After Li Jing had breakfast, he carried a bolt of silk and two bolts of cloth to the town.

The town is called Chishan Town, but this town is not a township for later generations, but a military town.Chishan Junzhen is not far from Wangli Village, just beside Fahua Temple at the foot of Chishan.Since the end of the Tang Dynasty, the government military system had already been corrupted, and the imperial court often used recruiting troops. There is a shence army in the center, and there are soldiers and horses in each town in the local area. The larger towns are called military Jiedushi, and the smaller ones also have military cities, military towns, and guards.

Wendeng County, Dengzhou is a coastal area in Shandong, and there is Chishanpu by the sea in Wangli Village.Chishanpu is a very good harbor, facing Japan and Silla across the sea, and the waterway is only three days away.Datang Guangzhou Port and Dengzhou Port are two major sea routes. Guangzhou Port leads to Southeast Asia and the Western Regions, and Dengzhou Port leads to Liaodong, Bohai Sea, Silla, and Japan. These two sea routes are called the Maritime Silk Road.

The main port of Dengzhou Port is Penglai, but Chishanpu in Wendeng is the closest channel to Silla and Japan, and it has always been prosperous.Ziqing Pinglu Jiedu Envoy, who was in charge of the five prefectures of Deng, Qing, Lai, Zi, and Qi, established Chishan Town at the foot of Chishan behind Chishanpu, directly under the Pinglu Army.

There are 1100 troops stationed in Chishan Army Town, and even the families of the soldiers are with the army. Chishan Town has a large population and is very lively. The entire Chishan Army Town is nearly square in plane, each side is about 7 meters long, and its outline is irregular to adapt to the hilly and coastal terrain. The city wall is built of bricks, with a gate on each side and an urn on each side. There are [-] gate towers and turrets in total, and there is a water gate at the entrance and exit of the river on one side. The main street between the east and west gates in the city is a main road, and the Drum Tower is built across the street to the west. The streets inside the south and north gates are also main roads, but they are not straight.Secondary streets are basically parallel to main roads.

Due to the large number of these soldiers and their families in Chishan Town, over time, it became the center of the southwestern part of Wendeng County.Although the Tang Dynasty stipulated that only counties with more than [-] households can establish cities, the government regulations have become more and more loose in recent years.Chishanjun Town has a large population and it is close to Fahua Temple, the largest temple in Wendeng County, so it is very popular. The town general of Chishan Town also held the official position of the town's envoy, with great power, higher than the Wendeng county magistrate, and usually didn't think much of the county officials' face.He has a market in the military town, and almost all the people nearby come to Chishan town for business.

The main duty of Chishan Town was to guard the safety of Chishanpu from attacks and looting by pirates and bandits. In addition, it also had the duty to collect customs duties on ships and goods in the port. However, when Wu Fu was in power in the late Tang Dynasty, this group of generals was domineering, and they almost became emperors of the land when stationed here, and even the county government had to look at their face. The southwestern part of Wendeng has almost become the territory directly under the jurisdiction of Chishan Military Town. Not only do ordinary people go to Chishan to buy and sell things, but even if there are disputes and lawsuits, they always go to Chishan Town instead of Wendeng County.

Li Jing went out, Han Shi was still leaning on the door and watching his back until he was gone, before returning to the courtyard.

At this time, the sun has just exposed half of his face, and the hoarfrost on the ground has not disappeared.Stepping on the frosty village road, beeping.

It was already late autumn, and the winter wheat planted in August had sprouted, and most of the men in the village had gone to the fields. The villagers in Liwang Village used to grow rice, millet, and sorghum soybeans, but in recent years, either drought or locust plagues, everyone can only grow winter wheat and soybeans which are relatively drought-resistant.Wheat is planted in August, and after the harvest in May of the following year, it happens to be able to plant another season of soybeans, millet or sorghum.

Although the round-neck robe Li Jing was wearing was interlayered, there was no cotton stuffing at this time, and the family couldn't afford a leather robe. When the cold morning breeze blew, his whole body felt cool.

Bai Qi, who was hustling all the way, walked for almost an hour before Li Jing reached Chishan Town at the foot of the northern side of Chishan.

It was still early in the morning, and the gate of the Weng City in the east had not yet been opened, and hundreds of people had gathered in front of the gate. Some of these people led donkeys and mules, and some drove carts. Most of them are carrying things on their shoulders, most of them come to the town to buy and sell. There are charcoal, firewood, fish, meat, sheep, and pigs. However, most of the people are yellow and thin, pale and thin.Although the clothes on his body were fairly neat, they were all patch upon patch.

Seeing these common people stomping their feet in the cold wind, Li Jing also let out a long sigh in his heart.Although the people's life is hard right now, they can finally survive. When Wang Xianzhi and Huang Chao turn against each other next year, everyone will have no way out.Although Wang Xianzhi and Huang Chao's bandit soldiers did not come to Dengzhou in the impression, they also killed the prefectures and counties under the jurisdiction of Ziqing Pinlu.

There were natural disasters in the first place, but with the rioting soldiers, there will be even more bandits everywhere.

After waiting for a while, drums finally sounded in the town, and the gate of Dongyang City creaked open.As the drawbridge was lowered, people began to line up to enter the city.

