257. Liking

Supernaturalism Management Bureau (SMB), Coastal City

SMB was a department responsible for dealing with events in which supernatural powers were involved. Apart from exorcists, there were also staff members who were common people, who naturally followed an ordinary schedule, working nine to five.

Of course, they punched in and punched out on working days, and inevitably they had to work overtime on occasions.

Zhao Fei, the acting captain, had been having some tough days lately. That bastard Li Zong had gone abroad irresponsibly, leaving Zhao Fei to handle a huge workload. Were Zhao Fei a common person instead of an Artifact Spirit who did not need to sleep, he would have some time ago collapsed and been sent to a hospital.

When Han Zhuo came in, Zhao Fei looked up at the clock to check the time. It was 8:30 p.m. When he had finished reporting all the unusual cases presumably related to Demon’s Attendants or demons in Coastal City, it was something after ten o’clock.

Zhao Fei, who had not left his office for days, was eager to go out and get some fresh air. After finishing the records, he walked out of SMB with Han Zhuo.

“Tell me where you live and I’ll drive you there,” Han Zhuo said to him in the car.

Zhao Fei, exhausted, kneaded his aching temples and said, “Take me to Huangting Hotel.”

Han Zhuo was always a man of few words. After Zhao Fei gave him the address, neither of them said anything during the trip. The car drove at a steady speed. Half an hour later, they reached Huangting Hotel.

Zhao Fei yawned and got out of the car. His phone slipped from his pocket onto the seat. He was unaware of it, but Han Zhuo saw it. He lowered the window, called Zhao Fei by his name and handed the phone to him. With a smile on his face, Zhao Fei took it, turned around and went into the hotel.

Neither of them noticed a tall and straight man walking over from a spot not far away. The man halted when he believed he was close enough, and he impassively watched with his dark gray eyes as Han Zhuo’s car drove off.

Zhao Fei had been staying in the hotel these days. In the beginning he had still been able to find time to go out and have a massage on occasions, but later he had been too busy to get any leisure. It had been only a few moments since he had returned to the room. He was so tired that he couldn’t even be bothered to get something to eat. He threw himself onto the sofa, squinted his eyes and started to doze.

Zhao Fei was within an inch of falling asleep when there was a knock at the door. He fretfully rose from the sofa, dreamily moved to the door and pulled it open.

He was still massaging his forehead to relax when the door opened.

“I don’t remember ordering room service.”

“You’re being too careless. Shouldn’t you check who the visitor is before opening the door for them?”

When Zhao Fei heard the familiar voice, a trace of surprise flashed across the depths of his eyes. “I opened it because I didn’t sense any danger,” he said.

He paused, looked at the man tiredly, and yawned again. “By the way, how come you came here only a few moments after I returned? Did you put some kind of tracking device on me or are you so infatuated with me that you’ve been waiting for me in this hotel every day?”

Looking into Zhao Fei’s eyes, the man asked, “What if I tell you the latter is the truth?”

Zhao Fei gave a smile and said half in jest, “In that case I’ll have to consider the possibility that you are a pervert.”

The man made no comment about it and explained, “I told the receptionist to give me a call when you came back.”

Zhao Fei raised his eyebrows and said nothing after hearing the man’s unconvincing explanation.

The man entered the room as though he were a regular visitor. As he saw the crumpled surface of the sofa, he ran his fingers across Zhao Fei’s face and inquired, “I can tell you’re tired. Why didn’t you sleep in your bed?”

Zhao Fei was indeed so fatigued that he could barely keep his eyes open. He slumped onto the sofa with one leg over the other, his eyes narrowed, looking terribly drowsy. “Because I’m all sticky and I haven’t bathed yet.”

The man smiled and then heard Zhao Fei’s stomach rumble.

Zhou Yize asked him, “You didn’t have dinner?”

“No. Not in the mood for it. I just want to sleep … “ Zhao Fei trailed off. Zhou Yize, holding Zhao Fei’s head, let Zhao Fei lie propped against his lap. Zhou Yize’s thigh was muscular and Zhao Fei did not feel very comfortable with his head resting on it, but Zhou Yize smelled good, giving Zhao Fei a sense of security. Just like that, Zhao Fei drifted into a deep sleep.

Zhou Yize looked down at Zhao Fei, his gray eyes gleaming with an uncharacteristic tenderness that had never been there before. Listening to Zhao Fei’s shallow and light breathing, Zhou Yize felt a sudden, fleeting bemusement.

Why had he suddenly become so interested in this man? Why had he been feeling such an overwhelming urge to get close to Zhao Fei and hug him?

Zhou Yize couldn’t and didn’t want to find the answer.

Zhao Fei’s breathing was becoming progressively even. Zhou Yize gingerly produced his phone, called the reception desk and ordered some food. He specifically said that he wanted the food delivered in half an hour.

He wouldn’t use any of his powers that he had got from “that” place on Zhao Fei, because he didn’t want to ruin this relationship.

Half an hour later, a waiter arrived on time with a serving cart. Zhou Yize lowered his head, carefully pecked Zhao Fei’s earlobe and, breathing warm air on to Zhao Fei’s ear, said in muted voice, “Be a peach and get up to eat something.”

Zhao Fei was very vigilant and woke up as soon as Zhou Yize leaned over him, but he pretended he had been woken up by Zhou Yize’s voice. Kneading his eyes, he rose from Zhou Yize’s lap. “Emm … how long was I asleep for?”

“About half an hour. Do you mind answering the door?” Zhou Yize said.

His leg, having served as a pillow for Zhao Fei for a long time, was now a little numb.

Zhao Fei gave a chuckle, opened the door and told the waiter to bring the meal in.

