Chapter 3 Zhang Yingchen's colleagues on New Taoism

The following articles are all written by Daoquanzi (a character in the book: Zhang Yingchen) on the Longkong Forum.Founder of Lingao New Taoist Philosophy:

Summary of Zhang Yingchen's diary:

The conference was about to be held, and I visited the temples in the Lingao area for several days.Apparently, the religious activities in Lingao area have not been on the right track, and the status of Taoist and Buddhist clerical personnel is extremely low in the local area, and these clerical personnel themselves cannot be considered as qualified religious personnel.Apart from chanting the precious scrolls, they basically lack the quality of regular religious personnel. They are not proficient in either putting flames or worshiping confession, and a large part of them are still illiterate.

The low quality of Taoist and Buddhist religious personnel gave Lingao folk religion a great space for activities, and similarly, it also gave the Jesuits a great development prospect.

After visiting the Lingao Religious Society and that Dean Wu, I firmly believe that if the Lingao Church continues to develop without checks and balances, it will eventually gain the status of the state religion in the time traveler regime.

However, most of us timetravelers don't seem to realize the significance of a state religion.Yes, our time-traveling group is currently a group of elites influenced by atheism, and the Lingao Church, which is restricted by the religious office, cannot compete with the time-traveling group at any level. But in the 17th century, when compulsory education and materialism were not yet popularized, the church will undoubtedly have a wider influence than our education.

Our time-traveling group can not be bewitched by its nonsense, but what about our descendants and our subjects?Obviously we're not going to influence most of them with Marxist-Leninist materialism or any theory of industrialized society. In fact, judging from the performance of the soy sauce party members who accounted for the vast majority in the maid revolution, they would not pay attention to this issue.

It is conceivable that in a few decades, the Lingao Church will become an important force affecting society, and after the traversers get old, its influence will continue to expand, and it will even turn against the traverser regime itself.

I think we need a check and balance of the Lingao Church to balance the monopoly of this monster we created with our own hands. Perhaps, this is the mission given to me by God.

Since modern times, the Quanzhen and Zhengyi sects we have seen are the standard models of Shenxian Taoism. But if we go back to the oldest Taoism of Heavenly Master and Taiping Taoism, and pay attention to the "Taiping Jing" and "Xiang Er Zhu", we will find that primitive Taoism is not very interested in all kinds of alchemy for the pursuit of immortality.

For example, "Xiang Er" commented that the alchemists at that time Tu Na Dao guided the conception of keeping spirits as "false techniques", and called those Taoists who sacrificed to ghosts and gods "false ways", while "Xiang Er Zhu" advocated keeping precepts and taking shortcuts. However, Tianshi Dao soon merged with Bashu's Ghost Dao, adding a lot of spells and spells that it originally opposed.Such a religious evolution of "carrying the red flag against the red flag" has similar situations in various sects in the Middle Ages.

For example, under the influence of Roman pagan beliefs, Christianity began to absorb the gods of various European nations as saints; Christianity in South Asia and Central Asia retained the worship of shamanism; after Indian Buddhism was introduced to the Central Plains, it was born in combination with Taoism. The Buddha scolded the Zen of the ancestors.

Even Priest Bai and Dean Wu of our religious office had to accommodate the customs of Ming Dynasty when they spread Christianity.

Doctrines are alienated by heterogeneous civilizations, which is an inevitable problem in missionary work.Although our Lingao people have knowledge and historical experience far beyond this era, it is a pity that this problem is still unavoidable. However, Lingao's thoughts are destined to replace the old ideas, and Lingao's religion is destined to replace the old religions. Whether it is Roman Catholicism, Orthodox Church, Buddhism or traditional Taoism, they will all be replaced by Lingao's religions. This is a great battle. Ideological warfare cannot tolerate tenderness and humility.

Throughout history, general administrative measures cannot eliminate old religions. Only after a nation has completely converted to a new religion will it completely break with the old religion. In other words, only religion can destroy religion.

The task of our Taoist Council is not to completely eliminate the old sect, but to completely isolate all the temple masters, temple masters, Taoist officials, and monk officials of the old sect by entering into the believers, uniting the believers, and mobilizing the believers. Religious models and religious systems are completely broken, and new sects are established to obey our people...

Father Matteo Ricci has always insisted that this ancient land bears the remains of our Lord's salvation.Regrettably, when Father Zeng Dezhao participated in the excavation and translation of the sacred church inscription set up by the emperor of the Tang Empire for our Lord Jesus 1000 years ago (that is, the popular Chinese Nestorian monument of the Great Qin Dynasty), Father Matteo Ricci had no time to share the importance of our Lord Jesus. Jesus, by the hands of his separated brothers, left behind the relics of this empire.

However, I believe that the omnipotent God has already given enlightenment to ancient Chinese sages in his own way.Only the followers of Pythagoras in India (the Jesuits once believed that Indian Buddhism and Hinduism were descendants of Greek Pythagorean Esotericism) polluted the gospel of the Lord with their fallacies and heresy and poisonous views.

This caused the Confucian philosophers to gradually lose the lofty ideals of their predecessors, and the Pythagorean insights did almost irreparable damage to the inspired philosophers of the other school. It made these scholars who should have lived in the rose garden of bliss degenerate into alchemists and idolaters like Gnostics.

