Chapter 72 Accepting a disciple and loving everyone

Chapter 72 Accepting a disciple and loving everyone

On the second day, there was an open space under a locust tree in the south of the city. This open space was a place where people in the south of the city gathered to talk. Most of them were elderly people, and most of them were old women.

Mo Zhai was still walking on the road to the south of the city wearing brown clothes and straw sandals, but this time he was carrying a wooden board and a basket of charcoal in a bamboo basket.

"Hello, Mr. Mo!" "Hello!" "Hello, Mr. Mo!" "Hello everyone!"

Along the way, many people saw Mo Zhai and were very happy to greet him. There were old people and children, but mostly young people.

"Mr. Mo is here! Everyone, go and listen to the class under the locust tree." Some people reminded other workers while running.

Mo Zhai arrived under the locust tree, hung the wooden board on the branches of the locust tree, and carefully arranged his teaching aids. "Mr. Mo is here again," an old man said with a smile.

Mo Zhai looked at the old man and replied: "Yes! As long as it's not raining, I will come. By the way, father-in-law, are the carpentry skills I taught you last time useful?"

After hearing this, the old man said: "It's useful, but it's useless. Fortunately, I have you, otherwise I wouldn't know how to deal with my employer!" Mo Zhai saw that more and more people were coming, so he confessed to the old man and started lecture.

Mo Zhai talked about some skills in carpentry and other types of work, as well as some arithmetic, which can help them complete their work better and faster. When Mo Zhai finished speaking, someone raised their hands and asked to speak.

Mo Zhai motioned for him to speak, and the man said: "Sir, why have you been talking about these market tricks these days? I want to hear your words of truth. I have benefited a lot from your sparing words. !”

Mo Zhai saw this man wearing a top hat, a wat on his waist, and the clothes of a Confucian scholar, so he said, "I would like to ask everyone, have you used the skills I mentioned in your life or work?"

People from common people all said, "Yes! Recently, more and more people have come to me to work, and my family situation has also improved. Otherwise, how would I have time to listen to my husband's lectures!"

"Yes, yes!"

Seeing this, Mo Zhai smiled and said to the Confucian scholar: "My words are somewhat different from those of Confucius. I am for the common people first, and then for the world. So I will first let everyone have food and clothing, so that everyone has the energy and time to listen to me. Talk about those great avenues of the world!"

Hearing what Mo Zhai said, many people understood why Mo Zhai only talked about survival methods and not the principles of the world.

Mo Zhai said to the Confucian scholar again: "I used to study Confucianism, but I found that studying Confucianism could not increase the income of farmers, increase the wealth of businessmen, or make the country rich. I felt confused for a time, and then my master told me that empty talk is wrong. The country must work hard to rejuvenate the country.

I heard that when Ye Gongzi Gao asked Confucius for inspiration on governance, he said: "What should a person who is good at governance do?" Confucius replied: "Those who are good at governance should be close to those who are far away, treat old friends as if they were new friends, and never abandon them." '

I think that in this dialogue, Ye Gongzi Gao failed to get the answers he needed, and Confucius could not answer correctly. Doesn't Mr. Ye know that those who are good at governance should be close to those who are far away, treat old friends as if they were new friends, and never abandon them?

I thought he knew, so he asked how to do it. Confucius did not tell others what they did not understand, but what they already knew. is it right?

Just like these Confucian scholars today, they only know how to criticize the world's injustice all day long, let the king use them, and say that they must respect etiquette and love others. But it does not say what to do specifically, how to make the country prosperous and powerful, and let the people have food and clothing without worries? These are things they don’t often talk about.

And I think you need to not only talk about general principles, but also do specific things. If you can take off your gorgeous Confucian robe, don't care about small gifts and status, and integrate into these ordinary people, I think you can If you are qualified, you can listen to what I say. "

After hearing this, the Confucian scholar bowed respectfully, and then said: "Sir, can you tell who can and cannot listen to your lectures just by looking at his clothes? Then, if a gentleman wears certain clothes, then there are What about doing certain things? Or having done certain things and then wearing certain clothes?”

Mo Zhai said: "Achievement does not lie in clothes. I asked you to take off your Confucian robe because I am not a Confucian. My thoughts are based on the common people. If you want to listen to my teachings, then you must be a person with the common people at heart." Secondly, Confucian robes are elegant in appearance but not suitable for working, which is inconsistent with my opinion.

If you just want to listen to my teachings and then use them to refute me, then what you wear has nothing to do with me. If you agree with my teachings and want to be my disciple, then you have to give up Confucianism. The door mark, replace it with my mark. "

The Confucian scholar said: "I agree with your point of view, but I still want to know why you know the relationship between clothing and behavior?"

Mo Di knew that this was a test for him, so he said:
"In the past, Duke Huan of Qi wore a high hat, a big belt, a golden sword and a wooden shield to govern the country, and the country's politics were governed; in the past, Duke Wen of Jin wore coarse cloth, a sheepskin coat, and a sword to govern the country. The country's politics have been governed; in the past King Zhuang of Chu wore a bright crown, a ribbon, and a red robe to govern his country, and the country was governed.

