112. Xu Family Playing Hardball (2)

Translator: Dragon Rider

Qin Huai was secretly startled, feeling that this woman was messing with the last person she wanted to mess with. Everybody knew this crazy dude of He family would even hurl abuse at his own father when he was mad.

He Zheng curled his lip. “Oh, so I’m standing before a big shot? Let me tell you something: there’s no way I’m letting you lay hands on Liu Lanxue’s body.”

Fury was coursing through Mrs. Xu, her eyes snapping fire. “Yo–You!”

He Zheng leaned against the door, arms crossed across his chest, a sneer on his face. “Your son died, and you’ve seen in the surveillance video what he did before death, I suppose? You people know very well how much suffering you inflicted on this female teacher, yet now you’re acting like a victim. Vice will have an evil recompense.”

Mrs. Xu was startled, but she still didn’t realize her mistake. “You… I’ll sue you. I’ll sue you to death! Who do you think you are? How dare you talk to me like that!”

Mrs. Xu winked at her bodyguards standing behind her and with that they moved intending to restrain He Zheng. Qin Huai went furious and was just about to reprimand them when a voice came.

“Mrs. Xu.”

It was a chilly male voice tinged with apathy. Mrs. Xu twisted her head around and saw someone who was not supposed to be in this place.

It was a man, of great stature, narrow-waisted, long-legged, eyes so deep that it seemed as though they were double-pupiled. Had there not been a somewhat icy air about him, the sight of him would probably have been a perfect delight to the eye.

Mrs. Xu was anxious and doubtful, suspecting that she was imagining things.

Qin Huai gave a sneer. “Mrs. Xu, just now you gave He Zheng a cruel tongue-lashing, not only making He family lose face but also inflicting a great humiliation on Li family. Now I cannot offer you any help even if I want to.”

Almost all He family’s businesses were in the charge of He Qin. His business style was rather conventional, and he wasn’t really a famous figure, but Mrs. Xu should have heard of Li family before, no matter how poorly informed she was. Besides, she’d been in the commercial circle for years and had an intimate knowledge of it.

In fact, Li family was not really renowned, but Mrs. Xu knew about Li family, not because Li Zong was vice superintendent of the Supernaturalism Management Bureau (SMB) and group leader of the first action group, but because Li Tiangang used to serve in the army and during the past few years had been active in the Coastal City. On top of this, Li family was very wealthy. Though no member of Li family was personally running any businesses, it was rumored that Li family’s offshoots – there were a couple of them – had been taking care of the businesses for them. Currently, several family-owned businesses in the Coastal City were in the name of members of Li family.

Mrs. Xu didn’t know whether it was true or not, but since this kind of rumors existed, she believed that they were not necessarily groundless, that to be on the safe side, she’d better be cautious.

“Please pardon me for my ignorance, Mrs. Xu. I don’t know which remark of mine made you feel offended and utter this kind of words.”

Mrs. Xu’s countenance changed. She had no intention of making an enemy of Li family, but from the vantage point of the present, she didn’t really have a choice.

Mrs. Xu clenched her teeth. “Just now I was indeed being a little emotional, but Childe He blocked my path refusing to let me get in to look for my son’s murderer, which I believe was unjustifiable conduct.”

“Look for?” He Zheng smiled, his eyes sweeping across those bodyguards behind her, all of whom looked full of power and energy. “I think you mean ‘snatch the body’, given that you brought so many men here.”

The auxiliary policeman, who had never expected that this woman would bring so many helpers, quickly made an inside call and reported this situation. At this time, Sergeant Luo and some of his colleagues returned.

Distantly, Sergeant Luo’s voice came from the corridor. “Mrs. Xu, we have now enough evidence to charge you with obstruction of justice. If you don’t take you men and leave here right now, we’ll officially file charges against you later.”

Sergeant Luo seemed to be surprised by Li Zong’s presence as well and did a noticeable double take. “Supt. Li? What brings you here?”

Li Zong nodded at him and then briefly tilted his chin in the direction of He Zheng and replied, “They’re here on a case. I was passing and dropped in here to check on them.”

Sergeant Luo felt that he finally could relax safe now. ‘There’s nothing Supt. Li cannot handle. It seems that this case will be cracked by the end of the day,’ he thought.

“Ha ha. This is great.” Sergeant Luo couldn’t help but chuckle. This was the first time that he had shown such delight on his face, but after merely a few moments, he started wondering, ‘Since when have Li Zong got so much leisure? Doesn’t everybody say that this young vice superintendent is fully occupied all year round?’

But of course he knew it was not his place to ask about this.

Mrs. Xu gritted her teeth. She would never do anything stupid in the presence of so many policemen.

Immediately, Mrs. Xu intended to leave the station with her men. Sergeant Luo gave a wink at the couple of policemen behind him, who then blocked Mrs. Xu’s path.

“What are you doing?!”

“There’s more to your son’s death, which requires further investigation. We need you to be cooperative and come with us.” Sergeant Luo’s countenance seemed to be showing that he was apologetic, but the look in his eyes suggested otherwise.

Mrs. Xu was very displeased. Sergeant Luo said, “We’ve called your husband here. The principal of the First High School of Coastal City and Liu Lanxue’s parents are in this station as well. We can do an overall review of this whole thing together and hopefully figure something out.”

Of course Sergeant Luo was merely using this as a pretext, but on hearing her husband, Mrs. Xu clearly went somewhat irresolute. Eventually, she compromised.

Sergeant Luo motioned to the policemen behind him and they took Mrs. Xu away.

Then he walked up to Li Zong and said, “Supt. Li, now that you’re already here, I’d appreciate it if you’d help us identify the problem in passing.”
