201. A Fight at the Millenary Islands Lake (I)

Translator: Dragon Rider

Half an hour before.

After hanging up the phone, Zhou Yize took a cab to the Millenary Islands Lake. He had some time ago come to know where the Human Devil would be going, so he got to the destination before Li Zong and the others did.

The price for a cab ride to the Millenary Islands Lake was over six hundred yuan. Zhou Yize transferred a grand to the driver’s account without the slightest frown, telling him that he didn’t have to wait for him and could just return to the city.

The driver, believing that he was some rich man’s son coming to this place for fun, delightedly left without giving it any more thought.

Zhou Yize followed the scent and arrived at the deserted tin hut. In front of it was a parked bus. Cries for help were issuing from inside, each louder than the last. A man inside the bus spotted Zhou Yize coming, pressed his face hard against the windowpane and yelled “HELP!” at the top of his lungs, his popping eyes bloodshot.

He ignored all the shouting, standing bolt upright where he was, appearing no different from how he looked when waiting for Zhao Fei to finish shooting the scenes on a set.

After about a couple of minutes, all the noises in the bus disappeared and a hush descended. The man throwing all his weight behind the windowpane was still facing Zhou Yize, resentment and venom glinting in his eyes, his fingers still clinging desperately to the pane of glass, his knuckles revealed, flesh sticking to bones, which was a blood-curdling sight.

The bus door opened and out of it came a woman. Her lips had become full and ruddy again. Her features were rather plain, but oddly enough, the contentment on her face lent her an air of bewitchment.

The woman looked sidelong at Zhou Yize, her eyes squinted, as though appraising him. “It surprises me that the Zhou family has actually knocked someone into shape. Thirty years ago, even Zhou Congzhi didn’t dare talk to me like that.”

Her voice sounded sepulchral, as if she might go berserk at any second.

But Zhou Yize was unconcerned about her words. He slightly raised his eyes which swept across the bus and observed coldly, “You have such terrible table manners. It seems that you really want to return to where you used to be.”

These words infuriated the woman thoroughly. She chuckled in a sinister tone, “Oh? And who’s the one responsible for all this in the final analysis?”

The woman gazed unblinkingly at Zhou Yize like a venomous snake at its prey.

It was this man who claimed to be an Demon’s Attendant of the Zhou family that had freed her from the seal with a magic tool given by the Demon King, but when she had regained a small part of her previous powers, it was also this man who had destroyed her den, causing all her efforts to go up in smoke.

“Those flies wouldn’t have tracked me down in the first place had you not killed all my ‘children’.” The woman was tired of playing games with Zhou Yize. She planned to finish this once and for all. Those nuisances of the Supernaturalism Management Bureau (SMB) were such a pain in the neck that she wanted to dispose of them in one fell swoop, ridding herself of the trouble for good. “Cut the nonsense and say what you want.”

“Since you need to restore your strength,” began Zhou Yize in a bland voice, without the slightest change of his countenance, “I don’t care how many people you’re going to kill, but you’ve gone too far with this in Hang City. I don’t want you to continue. You must move to another place.”

As though hearing something funny, the woman instantly snorted with laughter, “Haha… I must be mishearing.”

She laughed herself into convulsions and it was quite a while before she stopped, repeatedly wiping tears off the corners of her eyes. “Don’t tell me you are doing this only because you don’t want me to make trouble for those nuisances in this city.”

Zhou Yize made no response.

“This place has a large floating population, and I like the environment here, too. People here have insatiable desires, which makes them my perfect food.” The woman’s face instantaneously darkened. With a light wave of her hand, she flatly rejected Zhou Yize’s demand. “You think I’m going to leave just because you ask me to? You’re so naive.”

“You think people of SMB will turn a blind eye to this? They’ve already traced it to you.” Zhou Yize tossed her a casual glance which seemed both very nonchalant and highly meaningful.

“So what?” The woman slightly curled her lip. “I can’t wait for them to come.”

Of course she was longing for them to come. The Human Devil had deliberately leaked her whereabouts to staff members of SMB.

“Didn’t you say that you wanted me to let Zhao Fei live? I will grant your wish.” She flicked a look at Zhou Yize and continued, “One of those guys looks pretty tough. I want you to stall him while I finish the others.”

“I’m not negotiating with you,” replied Zhou Yize in a flinty tone of voice.

“You must have a death wish! Don’t forget you’re just one of the Demon King’s dogs! How dare you bark around and cross me!”

“You’re not my master, so of course I don’t have to answer to you.”

The woman, who had been smoldering all along, went ballistic at this remark. She raised her hand and a jet of black gas shot from it. “Die!” she yelled.

Having been trapped in a seal for so many years, the Human Devil had long since lost more than ninety percent of her powers. Zhou Yize nimbly backed away several paces and dodged the Human Devil’s strike, which antagonized the Human Devil even further. Using his hands as his weapons, Zhou Yize fought back against her head-on without another backward step. Within a couple of minutes, the two of them had exchanged dozens of blows. The Human Devil, who was best at mind control, finally succeeded in capturing Zhou Yize’s gaze, forcing him into making eye contact with her.

However, unexpectedly, Zhou Yize’s dark gray eyes retained their clarity, as though totally immune to her mind-control skill!
