then? It's not like we have not been bound by the courts of law."

"SILENCE!" The old man commanded. His tone of voice roaring and audible throughout the whole expanse of the property. Normally, this was enough for a commoner to shy away. In fact, Lord Elan even remembered Jubilee being the type to be frightened by his authority. Making him believe that he has asserted his dominance.

However, as the Void King looked at him, there was nothing. Not a shred of emotion could be read from Jubilee's face. And in a voice just as static as his expression, he said:

"No. You shut up."

"How dare you speak in that tone to my husband!" Lady Eleanor rebuked.

"How dare I? You must be forgetting something here. I am the King of this Domain. You may be the father of Octavia – "

"You have no right to call her by name!" Lord Elan added.

"I am the King of the Void. You are under my rule. Now you can choose to keep this violent act in front of the absolute authority, or I can force you all to submit."

At this point it should have been clear to the elderly couple what to do. But their heads were clouded by their rage. Preventing them from seeing what is supposed to be an easily rational choice.

"Guards!" Lord Elan shouted, with the said attendants of the house obeying this summon. Surrounding the king and pointing their weapons at him.

"There is no room for conversation here. You let our daughter die. You allowed her murderers to roam free and even raised them to the status of paladins!" Lady Eleanor said.

"The bishop was right. You truly are the spawn of the devil." Lord Elan added, with King Jubilee sighing as he was left with no choice at that moment. With them refusing his generosity, the king finally resorted to showing his authority as he said:

"Kneel."

Everyone felt the force of gravity increase on them. Much more so to the guards. Everyone was forced to their knees, using both as they tried their best not to be forced flat to the ground. Jubilee emitted his bloodlust at that moment, making everyone shiver from fear. As if the Void King was not human but, something more sinister.

But Lord Elan refused to bow down. He refused to be docile for the sake of his daughter – his lips opening up as he began mouthing a command. But even before this had a voice, Jubilee warned:

"Choose wisely old man."

Things could have gotten worse. In fact, it was beginning to be so. That is, until a person's silhouette came closing in from inside the manor.

"That's enough." The figure made Jubilee release his spell because he knew whom it was from – Prince Jules.

The son of the Void King stood in the middle of his grandparents. Helping both up as he kept a threatening glare to his own father.

"Jules, I'm glad to see that you're safe." King Jubilee said.

"Stop it with the hypocrisy old man. If you really cared about me then you should've died during your trial."

Jules couldn't let go of the humiliation he felt that day. Just when he thought that things were finally getting better for him and his mother, Octavia was killed. And not by any random stranger. But by the same boy who was assigned to head the plantation together with him. A person whom King Jubilee was quite acquainted with.

It was an understatement to say that Jules hated Solomon at that point. No. He didn't simply hate the boy; he despised him. For taking the attention of King Jubilee and, for killing his mother.

Of course Jubilee understood this. He knew why his own son was seething with anger for him. But that didn't mean that he was going to stop. Because there was no reason for him to do so.

In fact, he wasn't even going to apologize. No. Jubilee lectured Jules.

"Well I would've loved to step down, except you're completely incompetent son." Jubilee said with a smile on his face.

"What did you say?"

"See? You can't even hear me the first time."

Jules was pissed even more. Yet instead of allowing him to move, Jubilee activated his gravity magic again. Forcing his own son to kneel and bow down. With all the attendants and the lords of the house being forced to the same posture.

"You think you'd get the throne just because my blood runs through your veins? You'd be a fool to believe that I'd stick to the old ways and tradition which we've always upheld. In fact, Sol is a better heir to the throne than you."

"What did you say?"

"Why do you think I've given those orphans the right to carry my household's sigil? I'm preparing them to rule the Void."

"YOU ASSHOLE!" Jules screamed, still unable to move an inch.

"You should be grateful I'm not decapitating all of you for treason. Anyway, I'm only here to see if you are still alive. Just tell me if you want to be disowned, I'll be more than happy to throw away an incompetent trash like you." King Jubilee was done with them. He had what he needed and decided to finally leave.

Meanwhile, Jules was doing his best just to stop his tears at that point. He didn't want to look weaker than he already was at that moment. But there was something he needed to get off his chest at that moment.

"DID YOU EVEN LOVE MY MOTHER!" He screamed, making Jubilee stop and take a look at his son one last time.

Jubilee could've faked his response. He could've given the same uncaring expression and, Jules would've expected it. Painful as it may be, Jules knew that this was the likely response of his father.

But Jubilee's face showed nothing but genuine sadness. A single teardrop running down his left cheek.

"I loved your mother but, she forgot who I was." Were the only things he said.

Jules demanded an explanation but, none was provided. Jubilee offered nothing more as he finally left.