"It costs two coins to enter the city!" A guard with a horizontal knife said to Li Jing with his hands in his arms and his eyes half-closed.

But Li Jing also understands this, he also saw just now that everyone who enters the city, no matter driving a car or empty-handed, pays two pennies. With the current price of two hundred Wen for a bucket of rice, the two Wen for entering the city is not expensive. Li Jing took out the string of money he was carrying, took two Kaiyuan Tongbao and put them in the bamboo basket in front of the sergeant.

After entering the Wengcheng Gate, instead of going straight, you walked around the city wall for about a hundred steps to the left before reaching the east gate of Chishan Town. This approach is naturally to enhance the defense of the military town.Even if the Wengcheng Gate is lost during the war, the enemy cannot rush to the inner city gate immediately, but has to walk around the city wall for a long time, which gives the defenders time to organize a defensive counterattack.

Entering the city gate again, this time there is no charge, but there are a few more soldiers guarding the city. Although every person who enters the city does not need to be searched, he is scrutinized from top to bottom. If it is an unfamiliar face, they will be pulled aside for questioning. However, Chishan Town has been at peace for a long time, and it is guarded by heavy soldiers, but no unscrupulous bandits, horse bandits and pirates dare to come to make a move, and everything has become a mere show.

After entering the city, follow the east gate to the main road between the east and west gates, and the west city is a specially designated market. However, this city is full of shops and stores, and most of them are engaged in wholesale and other bulk and valuable goods transactions.Ordinary nearby people go to the city to buy and sell things, but most of them set up stalls along this main street. To sell things on this street, you don't need to pay high rent, you only need to pay for the stalls.

Li Jing first went to the cloth store in West Market and sold the two bolts of cloth for 130 yuan. Then I went to the rice shop and spent 130 yuan and a bolt of silk, and finally exchanged for 170 catties of sorghum. This [-] catties is replaced by more than [-] catties in later generations. At this time, it was more than one stone. Li Jing packed two big bags of sorghum. He thought he didn't know how to get it back, but he didn't expect that he tried to pick it up, but he picked it up without much effort. Dali couldn't help feeling shocked.

Originally, Mrs. Han gave him a piece of silk and a bunch of money to buy some paper and ink books, but Li Jing didn't do that. The whole family can't afford to eat, so how can he buy books and pens and ink? It's the end of the late Tang Dynasty, so it's possible that he really can't pass the imperial examination.

Carrying more than one stone of grain, Li Jing didn't stop and walked back along the way he came from.On the way, I heard shouts from the street: "Brother Xiucai, brother Xiucai, you are also in town."

He didn't pay attention at first, and didn't think it was calling himself. But the man yelled a few words and saw that he didn't respond, and ran directly in front of him to block the way. He looked up and found that it was an acquaintance.

He was called Xiao Shitou, the second son of Blacksmith Wang who opened a blacksmith shop in the village, and he was about the same age as him.The last time Li Jing and his brother Li Yu helped Xiao Shitou and his brother Da Shitou to go to the beach to pick up seaweed.

Xiucai is what many people in the village call Li Jing, because Li Jing has been studying before and is quite talented, so the villagers respect him very much.People in the village only knew that the scholar was the most difficult in the imperial examination, so they thought that the scholar was the most capable. So everyone calls him Xiucai, but they don't know that the Xiucai Department has been canceled for many years.Nowadays, Jinshi and Mingjing are the main subjects, and among them, Jinshi is the most valuable.

"Little Shitou, I'm going to the city to exchange some sorghum, and I'm going back to the village." Li Jing stopped walking.

"Brother Xiucai, can you help me bring something back to the village for my mother?" Xiao Shitou was a little cautious in his words to Li Jing, because Li Jing had once obtained the status of village tribute, so he was considered a real poet in the village .Secondly, the last time the Li Jing brothers had an accident, it was all because of the Wang family's affairs.

"Okay, just tell me what you want to take along with me." Blacksmith Wang was blacksmithing in the city, and he rarely returned home once in ten and a half months, and now Xiao Shitou was also blacksmithing with his father in the city.

"Brother, wait for me for a while, I'll go and get it right away." Little Shitou ran away without a trace, and came back panting after a while. He was holding a small bag in his hand, but it contained some sorghum, about twenty or thirty catties. In addition, he also carried two large strings of fish strung on willow branches, each with six or seven fish, and both strings weighed about ten catties.

"Brother Xiucai, this bag of sorghum is food for the family. These two strings of fish are for my family and brother's family. I fished them in the moat. Brother takes them back to eat." Xiao Shitou said cautiously.

Seeing his cautious look, Li Jing felt complicated, although the last time they had an accident, they could only blame those salty and unfair fate. But obviously, the Xiaoshitou family took this matter as their fault, kept it in their hearts, and always felt that they owed the Li family.Ten catties of fish may be nothing, but it is a very simple heart. He didn't say anything, and smiled at Xiao Shitou to pick up the burden.

Still go back the same way, pass the east gate, and arrive at the gate of Dongweng City.Everything went well when entering the city, but there was trouble when leaving the city.

"Stop, these two strings of fish are very fat, I bought one string for money." A somewhat arrogant voice sounded from behind.

Li Jing turned his head and met that person's eyes.

"It's you!" the man said in surprise.

Li Jing also saw the person coming, and said coldly: "Not for sale!"
