158. Trouble Knocking at the Door (2)

He Changchun, almost reduced to taking leave of his senses by overwhelming rage, failed to notice the change of He Zheng’s mood.

“And now you caused Li Zong to be dismissed from his position as vice-superintendent, making a laughing stock of our family!

Let me tell you something — from now on, I, He Changchun, is no longer your father. I know what you’ve been up to. You won’t get a single coin of our family assets. And you won’t get the Welkin Upender either!”

“Ha ha. The Welkin Upender,” laughed He Zheng with his head down. After laughing for a while, he raised his head to look at He Changchun. “You think I give a damn about that shit?” His voice was very calm, which greatly surprised the other two in the room.

Fixed on He Changchun, He Zheng’s eyes were heavy with sarcasm. “You’re the only one regarding that thing as precious. If it held any appeal for me, I would’ve long since taken possession of it, and there wouldn’t have been anything you could do about it.”

He Changchun had never expected that He Zheng would still act like this after he made those remarks.

“You unfilial creature!” Insides burning with fury, He Changchun raised his hand with the intention to slap He Zheng across the face.

He Yu, having had her way, was very happy, her eyes curved with complacency, quietly waiting to hear the slap.

But the expected sound didn’t come.

He Zheng unhesitatingly grasped He Changchun’s wrist before the palm could hit its target.

“Save it, old fart,” said He Zheng softly as his calm eyes swept across He Yu’s smug face. “The reason why I haven’t done anything yet is because I’ve been occupied with cultivation and the selection process of STTP. I don’t have time for this kind of farce.”

After a brief pause, he added, “And I still have an old score to settle with Qiao Peiyu.”

“Don’t be ridiculous. What do you think my mother owes you that makes you feel entitled to be so cocky?!” He Yu snapped.

“What do I think she owes me?” He Zheng gave a sneer. “With a piece of yin jade (In Chinese philosophy and medicine, yin and yang are the two opposing principles in nature, the former feminine and negative, the latter masculine and positive), she harnessed the residual Qi of my mother as a source of nourishment for herself, and also sealed my cultivation endowments keeping me from cultivating.”

He Zheng matter-of-factly looked at He Yu. “You should know very well what kind of price she needs to pay for that, however brainless you are.”

He Zheng casually released his grip on He Changchun’s wrist, leaned against the wall with his arms folded across his chest, and closed his eyes to conceal the ferocity in them. ” I’m not going to let her get away with that. Tell her to wait till I get hold of her.”

“This is outrageous!”

“Outrageous? Of course I’m outrageous. My mother gave me my life, but I grew up in a fatherless family. How could I not be outrageous?” He Zheng’s lips evilly curved in a sneer. “Mark my words, He Changchun, you, Qiao Peiyu and the He family have a debt to repay.” Then he stepped closer to He Changchun and added, “I haven’t taken any action so far because I’ve been busy, not because I still have some so-called filial affection left.”

He Zheng leaned back against the wall. “From now on, the He family will be my biggest enemy. You’d better pray that I wouldn’t find the time to deal with you, because if I do, I’ll make sure all of you suffer.”

He Zheng had indeed cast aside all considerations of filial piety on this occasion, as if determined to infuriate his father to death.

He Changchun was almost reduced to developing cerebral thrombosis with rage.

“You–! I dare you!”

“And I will. I’m a monster, remember?” He Zheng burst into laugh, the corners of his mouth curling sneeringly. “And a monster has no humanity.”

The glance He Zheng gave He Changchun out of the corner of his eye sent a chill down his spine.

He Zheng shifted his gaze to He Yu and grinned evilly, “She wants to land a job in SMB? Ha-ha, I doubt she could pass the written examination.”

“What do you want to do?” He Yu momentarily went vigilant.

“Think about what I can do. Didn’t you two say that Li Zong lost his position as vice-superintendent because of me? If that’s the case, then he surely wouldn’t refuse if I ask him for a small favor, would he?”

“Ho–How dare you use Brother Li? I’ll have him see for what you really are!”

Eyes on He Yu, He Zheng chuckled. This stupid woman couldn’t even tell that he was lying.

“I’m willing to be used by him.” The elevator door opened and Li Zong walked through it. There was no telling whether he had just arrived or had been in there for a while.

Both He Yu and He Changchun were stunned. Li Zong was walking at a very gentle pace but also very gracefully.

He Changchun and He Yu both involuntarily made way for Li Zong, who glanced down at their shoes and briefly furrowed his brows.

“Supt. Li.” Sure enough He Changchun, who always set great store by his respectability, didn’t want to lose face in the presence of Li Zong and greeted him with a forced smile.

“I don’t hold that position any more.” Li Zong’s tone was quite terse.

In a fit of pique, He Yu blurted through gritted teeth, “Li Zong, you’re really willing to be used by him? You don’t regret having lost your position as vice-superintendent because of him?!”

Assuming an air of deep puzzlement, Li Zong looked at He Yu. “Who said He Zheng was the reason for that? And by whom am I supposed to be willing to be used if not by him? You?”

Li Zong took his eyes off her and said blandly, “I’m sorry, but you’re not that charming.”

A snicker which He Zheng failed to stifle was heard.

He Yu’s face was alternating between a green and a white. This was easily the greatest humiliation she’d ever suffered! The most intolerable one!

Li Zong didn’t have the time to say anything else to her. He looked at He Changchun and said in a businesslike manner, “Patriarch He, did you just say that you want to disown He Zheng?”

“Uh…” He Changchun had said that in a fit of temper. If he really did that, it would be something of a disgrace.

He Changchun gave a smile and was just about to gloss it over when Li Zong inclined his head and continued, “He Zheng and you haven’t really been on very good terms. Now that the time has come for your father-son relationship to come to an end, it’s best if we get some things straight right now.”

Li Zong flicked a glance at He Zheng, the expression in his eyes softening. “He Zheng is young and unsophisticated, so I’ll handle this for him. We have no interest in the He family’s property, for the Li family has enough money, but everything left by Mrs. Zhu must be returned to He Zheng. I’m a rather busy man, so I’ll make an announcement first to let people know about this matter. From now on, He Zheng is no longer a member of the He family.”

“Hey.” He Zheng looked at Li Zong with a half-smile. “Which family will I belong to?”

Li Zong confusedly looked down at the flat-chested little guy and briefly lifted his left eyebrow. “To which family do you want to belong if not to mine?”