After dinner, it was time for Zhou Yize to get his reward. Zhao Fei wanted to take a shower first, and Zhou Yize raised no objections. The two of them made out madly in the bathroom to the sound of running water mixed with groans of contentment, which was very pleasing to the ear.

It was already three or four in the morning when they finally finished. Zhao Fei was nakedly lying prone on Zhou Yize who was just as naked. Zhao Fei’s bare back was covered with hickeys left by Zhou Yize, which signified how strenuous the sex had been.

Zhao Fei’s face was against Zhou Yize’s shoulder, Zhou Yize gently caressing Zhao Fei’s ear.

Half sleep, Zhao Fei heard Zhou Yize ask him, “Who’s the guy that I saw drive you to the hotel?”

“Just a colleague,” answered Zhao Fei, a weary smile on his face, looking sidelong at Zhou Yize, his eyes gleaming amusedly. “Are you being jealous?”

“I am. If you want to go somewhere and it’s inconvenient for you to drive, you may give me a call and I’ll pick you up,” said Zhou Yize frankly. Then he added, “I’m available 24/7.”

Zhao Fei was somewhat sleepy, but when he heard this answer, he managed to prop himself up and looked down at Zhou Yize. “Are you serious?”

“Yeah,” said Zhou Yize, not avoiding Zhao Fei’s eyes.

The so-called love at first sight originates from the eyes but always rests in the heart eventually.

Many people tend to feel embarrassed when making eye contact with other, because eyes are windows to the heart.

At this time, Zhao Fei looked into Zhou Yize’s eyes and found nothing but candidness there, the emotions in those eyes pure and so rich.

Zhao Fei’s heart gave a gentle lurch and with that he lowered his head and planted another kiss on Zhou Yize’s lips.

Everyone knew that Zhao Fei, a TV superstar, hated love scenes the most. Whenever there was a scene involving kisses, he always took advantage of the camera angles to finish it. This was the only fact in the many stories told by paparazzi about Zhao Fei being a prig.

However, no one would believe that Zhao Fei, who didn’t like kissing, kissed a man countless times on one night.

“Do you like me?” chuckled Zhao Fei, kissing Zhou Yize.

“Yeah. I do.”

“My fan base has been growing quickly by the day. Some of them like me because of my appearance, some others my fame. They all like me for a reason.”

“Can’t I like you just because you are who you are?”

Zhao Fei suddenly laughed. The sky outside was covered by dark clouds, but there were a couple of stars in the inky sky, emitting a faint glow which was no less charming than the moonlight.

“Of course you can,” answered Zhao Fei. His voice was almost a murmur.

He was an actor, who had read too many lines, played too many roles and told too much stories, which was why he was having difficulty telling which part of this was true.

He only knew that his heart was not deceiving him at this moment.

……

The walls of the bungalow couldn’t do a very good job blocking out noises. He Zheng, who had returned to the room, had just pulled Li Zong into his embrace when Qiu Luo’s voice came from next door. “On that day, before the special training session, I went to an orphanage to play with the kids there, and I didn’t find time to change clothes before going to the training session.”

He Zheng paused in the act of reaching into Li Zong’s clothes and lightly held his finger to his lips, motioning for Li Zong to keep quiet.

He tiptoed to the wall and pressed his ear against it, which was a standard eavesdropping position.

The amusement on He Zheng’s face deepened as he listened. A few moments later, when he heard Qiu Luo say, “I’d like to ask you out. What do you say?” He Zheng could barely forbear from exclaiming.

With thinly disguised excitement on his face, he leaned closer to Li Zong’s ear and said in an undertone, “Holy shit. The two of them have gone this far but I never noticed anything about it.”

Li Zong inwardly pulled a wry face as he saw He Zheng’s excited face. Gently running his fingers across He Zheng’s neck, he breathed, “Why do you like eavesdropping so much?”

“A great person once said that nothing gladdens the heart better than eavesdropping or looking on does.”

Li Zong, who had lived for a very long time, had read all kinds of books, but he couldn’t remember any great people saying such down-to-earth words.

Then he heard He Zheng, pointing proudly at himself, say, “That great person is me, He Zheng.”

Li Zong dissolved into chuckle, drew He Zheng over and sat him into a chair. Then he stooped down and planted a kiss on He Zheng’s lips. “I’m afraid you’ll have difficulty facing Xiao Chen in a normal manner if you keep eavesdropping on them. Let’s go out for a walk.”

When it was a choice between eavesdropping and having a walk with Li Zong, He Zheng naturally chose the latter.

No matter how enjoyable it was to eavesdrop on others, it paled in comparison with holding his lover’s hand.

They had just walked out when they saw Chen Qianlin exiting his room, his face as red as a rotten tomato, wiping his mouth on his sleeve. They found themselves face to face with each other.

He Zheng was astonished for only a brief moment and then cottoned on to what had just happened. His insides were convulsing for the effort of keeping from laughing, but he maintained a straight face. “Yo, Ego Freak, where are you going?”

“Mind your own fucking business!” Chen Qianlin took it out on outsiders and then ran away so quick as though he had thrusters attached to the soles of his feet. He Zheng burst into laughter, feeling insanely happy.

While he was laughing, the door of Chen Qianlin’s room opened, revealing Qiu Luo standing in the doorway. The next second, Lao Ka and the other three also came out. None of them had bargained on the whole team meeting in the corridor. They were scrutinizing the ceiling, or examining their shoes, at a loss what to say.

He Zheng and Li Zong were ready to go out. He went the whole hog in being “nice” to his teammates and reminded Qiu Luo, “Ahem, you know, Xiao Chen is a downright asshole, a thin-skinned one too.”

Then he added, “None of the walls of this shithole could block any noises!”

Qiu Luo, “…”

No wonder these guys had come out at the same time.
