151. Zhou Family (1)

The expectation and longing in Zhou Yihao’s voice was quite manifest to the man. After all, he was the Demon King who’d been born out of humankind’s negative emotions. Although he was now merely a puff of demonic Qi, the part of his powers that had originated from his instincts was still intact.

The man languidly swiveled his head around, thoroughly exposing to the sunlight the half of his face that had been hidden in the dark all along. It was not half a face but a mass of intertwining wisps of black gas — no bones, no skin, no muscles, only black gas.

Zhou Yihao was not afraid. On the contrary, he was unnaturally excited.

The man casually raised his hand from which black gas issued before going into the middle of Zhou Yihao’s forehead. The next second, the enormous energy brought Zhou Yihao curling up on the ground, and he was shaking violently, growling like a wild beast.

While he was doing this, the human half of the man’s face gradually became transparent and eventually turned into black gas, looking exactly like the other half.

“Hm… As I expected, a wisp of demonic Qi cannot hold a candle to my primary form.”

Zhou Yihao was writhing uncontrollably, his sweaty hair sticking to his face, which made him seem somewhat disgusting, like a dog that had just been dragged out of a river.

“Ma–Master… I will find you decent food.”

The man bent his fingers and lazily fingered his brow. However, the combination of this movement and his horrifying face was such a spooky sight. “Have you found out the whereabouts of the Demonic Seed?”

Zhou Yihao had gradually stopped trembling and was lying feebly on the ground. His eyes which used to consist of whites and brown pupils had been occupied by black gas, but on his face was an unearthly smile. He still answered in the most reverent tone, “I sensed it in He family. There’s definitely some kind of connection between them and the Demonic Seed.”

He family.

The man gave a sneer. It was He family yet again. Fate seemed to be deliberately bringing him and He family together.

“There’s no hurry about getting the Demonic Seed. The tricky part is that my energy is not enough. Even if I find the Demonic Seed, I won’t be able to integrate it with me.”

The man gave a chuckle and then came up with an idea. “Go and seek out the Human Devil. That guy has been sealed for such a long time. I’m sure he’s anxious to come outside for some fresh air.”

“The Human Devil… May I ask where he might be, Master?”

“Go and ask your father. He’ll know.”

Zhou Yihao inclined his head heavily.

“Time. I need more time. And I need to transfer to somewhere absolutely safe before they send their minions here.”

“Rest assured, Master. My elder brother and my father have already set out to look for a suitable location.”

“You may leave. Have my food delivered here.”

Zhou Yihao nodded repeatedly and walked out.

He was bursting to try his newly gained power, but he noticed that on the screen of his cellphone, which he had put on mute, were a lot of unanswered calls, most of which were from He Yu.

A flicker of disgust flitted across Zhou Yihao’s eyes, but as he called the number back, he had put on a mild face. Luo Yan’s death must not come to He Yu’s knowledge so soon, otherwise his cover would be blown.

In Zhou family.

Zhou family’s mansion was in a housing district developed by Zhou family themselves. This newly finished housing district was far away from downtown and not very convenient for schools, hospitals and supermarkets, but it wasn’t really close to the real suburb. Though there was a huge reservoir near this housing district and the surroundings were nice, it was not a popular choice among homebuyers, what with the sparse population and the out-of-the-way location. It was an unprofitable investment project of Zhou family.

However, no outsiders knew that this housing district was Zhou family’s actual abode.

Zhou Yihao entered the house and directly ran upstairs in haste without greeting his handsome but cold elder brother. He had left the room where that man was, but excitement was still bubbling inside him. His each and every cell seemed to be yelling, requesting him to unleash the power that he had just been given.

God knew how much self-restraint Zhou Yihao had exercised to keep from rushing to the basement and killing all those people in there whom he’d taken prisoner through all kinds of means.

Inside Zhou Yihao’s human form hid a demonic soul.

He walked to the study and knocked at the door.

“Come in.”

Zhou Congzhi the patriarch of Zhou family, though in his fifties, appeared to be in very good shape. People could tell from his face whom Zhou Yize and Zhou Yihao had inherited their attractive looks from.

“What did Master say to you?”

Zhou Yihao informed Zhou Congzhi of all the Demon King’s instructions without keeping anything back and then specially added, “Father, Master also gave me part of his powers,” as if he was asking for credit.

Unsurprisingly, Zhou Congzhi narrowed his eyes, his usually grim face now tinged with a hint of appreciation.

“You did a very good job.”

“Father, about the Human Devil… Where should I go to find him?”

Zhou Congzhi put down his pen. “This matter is beyond your capabilities. Call your brother in.”

“Father! I can handle this as well!” bawled Zhou Yihao, whose father was doing the same thing he’d done many times before.

Zhou Yihao could barely refrain from shouting at the top of his lungs. It always ended up like this. No matter how hard he tried, his father always seemed to think that his elder brother was better than him. As a Demon’s Attendant, from the moment he’d been told his identity, Zhou Yihao had been regarding himself as a cut above others. It was an inexpressible snobbery for which Zhou family’s educational methods and economic conditions were responsible.

Zhou Yihao had subdued his sense of superiority, growing and learning with his ordinary peers, which had bored him out of his mind. Finally, when he’d been seven years old, his father had told him that the Demon King had successfully broken through the seal. Though he’d been merely a wisp of demonic Qi that could scarcely stay in human form, it’d still given Zhou Yihao hope.

He’d been determined to become the most outstanding Demon’s Attendant since childhood — the very best one, better than all others.