When the learned elders of Lingao mentioned the status quo of the old empire, they usually believed that the Tatars in the north were the biggest enemy of civilization and faith. They spoke of Attila the Hun, of the Tartar dynasty served by the Venetian Marco Polo, and lamented the destruction of the great ancient imperial civilization by nomads.

As a group of descendants of exiled nobles of the former dynasty, the "Yuan" dynasty is unforgivable, but in the eyes of me, a pagan priest. The most unforgivable crime of the Tatars is that they poisoned the two paths of salvation that originally belonged to the Chinese with the harmful thoughts of Pythagorean Indian believers, making Confucianism and Taoism that were called and inspired by wisdom The classics eventually became the stuff of today's rigid codes of the "Mandarin" group of philosopher officials and Taoist priests who only know heresies such as alchemy and spells that are harmful to the soul.

But the salvation of our Lord Christ made their best leader, like the prophet in Exodus, lead the best to find a new Jerusalem. Here, they preserved the salvation of our Lord, and their most glorious morality, tradition, knowledge and dignity.

They also retained their own religion, which, however, had not been poisoned by the pernicious teachings of India. There are countless reasonable factors in it to show that it once contained the way of salvation of the Lord Jesus, and it is also the most suitable fertile ground for the seed of Jesus Christ to grow and bear fruit.

Thirty years after the publication of this monumental work, the famous "Rite Dispute" broke out between the Empire and the Italian Church. The ignorant and conservative feudal leader, the False Pope Clement XI, moved against the trend of history and brazenly declared that "Great "Empire" is a banned book and included in the list of banned books in Europe, and the historic movement of learning from the east and spreading to the west has also fallen into decline because of his series of reactionary measures. As a result, Europe gradually fell behind the tide of historical development.

Letter from Zhang Yingchen to He Ying before leaving

When He Ying received Zhang Yingchen's letter, the tall Mongolian doctor had already boarded the boat to the mining area.

Holding this thing that was not so much a private letter as a work plan, He Ying couldn't help admiring the courage and action of this magician.

He sat down, unfolded the letter paper, and slowly read the farewell message from Lingao's first priest and chairman of the Daoist Association.

"...The result of collisions between heterogeneous civilizations is that the advanced eliminate the backward, and the civilization eliminates the barbaric. Therefore, in this era, the Jesuits easily wiped out the Mayan priests in South America, going back 300 years, * Christianity and Tibetan Buddhism easily converted the two Mongols. However, collisions inevitably lead to integration, and it is inevitable for religions to be infiltrated by the old traditions of new believers.

"Comrade Wu Mangshi seems to want to carry out a social experiment in Lingao, just like the Jesuits in Macau who built the Notre Dame Church like the Temple of Songzi Guanyin. This kind of thing, Central Asia and Southeast Asia The patriarchs of the Catholic Church, the Jesuits, Dominicans, and Franciscans of South America all tried. But, without exception, they failed ignominiously.

"Central Asian herdsmen still trust shamans, Filipino Christians still worship sacred trees, and Mayan and Inca goddesses continue to occupy the center of South American churches in the form of Our Lady of Guadalupe. At work, resisting the erosion of the old culture will become a long-term and arduous task.

"Therefore, conversion, conversion, and changing customs can only be preliminary work, as Matteo Ricci said, 'This is just cutting off some branches in a wasteland full of thorns'.

"Only by reshaping the old society and the soil where the old culture lived can we truly achieve our goals.

"The ultimate goal of reforming beliefs is to transform civilization, that is, to transform medieval farming civilization into modern industrial civilization. I hope that I and my successors can always remember this, instead of stupidly falling into some kind of dogmatic fetishism. Self-enclosed and regressed.

"The religious opium of the medieval ignorance is beneficial to us in the short term, but in the long run, we must get rid of the Catholic style and turn the short-term investment of pulling sheep's tricks into long-term continuous investment.

"The church should take on the responsibility of teaching. In addition to the ideological education instilled in the form of religion, basic education is the top priority of our work. The boring 'divine translation dispute' between monks and priests and Confucian scholars in the late Ming Dynasty, The "controversy between hell and heaven" and "the similarities and differences between Taiyi Chaos Taiji and Li and God" are nothing more than a set of European medieval philosophies and a set of Asian medieval philosophies competing for legitimacy and discourse power.

"Our job is not to introduce a new set of opium to rule, but to act as a catalyst for the transformation of an old society into a new one. We are not to create a new set of old wine, and replace the old gods with new gods. It is the foundation of the existence of theocracy that is gradually eaten away by the hands of new gods. The secularization and simplification of religion is a manifestation of social progress in the 17th century. We should guide this new trend instead of adding a new set of rituals on the basis of overthrowing the old rituals. Red tape, not to mention turning natural fetishism into mechanical fetishism is such a boring and ignorant thing.

"In my lifetime, I'm afraid I have to reconcile with the beliefs of the old world. There may be various cults from the 17th century in the Lingao Seminary, and there may be radical and retro True King Adventists or Taoism in the Taoist Council version of the Golden Dawn Society. But education must be done well. Only a thoroughly secularized civilized world can cut off the ghosts of the Middle Ages from the root.

At this moment, don’t learn from Jiangzhou Sima, it’s too ugly to see the wet shirt, so let us imitate the sage in Wenchuan, shouting, “Pour me a bowl of practiced bar” and step on the road that belongs to me and everyone. The way of adventure.

Wish me good luck, old friend. "