These three kings wore different clothes, but their actions were the same. I thus know that the work is not in the clothes. The Confucian scholar said sincerely: "That's so well said!" I have heard someone say: 'He who stops good things is unlucky. 'Let me throw away the wat, change the hat, come to you again and become your disciple, okay? "

Mo Zhai said: "If you can understand and agree with my principles, then you are my comrade. I hope to see you like this. If you must discard the wat, change the hat, and then meet again, then you will have achieved something real." It's all about clothing.

And the reason why I asked you to change clothes before was just to let you know the difference between me and the Confucian scholar. Now that you agree with my concept, you don’t need to care about the difference in clothing. "

The Confucian scholar saluted Mo Zhai and said, "Disciple Qin Huali pays homage to Master."

Mo Zhai asked Qin Huali to stand up and said: "Disciples under my sect don't have to be stuck in formal etiquette, and you don't have to call me Master, just call me Sir. I'm just one step ahead of you academically."

At this time, someone stood up and asked Mo Zhai: "Sir, I am just a commoner. I also want peace in the world and health for the people. Can I become your disciple?"

Mo Zhai said: "I have noticed that you have been coming to my classes every day for the past few days, and you have not missed a day. This proves that you understand the importance of knowledge and that you are a thoughtful person. But I don't know your character, so please Let me observe you for a few days, and when I think you meet my requirements, I will accept you as a disciple, and the same goes for everyone else."

Everyone attending the lecture knew that this was the moment to change their destiny, so they all decided to perform well in the hope of becoming Mo Zhai's disciples.

Three hundred and eighteen years of the Bai Kingdom

Mo Zhai has been lecturing in the south of the city for two years. In the past two years, Mo Zhai has accepted dozens of disciples, taught them various skills, and also told them his understanding of the world. In order to practice Mo Zhai's ideas, Mo Zhai His disciples all imitated Mo Zhai's dressing style, wearing brown clothes and straw sandals, not riding in cars when traveling, and standing up for injustice when they see it.

Following the example of Mo Zhai and his disciples, many people in brown clothes and straw sandals appeared in the south of Shangqiu City. They gathered in various walks of life during the day and gathered together at night to listen to Mo Zhai's sermons.

“Confucianism talks about kinship, that is, kindness to father and brother, filial piety to children, respecting elders and friends, younger brothers and sisters, etc. But I think that if we want to achieve universal unity, we should extend this approach to other strangers.

If everyone in the world could love each other and love others as much as you love yourself, would there be anyone who is unfilial? How could he do something unfilial when he treats his father, brother, and emperor like himself? Is there anyone who is not kind? If you treat your son, younger brother, and ministers as you treat yourself, how can you do something unloving? There is no such thing as unkindness.

Are there any robbers or thieves? If you treat other people’s homes as your own, who would steal? If you treat others just like yourself, who would harm others? So there are no more robbers and thieves.

Are there still cases where the great officials harm each other and the princes attack each other? If you treat other people’s families as your own, who would harm them? If you treat other people's countries as your own, who would attack them? Therefore, the great officials invaded each other's families, and the princes attacked each other's feudal states, and there was no such thing.

If all people in the world love each other, countries will no longer attack each other, families will no longer infringe on each other, there will be no more robbers and thieves, and kings, ministers, fathers and sons will all be filial and loving, then the world will be well governed. .

Therefore, since the sage is a person whose job is to govern the world, how can he not prohibit hatred but also encourage love? Because the world can be governed by loving each other, but by hating each other, it can be chaotic. Therefore, I say that as my disciples, we must advise others to love each other. This is universal love. "

At this time, a disciple said: "Sir, it may be difficult for me to love everyone. I am from the Lu country, so I love the people of Zou more than the people of Yue. I love the people of Lu more than the people of Zou, and I love the people of my hometown more than the people of Lu." Deeply, I love my family more than the people in my hometown, I love my parents more than my family, and I love myself more than my parents. This is because they are close to me.

If you hit me, I will feel pain, but if you hit someone else, it will not hurt me. Why don’t I relieve my own pain, but relieve the pain of others who have nothing to do with me? So I will only kill others to benefit me, but not myself to benefit others. Am I right to think this way? "

Mo Zhai asked: "Will you hide this idea of yours? Or will you tell others."

The disciple replied: "Why should I hide my thoughts? I will tell others."

Mo Zhai said: "In this case, if there is one person who likes your idea, this person will kill you to benefit himself; there are ten people who like your idea, and these ten people will kill you to benefit themselves; the world Everyone likes your ideas, and everyone in the world will kill you to benefit themselves.

If there is one person who doesn't like your ideas, this person will kill you because he thinks you are spreading ominous words; if there are ten people who don't like your ideas, these ten people will kill you because they think you are spreading ominous words. You are a person who spreads ominous words; everyone in the world does not like your ideas, and everyone in the world will kill you because they also think you are a person who spreads ominous words.

In this case, people who like your ideas will kill you, and people who don't like your ideas will also kill you. This is the inspiration that people say is often fatal to oneself if one talks too much. "

Finally, Mo Zhai concluded: "What you said is precisely because you hate profit. If you still say it without benefit, it is empty talk."
