Emperor Liu Hong

62 Changing Yuan, Amnesty

() In the midst of being so busy, it seemed that time passed quickly. Before Liu Hong felt what was going on, it was the time of the Chinese New Year.

Liu Hong is regarded as the new king ascending the throne, and the yuan will be changed after the Chinese New Year. This is a tradition, and the year that begins with each year is called the first year. After the new emperor ascended the throne, the year name of the chronology is generally changed, which is called "changing yuan".

The same emperor can also be changed to Yuan during his reign. For example, Emperor Han Ling had four reign names in history, Jianning, Xiping, Guanghe, and Zhongping. It was only after the Ming Dynasty that it was stipulated that one emperor and one yuan should be used to address emperors by year titles. For example, Ming Chengzu's year name was Yongle, and Ming Chengzu was called Yongle Emperor.

The year name is a product of an original invention in ancient China. In addition to being used to record the year, it also expresses blessings, praises, and dynasty changes.

To be precise, the Chinese era name began during the republic period of the Zhou Dynasty, from about 841 BC to 828 BC.The imperial clan Zhao Mugong and Zhou Dinggong were in power together, which is called republican governance by historians. However, the heavenly kings with the Ji surname in the Zhou Dynasty did not continue to use it.Therefore, the founding system for the actual use of year names should have originated from Liu Che, the emperor of the Han Dynasty in China. Since then, the feudal dynasty in China that lasted for 2000 years has been used until Yuan Shikai, the last emperor of the Chinese Empire, namely Emperor Hongxian.

The era name originated when the new emperor ascended the throne in ancient China. In order to distinguish the previous emperor, the new emperor gave a new era name according to his own thoughts. The reign name, as the exclusive product of the Chinese emperor in the 5000-year Chinese Empire era, has made great achievements as a spiritual and cultural heritage in Chinese history in later generations, so Liu Hong is not disgusted with the reign name.

However, during the Han Dynasty, the yuan and the year were changed at every turn, so that Liu Hong couldn't figure out which year was which. This made Liu Hong quite distressed.

The ancient Chinese calendar used the "Genzhi Jiyuan Method", that is, the ten heavenly stems and the twelve earthly branches were combined, and every 60 years was a cycle. Liu Hong didn't want to change this.

But in order to change the confusion of the year name, Liu Hong decided, although he still changed the Yuan to Jianning. However, the year of the founding of the Han Dynasty was regarded as the first year, and the Han calendar was set. This year is the [-]th year of the Han calendar, and it will be postponed in the future, and it will not be changed again and again.Other changes to the year name and so on are up to the emperor's preference.

Although Liu Hong has not been on the throne for a long time, many things have changed since he took the throne.Although the issue of setting the Han calendar has changed the tradition, it is much more convenient to use after all, and it has nothing to do with the interests of each family. No one will offend Liu Hong for this, so it was passed smoothly.

After the new monarch ascended the throne and changed the Yuan Dynasty, according to the tradition, he would amnesty the world, but Liu Hong didn't quite agree with this.

If you commit a crime, you will be punished. If you just give an amnesty, you will let all the prisoners go. Not to mention that it is very unfair to the victims, and even the effect of punishment and deterrence on criminals is greatly reduced.

You have an amnesty today, and an amnesty tomorrow, especially in the Han Dynasty. Look at the history books. The new king needs amnesty when he ascends the throne, and he also needs amnesty when he has a child. Even if there is a solar eclipse, he still needs amnesty. The prisoner lost all fear.Anyway, after going in, it won't take long to come out, who would be afraid. Therefore, Liu Hong felt that the poor law and order at the end of the Han Dynasty was largely due to the frequent amnesties, which made criminals lose their fear.

But the ascension of the new monarch is a joyous event after all, and Liu Hong can't force it to cancel it.Therefore, Liu Hong made a rule to amnesty the world. In the future, except for the new king's ascension to the throne, that is, only when there is such a happy event as expanding the land for thousands of miles, can the world be amnesty again. If there were no such festive events, there would be no need for amnesty for the world.

According to this rule, future emperors will only be able to amnesty almost once in their lifetime. After all, such feats as expanding the land for thousands of miles are not something that any emperor can come across. However, if it is really possible to open up the border and expand the territory, it is not an exaggeration to have an amnesty for such a national celebration, and maybe it will make criminals cherish the free life even more.

But even if it is an amnesty for the world, Liu Hong also stipulates that three kinds of people will not be pardoned.

Corrupt officials will not be forgiven, regardless of past lives, Liu Hong hates those corrupt officials.Especially in later generations, seeing so many corrupt officials embezzling so much money, they were sentenced to death with a reprieve in the end, and within a few years, they would be able to make meritorious deeds and get their sentences reduced, allowing them to live their lives comfortably.Liu Hong was so angry that he didn't hit one place. So no matter what, in his territory, corrupt officials don't want to receive any preferential treatment. As long as you dare to be corrupt, even if you don't die, you must be prepared to sit in prison.

Liu Hong will not forgive those who are disobedient and unfilial. These unfilial people, in Liu Hong's view, cannot be regarded as human beings. It is enough to not destroy them humanely, so why let them go out to waste food.

Strictly speaking, there were not many unfilial people in the Han Dynasty. After all, they uphold the principle of governing the country with filial piety, and it is an anecdote to find someone who is not filial for hundreds of miles. It's not like the later generations, if there is no one who is not filial, all neighbors will be on the news network.

This thing relies on the enlightenment of the imperial court. In Liu Hong's view, ruling the world with filial piety is one of the few advantages of the evil old society. This thing must be well preserved and strictly inherited.

The third kind of unforgiveness is the unforgiveness of rebellion. In Liu Hong's view, he is going to rebel against me and wants my life. I am pardoning him. Isn't this sick?

Of course, if a general rebel is caught, the Nine Clans will be strangled immediately, and those who wait for nothing will not be able to keep up with such things as amnesty. And even if he is lucky enough to catch up with the amnesty, Liu Hong doesn't need to worry about such a thing. This crime is not within the scope of amnesty in the first place.

However, Liu Hong is not a hard-hearted person. Since others have pardoned them and are happy, it is also appropriate to let them have some joy.Especially those who were implicated, in Liu Hong's view, they were really wronged.

So Liu Hong ordered that even those three kinds of injustices can be reduced by one level.Exemption from death for capital crimes and commutation of sentences for living crimes give them a chance to reform themselves.

Amnesty is not an easy thing to encounter in the future. Now that they have met, it means that God wants to keep people, and it cannot be justified not to give them a chance.

After all, since time travel, Liu Hong has been in awe of those gods, immortals, and those unnatural forces. He felt that it was better to leave a way out for himself as a human being.

However, the crimes of these guys are too bad, and Liu Hong is also very uncomfortable with the reduction of sentence for no reason. Therefore, Liu Hong felt that it was necessary for them to make atonement. It is a good idea to let them go to reform through labor. They usually stay comfortably in prison and enjoy themselves. How can this serve as a punishment?Letting them work and work for the people can not only serve as a punishment, but also make up for their crimes by using their labor to contribute to the people.
